  1. That was my first check Perry. I even compared it to a detached multi-bay I did in March in X-7, and it's the same settings. Anyway, not going to ponder this any longer. I've just created a new template in X8 specifically for garages. This should resolve the issue.
  2. OK, I forgot to "Attach this file" yesterday. Same problem applies....
  3. Darn, I thought I had David....and it's back at the office. I'll get at it tomorrow morning...
  4. I've been asked by a client to design a garage for a house I did for him last year. He's run out of space for his toys and wants a garage with a carport attached. Easily enough done, but when I looked at the foundation around the semi-enclosed carport portion, the rim joist region isn't filling in. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, how do I fill this part of the structure in? I've tried a "Solid" in this area and it passes, but the exterior layer of the wall on the outside just goes to ground....
  5. Yes Michael exclusive rights. I know it's unusual, but it's been a good relationship. He pays me per use of each plan, on top of the original development costs. After five years, all rights revert back to me as the plan times out. At which time we resign a contract for another 5 years, or it goes into my files for use by myself at a later date. If a plan requires updating on siding, or walls adjusted during that five years, I have exclusive rights to the changes. If it means I can't post his plans, I'm OK with it.
  6. I can't do it. Contractor I draw for doesn't want his drawings posted anywhere. I'm not up for a lawsuit with only 4 months to retirement thanks!
  7. I work with this material a couple of times a year. I ended up using Stucco and then use poly solids as said by Michael. After I finish faking it in CA, I end up doing a lot of ACAD drawing work on the elevations & sections to make the CDs work properly. Would be nice if CA added this material to the wall systems.
  8. There is a book put out that is called Architectural Drafting and Design. The last three editions are current. It's sets the basics for drafting standards and explains layout. I used it for my students with great success. http://www.amazon.com/Architectural-Drafting-Design-Available-CourseMate/dp/1435481623 http://www.ebay.com/itm/architectural-drafting-and-design-text-book-Author-Alan-Jefferis-David-A-Mad-/281916665927
  9. So, no pw required Jere? I assumed there was....
  10. Purchased a new machine this week and am now ready to start uploading software. I have only used my old PC to design using Chief but now have a laptop with a 17" screen that I can design on as well. I've looked through the video library for a video on how to change between the two platforms but can't find anything. Anyone got a link, or can give me a quick run down on how to do this?
  11. Bummer, I just ordered new PCs built for the office based on the recommendations on the X8 page. Now I'm concerned about parts going into the machines that may not play well with CA. I sure hope I'm not paying for upgrades after all the time it took putting these together...
  12. Export to MS Excel and input it manually. If there is another way, I'd like to know about it myself.
  13. Hey Doug - Any systems requirement suggestions? I'm about to update the PC's in the office. May as well make sure everything works at 110%....on a beer budget...
  14. It means that if you have this many questions about your Support and Software Assurance, you'll be part of SSA for a long time to come. As others have said, read the site and get to know what the support offers. It's a good service just for the upgrades and catalog.
  15. Now that multi cutting plane is awesome.
  16. I'm with Scott. I'd go with a 3012 or 4016.
  17. Thank so much Humble Chief. That's the issue...although I had to adjust to -11 5/8" to get it to adjust to the right height....I normally don't worry about the issue, just stud it up and let the engineer deal with the height of the studs for a tall wall condition in an earthquake zone. Stem wall...another one of those cross-border names. We refer to them as foundations, and the top of such item as a fdn sill height. I knew the CA name for it but it didn't register...I'll admit openly it's time for a vacation. Sherry, you ever decide to retire out here, just let me know. I will introduce you to some realtors that know how to find quality land at good prices. Just don't forget your earthquake kit! Shane - Thank you, but HC got me on the right track. What an awesome resource to have. I hope one day to know enough that I can pay it forward.
  18. Mick, just the foundation sill heights the same in the garage as they are on the house. There must be a way to raise the sill heights so they are even. And I can't post the plan. The contractor I'm doing the work for doesn't want to see their plans elsewhere. He's paranoid, but he pays well.
  19. LOL - Ya, I know Sherry, but this is a simple question of setting two areas with different fdn sill heights into one height. What the house looks like is meaningless. BC Building Code - Yes, in a seismic area, Part 9 requires any wall over 3m (10'-0") to be handled by an engineer....
  20. Hey Folks: Normally I wouldn't be concerned about this but I'm doing a house where the top of foundation on the garage is 2 1/2" lower than the house. This is causing an issue because our building code only allows a maximum 10'-0" wall stud height without the house going to an engineer. So I'm trying to take the height of the stud wall from 10'-2 1/2" to 10'-0" by raising the foundation wall on the foundation equal to the sill height of the house. A helping hand figuring out how to adjust the foundation sill would be appreciated.
  21. I have a client that wants a walk-in-tub. They have a mother-in-law living with them who is 82 and can't navigate a regular tub. I know I've seen a walk-in-tub here somewhere but can't seem to find it in the library both online (SSA) and base content. Does anyone know if we have one hiding somewhere?
  22. I don't have as much a problem as others do but I also have a newish laptop with all the bells and whistles. As stated above, the library takes about 5 seconds to open up for selection, but I don't find the 5 seconds to be a reason to dump it for X6. I'm more concerned with as to why my video card will just stop functioning and require me to shutdown the software and restart. I have sent in the error reports and leave it up to the binary crowd to figure out the issue. I'm a residential designer, not a computer programmer, we pay them to look after these things and so far Doug has done a pretty good job at it. Next year I get another new laptop that will even be better than this one, and I'm already talking to a shop about finding me a PC that can handle this software with two monitors. So X8 and two new work platforms and life should be better...or the same, but it won't be worse. While I am sure the CA software has a few issues, its nothing compared to some of the issues I had with Revit and Architectural Desktop. I'll suck up the 5 second delay, which is exactly the same amount of time it takes to take a sip of coffee and adjust the music selection. Keep smiling guys and gals, it's not all bad.
  23. I had the same thing happen. I just saved file and closed out and restarted the program. Problem went away.
