  1. There's got to be a way to do this. For example, I am redesigning a bathroom for a client. When I measure the existing space, I am measuring from inside the room - drywall to drywall. I have yet to figure out a way to enter dimensions in this way. I would appreciate any help with this.
  2. Thanks Robert. That doesn't change anything though. What default is it I need to setup in the first place? I am assuming the dims shown are Temporary Dimensions. Correct?
  3. I'm laying out an interior space and want to input dimensions using the tab key. I have setup all my default dimensions to recognize wall surfaces, yet when I draw, they always resort to exterior dimensions. Please see attached for what I want to achieve. I have tried drawing the walls clockwise and counterclockwise with not success. What am I missing here? Thanks.
  4. Joe - thank you very much. Today was my first attempt at dimensioning CAD details. Wish I had asked earlier as I wasted much time.
  5. I swear I spend most of my time in CA trying to get witness lines to snap to where I want them. In this instance, I am trying to move this dimension to the corner designated by the arrow. Would someone please give me some tips on getting this witness line moved to the correct point? Does it have something to do with the grid snap spacing? I have tried drawing additional lines over the existing to establish an end point and have had some success with other dimensions, but not this one for some reason. The file is attached and the CAD detail is named "Cabinetry". I would greatly appreciate your help. Thanks, Kevin Coutros_09-19-19_STRIPPED.plan
  6. Thanks all for the suggestions.
  7. Is it possible to override a dimension with text? I see where you can add to the suffix or prefix, but I don't want any numbers and I'd prefer not to draw the dimension lines and architectural ticks manually. Thanks.
  8. rlackore - you're right. It is tedious. I'm sticking with the dashed line. Does CA have an overkill tool like AutoCAD to remove overlapping segments in a CAD detail view?
  9. Thanks Renee. That will work for future situations, but I need a single break for now.
  10. I've looked on the internet and forum and can't find an answer to this. Does CA have a breakline symbol that generates automatically like it does for stairs or do I have to do it manually? I used this all the time in AutoCAD, but can't find an equivalent in CA. Thanks.
  11. I wouldn't recommend the free version of SketchUp. It's web-based and they have stripped all the cool tools from it. Try to get a hold of SketchUp Make - this was the free version previously and much more robust. That said, SketchUp is only $300 per year, but I understand you not wanting to invest in more software. I've got quite the (expensive) collection myself!
  12. Rene - really great looking work. I'm also curious what software you used for rendering.
  13. I'd try again when you have the time. I think you'll be impressed with the quality of the rendering.
  14. Think you have to create an account first and then download the Epic Games installer. It's really quite easy to use and gives good results without much effort. I learned enough of the program to create my first render over the span of one weekend. Exporting from CA using .dae brings everything in nicely. You can even add animated people and cars to your renders/walk-thrus.
  15. Have you looked into TwinMotion? It's free if you subscribe/download before November. I played around with it this weekend and it's really fast. https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/twinmotion?utm_source=GoogleSearch&utm_medium=Performance&utm_campaign=an*Internal_pr*TwinMotion_ct*Search_pl*Brand_co*US_cr*exact&utm_id=1626284359&utm_content=&utm_term=twinmotion&gclid=CjwKCAjw5fzrBRASEiwAD2OSV1qb6tWQEfrleEGnnFLQjj0NDeDRh3v01mSZtlRfFmm3u6ilCTF83hoCVmwQAvD_BwE
  16. So, it treats them independently and I can therefore, list them separately in a material list and manipulate them individually?
  17. I can't image there'd be any more hit to the performance than the manual method you describe.
  18. Can someone tell me what the difference is here? Are there pros/cons to each? I am creating a light rail molding that will require a face profile and a return allowing the installer to attach to the bottom of wall cabinets (2 piece molding). It appears I can add to Library either way, but in this instance which is the preferred method? Technically it is a stacked molding. Thanks!
  19. That's inconvenient. Mark - when you make the axis change, does CA calculate that in object space in relation to the door panel or is it a world coordinate setting? I ask as I won't bother if I have to have different symbols for each leg (run) of my kitchen.
  20. Thanks Mark. I didn't realize you could even specify hardware from the face config. That's handy. I'm running into another problem where the hardware is not resting on the recessed panel inside the drawer. Any workarounds for this?
  21. I searched the forum and was unable to come up with a solution for this. The hardware on a full height cabinet is not behaving correctly. I have two doors, one over the other using the CA Core tubular pulls. I am using a 3.5" offset from the edge of the door. The top door places as expected, however, I am unable to get the bottom door's pull to locate that same 3.5" from the top edge of the door. The door/drawer fronts are ones that I created myself if that makes any difference.
  22. Clever. I think I'm getting the hang of it. Thanks again! Kevin
