  1. Time over at Design Build on Youtube made a video about this a few weeks ago. I hadn't thought about doing this way until he put it out there. I think it's a darn good idea. Kitchen and bath callouts are increasing. Great way to not clutter a plan.
  2. On Vancouver Island (Campbell River). Been using CA since X3, now on X13. Prior software's include AutoCAD, Revit and Rhino.
  3. I'm no computer geek. I need to upgrade my video card like most others here to run X13, & next years X-14. Priority is my PC because I use it for 95% of my design work. I've gone looking and came across a NVIDIA GF3060i. My issue is, I'm not sure if the remainder of my system might not need upgrading as well. I live on a small coastal town with one computer store, which is closed because of...well, you know what it is. So I'm needing some help. Existing PC Windows 10 Home 1.0 TB Hard drive Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz 3.30 GHz RAM: 16.0 GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GT-720 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor I'm most concerned with cooling, as in ensuring the rest of the system doesn't melt down because I upgraded the graphics card. Any of your computer minded folks see an issue?
  4. While disappointing to hear, my search continues. Thank you,Kbird1!
  5. Hey guys, I need a hand. I'm not a computer hardware geek and I need to replace my laptop. I'm looking at this model: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08H7VW34Y/?coliid=I1QJUTCZXTNAQK&colid=2AREYZXK4U9K2&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it and need to know if the graphics card will work for X-13.
  6. Thank you Joe, you nailed it. I'm not sure why this happens, but neither am a software / hardware guy.
  7. You can either print to PDF from Chief and send them to the ENG / Contractor. Or print the file layout. It either partially prints or the embedded PDF won't print at all..
  8. I have a HP 520T printer.. When I print from the CAD file, the PDF either doesn't completely print or doesn't print at all. I've even converted the CAD to a PDF file and tried printing from that and same thing occurs. Any ideas on what it is I'm doing wrong? Should i try Adobe PDF to convert? Truly stumped.
  9. It's been a real brain teaser. I know I've done it before, but I can't remember how to change the size of the text in the layout box on the sheet. The box title and scale text is huge and I'd like to downsize it to something less over sized. I don't have time to go through all 75 videos and hundreds of possible answers in the data base....
  10. Mick, wife just ordered four Toshiba Ext HD on Thursday. Should be here tomorrow morning. Prime here on the Island means it gets here in under a week....
  11. Solid advice Mick. I realised last night, well duh, I have X9 on my lap top , I'll just down load the information from it. I guess the answer was too obvious....
  12. Guess, that's my only avenue at this point Mark. Sounds like a tomorrow thing as the clock says it's "Beer O'Clock" here on Vancouver Island.
  13. Old system is a pile of smoking parts now. I guess I'm starting from scratch. Not the first time.
  14. Hey guys, I finally decided to do my update and started on my new PC with a fresh download of CA Premier X10. when it finished it was noted that none of my templates and bonus cats downloaded. Can some one tell me how to down load these manually? I've already tried the help - download - update way and got nothing. Any help would be appreciated.
  15. Video 1056 in the video library. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1056/import-a-surveyor-dwg-file-for-a-site-plan-or-terrain-perimeter.html I had to do a few of them to understand the importance of the steps they give.
  16. Thank you Gerry - Even limited ability is better than putting together tables each time I have to do energy calculations on build ups.
  17. Thanks Eric. I was poorly informed.
  18. It was my understanding that the spread could be imported as an intact file....or am I out to lunch on this?
  19. There was an article in the data base that explained how to import MS Excel into a plan . I have a table file I'd like to import so I dont' have to recreate a table/legend. How is this done in CA...the link to the CA article is broken ( https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00721/importing-an-excel-or-other-spreadsheet.html ). Anyone got a cheat sheet on how to do this...?
  20. LOL - Not too bad for being rusty. And it's Semi retirement now. Diane has me working on renovations for this house...I draw when I can: Working with two veteran's organization, and have a government contract doing 2D illustrations for the new building envelope guide for residential housing. I need something to occupy the time between sailing and building.
  21. Merci, madame Sherry. Votre aide est appréciée.
  22. I have an old plan that my brother really likes and wants to make some minor changes to and build for his retirement. Problem is I really don't want to go through all the trouble of doing another layout when there are so few changes. ? I've already save them as a new file name but they aren't linking. I've searched the data base and video library but found nothing. Anyone got a quick answer for me?
  23. There you go....now that was simple...Thanks Yoda....
  24. As part of our retirement, I'm designing our burial plot. Was speaking to the window supplier last night and he asked that I not bother with a window list, he'd rather I just sent the plan with the dimensions to centers and window sizes /T.O.Window heights right on the layout. Sounds easy enough, I removed the R.O. dimensions and placed in the center dimensions using auto dimension. Then I realized I had never removed a schedule and callout markers before. I went looking and can't find a way to return the window door sizes and get rid of the call outs. I'm sure it's something easy. Someone got some easy instructions?
