  1. I'm designing a two story home with one half the house being a single story with a mono roof system. The main kitchen area and sitting room is to have a vaulted cieling. When I vaulted it I had the exterior wall cladding from the two storie portion of the house drop into the interior space wall. See attached. How do I get rid of the exterior cladding on the interior space? I've not run into this issue before.
  2. I've got a complaints about the hatching on a foundation & insulation I drew. Contractor is use to my drawings in ACAD. He's asked me to go back and redo the hatching to industry standards. Is there any way of importing ACAD Hatching .pat files into CA, and if so, is it easy to do? I've never imported a .pat file before. Idiot proof directions are much appreciated!
  3. So I'm taking the leap and today had my assistant order up an ipad and the i7100. I'll let all know how it works out for me.
  4. I've got a friend who's got more money than brains. (Just sold his successful aviation company). They've asked me to do something I rarely do...renovation project. Their current home is a small 8,000 sq ft and they want to add another 4,000+-200 sq ft for a home office and shooting range/gunsmithing room. And while I'm at it, they want some other small changes in the Mastersuite and greatroom...ya, the house is tight....So to make life easier on me, I'm thinking about purchasing a Android tablet and the i7100 lieca for doing the site/structure measure and layout. Anyone worked with this set up and the Room planner software...is it worth the money and time investment?
  5. Thanks Perry....This has been driving me nuts all morning.
  6. I ventured into using a backdrop from the library as an experiment. Turns out I'm not a fan of using what's in the library and want to just get rid of the backdrop all together. Anyone know how to turn it off? When ever I pull up a Vector View the backdrop appears...
  7. I'd go with Forte and let the software do the proper calculations for you. http://www.woodbywy.com/software/forte-software/ Software is free, and has printable pdfs. If the data confuses you, hire an engineer.
  8. Sign me up coach....anything to get my head wrapped around this software. I'll make it work either way....Do we send you an email Scott...and if so, can you post it?
  9. Joe, it's just an Excel spread sheet we put together with all the components having drop downs to change the data, such as the size of studs, stud spacing, and type of insulation w/ it's effective ratings. So with 9 items int the table, each of those would have a drop down to change the information like you would the walls and insulation. I've attached a jpg for your viewing pleasure. This is just one wall. Each type of exterior wall must have one of these made up with a section showing the component structure. In a drawing I'm doing right now, I have 6 different exterior wall types. I guess I'll go back to Excel and work with the print to PDF and drop them in the drawing. but I would hope at some point CA see's the benefits of having tables in their software, that has drop down boxes...or even adapt Excel to work with the software as ACAD has. Everyone loves this feature. With drawings requiring more data tables, having to not do the software dance would sure be nice. I purchased CA so I could get away from that.
  10. I was hoping for the ability to use columns & tables like we do in ACAD. Instead, I'll simply do it all in EXCEL, save as a PDF, and dump into the drawing.... until I can find another way around this. Well it's frustrating, it isn't the end of the world. It's all about the good and the bad.
  11. In ACAD, user has the ability to select a column block with built in drop down menus that acts like MS Excel for data loading. Since I'm moving away from using ACAD for residential drawings (no longer exporting CA to ACAD and using my blocks in that program that I've made over the last 20 + years and creating sheets there), I want to create columns with drop down data boxes for changing out information from drawing to drawing....am I making sense here? Can CA do this?
  12. I think the thanks should go to the entire crew here as we teach each other. I only knew the answer because Scott answered it for me last Oct.ish.
  13. Default > Floor> Floor Structure Edit (L)> Layer 2> 11.25"> Structure Type: Lumber> OK.
  14. Well, I tried that before and it didn't work. I ended up with all my interior 2x4 walls changing the fill/hatching. With that said, I just did it again and it worked fine....Gremlins.....
  15. I've noted that when you use a half wall, the wall hatching/fill is linked to a full 2x4 wall. Is there a way to separate the link so that a Half wall is seen with a different hatching/fill on the plan?
  16. I've been fighting terrain set up like crazy....that is until I saw this video Larry. I had never seen this method used and it looks so simply...I'll be having a go at this tomorrow in the office...Thanks for doing the video!!!

    PC System

    I agree with David.
  18. If we learned anything yesterday, it's that Friday afternoon's leaves us all a little silly....and obviously fatigued after a 60 hour work week....
  19. I guess the big questions is, will everyone have to call themselves D.Scott Hall, or is Glen going to use his own name?
  20. I'm with Mr. Potter, I use the Logitech 325 on my laptop, and G602 on my PC.
  21. So, they restarted the meeting and I went back in. Learned a few things. I think this informal approach works well IMHO. I think we should do these more often. I think CA should have some join in just to hear our complaints and see what needs to be adjusted to work better.
  22. When we broke up the meeting I figured that was it....so are we doing this again or do I look for cliff notes?
  23. Running on both a PC and laptop. Totally happy with the performance. I came over from XP....was really uneasy about the move but glad I did.
  24. How timely was that! I was just hunting for one. Thanks Perry!
