In this file I have one detail. This was copied over from a file where I keep pages of details. If I try to group select this detail and copy/paste, the text jumps to a new location far, far away. If I block it together and then copy /paste and then unblock, all is well in the universe. Any ideas on why this is happening? X16 files. This is happening when copying to a new file or within this file. The detail was created in older versions and has been modified many times across several versions. detail test.plan

claddings Wall layers lapping over each other
Gawdzira replied to NZ-DESIGNER's topic in General Q & A
For finer control, I would break the walls as you have done but keep the layers thickness the same for each wall (if you need the wall lengths to report to a schedule by name). Then add the brick on the "brick" wall with a wall material region. Breaking walls at a window or door is always going to create issues in Chief if you want fine control. -
Although you can probably get the the CA model to do this (maybe by changing the size of the blocking), this is best presented to a contractor and building department in a wall/eave section detail. In other news, the prevalence of roof overhangs through history was developed for very good reason. The depth of the overhang has a direct relationship to the longevity of the wall.

Thanks, that did the trick. I deleted all the printers that were not the main critical ones that I recognized and I am back to high speed.

This may be more of a systems issue but I also see it when just trying to access my sheet print settings. I hit the print DBX and it hangs for over 30 seconds. I know that in the evolutionary scheme of things, 30 seconds is not that long but it is a real work flow killer. It also happens when I open a pdf and hit the print function so this could be the system. My desktop where this happens is Device name MainDesktop Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-10900KF CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.9 GB usable) Device ID F417C97A-5706-4966-AF83-0AB1E5C44988 Product ID 00330-80000-00000-AA142 System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display Windows 11 pro version 24H OS Build 26100.4202 Anyone with a similar experience? This does not occur with the same CA files on my laptop.

You will save your sanity by paying either Chief or one of the others who advertise on this forum for 2 or 3 hours of individualized training. Possibly only one hour to get you up and running on the critical path for your CAD detail drafting. I am not sure what type of object your "slab" is in that image. If you are drawing 2d details, that object would want to be a polyline with fill.

I recently had a contractor put a 5' door where the plans had called out 6068. I asked him if the door was 5'8 high also? Honestly, it is a lack of construction education in the U.S..
-
By the term "template" do you mean "legend", as in, this is a chart of different graphic symbols? Those are all just polylines with different fill patterns.

I am not sure how it works on the MAC but you should be able to use x17 and then close it out and jump back on to x16.
-
See if this is what you are after. I did this quickly to spit out a tabulated list for some site area calculations. I did not refine this and you could easily lose the labels and use the names of the individual areas (renaming the headings). I did not try to copy these polylines into a new plan yet but I suspect they would retain the schedule association. RIC As Built V1p.zip

There is a webinar on introducing X17 on May 1. Based on that, they are likely to release the full version either that day or close to it one direction or the other

A birds eye view tend to work better with the orthographic full overview. I try to position them at about 30 deg for a true isometric.

Have you explored making this one mass rather than 3 dormers?

This looks like a really dangerous stair layout. I would not do this. Also, these three risers likely kick in the need for a handrail. Will you have handrail on each opposite side? My suggestion is to design away from this configuration.

Fire rated wall vs non-combustible covering
Gawdzira replied to flightcrazed's topic in Building Codes and Compliance
In WUI areas I have not been asked for a one hour wall assembly unless the fire code demanded it for buildings inside of 10' separation. It seems like the exterior siding material having a WUI approval should be sufficient. I am very quick to shoot these questions to the AHJ. 3 things happen when I ask a question of the AHJ (building official) 1. I get the answer that covers my butt (and it almost always the correct answer) 2. I endear myself to the building official through being respectful of their authority and knowledge 3. I generally learn the thing and maybe some more via the answer -
I would download that symbol, but I may run for public office one day and don't want to have to explain that in my browser history.

Reversing "Zoom" direction on the mouse scroll wheel?
Gawdzira replied to Chrisb222's topic in General Q & A
Can the Aussies chime in on this? Which direction does it scroll down there?
