  1. Eric - how did you do it? Did you change the color style before sending as CAD detail from view? I am at a loss. Thanks, Kevin
  2. Well, that didn't work. I get the same thing. Is there an optimization function like "overkill" in AutoCAD that removes excessive or overlapping segments?
  3. Thanks again Mark. This was generated using a CAD detail from view. Are proposing that I generate another CAD detail after exploding the 2D block? I'll give that a try and report back.
  4. Mark - these segments were generated from a CAD block (GE Range). So when exploded, they were on the fixture layer. I tried to change the fixture layer's color and they remain black. I moved all segments to CAD, Default layer and they remain black. Not sure why... The only way I am able to change the color is to open them (all at once or independently) and change within the DBX.
  5. Mark - thanks for the reply. That is exactly what I'm doing. I change the layer to 50% gray on which all the segments lie. I then select all of the segments and open all objects at once. I tick the color by layer check box under the line style tab and the result is a jumbled mess with my fills lost. Not sure if the fill is lost or the line drawing groups are the problem (which shouldn't matter if they're all on the same one). This is typical behavior with any blocked object. I don't understand why I am losing the fill just because I change the line color. I thought someone here might have a work around. Kevin
  6. I've got a CAD block of a range that I've exploded. So far so good, as the fill is retained. However, when I change the line color to something to more like 50% gray, I lose the fill and have a mess of lines to clean up. Is there a way to do this without all the extra work of cleaning lines? Thanks, Kevin
  7. I am setting up a custom layout for one of our suppliers. They require that all single digit pages be numbered with a leading zero (01,02,03,04,05,06,07,08,09.....10). I can type the zero in before the page numbering macro and all is fine until I reach page 10 and I get 010 which breaks the format. Is there a way to do this? Thanks, Kevin
  8. I figured it out. I was pulling on the wrong diamond.
  9. I'm drawing some hood details and trying to offset an arc by 3/8" in one direction and 5/8" in the other. The concentric setting doesn't seem to be affecting arcs in that it ignores the jump number. What am I missing? Thanks, Kevin
  10. Chop - does that mean I have to import this new symbol from the app it was created in? I tried to select the existing symbol AND the circular CAD line, but I no longer have the option to convert to a symbol. How is this done in CA or is it necessary to import again with the circle as part of the geometry?
  11. I've been importing some symbols today for my user catalog. I've got a 3-bladed ceiling fan where the origin isn't geometrically centered. I thought by moving the model (in the symbol DBX) so that the Y-axis was centered on the motor, this would put the plan origin in the correct place. Not the case. How do I go about this? Thanks, Kevin
  12. Thank you Michael. I didn't realize the drain center was in the correct location after resizing when viewed in 3D - it was just the 2D symbol that wasn't updating. I appreciate the video. Kevin
  13. Thanks Michael. I've tried this and the symbol will not re-center when I adjust the depth, so the symbol is not accurate. Attached is the symbol if helpful... shower pan resize.calibz
  14. Thanks Michael. Converting to Symbol is how I created the object to begin with (used a Chief library symbol). Are you suggesting to try it again after resizing? Kevin
  15. Thanks Rob. I am just going to draw it with CAD lines as I only need a plan view for now. I'm not sure why it isn't working...
  16. I'm trying to create a shower pan symbol that I can change in width and depth and still have the drain center (without distortion). The first image shows how I have the symbol setup using stretch planes. When I resize, the width works just fine, however, changing the depth, keeps the drain the same distance from the back. I want the drain to stay towards the middle. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
  17. Thanks Chop. I was hoping there was a way to do that. I've got to say, I'm really loving this software!
  18. I want to create a custom table on the layout page with such items as cabinet finish, wood species, construction type, etc. I found this in the knowledge database "https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00042/creating-a-text-based-table-or-legend.html", but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I was hoping to be able to format it more like the Layout tables that have a centered title bar. Is there any way to customize a layout table or schedule so that I can input my own columns without having to build my own grid lines?
  19. Thanks Michael. That's a great tip. Kevin
  20. That's what I was missing. So, if you trim everything outside the border, sending to layout will size the layout box to the contents of the CAD Detail. Thanks for your help and your patience! Kevin
  21. The first attachment shows CAD DETAIL 01 (COUNTER DETAIL 01). The second attachment shows CAD DETAIL 02 (COUNTER DETAIL 02). CAD DETAIL 02 was created by duplicating CAD DETAIL 01 and making some minor changes. The red rectangles are the guide borders which have the details geometrically centered inside. I still have to send each CAD detail out separately to layout. When they get to layout, I have to resize the layout boxes to line up with the guide border I created in the each CAD DETAIL page. You asked above "why would you resize the layout box (if it's based on a border)". I don't see any other way when the drawings are coming from two different CAD details. I must be missing something...
  22. Maybe I don't understand what you're defining as a border. I thought you meant to draw a rectangular polyline around the area in the CAD detail view to act as a guide for resizing the layout box borders in layout. I am using the "Send to Layout" button in the top left menu. There is no option in this DBX to define a "border". I can send the current screen, but that does not accurately send only the contents of the area I want to send. What am I missing?
