  1. You can see the entire list of new X8 features on our website now at chiefarchitect.com/whats-new/
  2. Spell Check works fine in my environment with CAPS. I would not necessarily use the trackpad 100% in designing personally. I have a magic mouse and usually have external monitors for projects I spend more than 30 minutes on.
  3. I have both a Macbook Pro 15" and PC laptop. Hands down the mac laptop is the best - mainly due to the track pad. I doc with both thunderbolt displays ($$) and run of the mill displays (more affordable). Both work great. I swap files between the Mac/PC all the time. If I used the laptop much w/o external displays I would go with the Mac (but they are about 2x more $). However, since I run with external monitors most of the time I use the PC (comfort factor).
  4. It looks like your Lat/Long might be off for Boston. I used these numbers in the Sun Angle line (in addition to the north pointer) @ 7pm and did not generate a shadow. Boston: 42º 35' N, 71º 05' W
  5. There is a remodeling video that shows using a mask and layers (for visual and the materials list). Skip to around 17:30 to see it. video.chiefarchitect.com/?autoplay=1957
  6. Fun2Learn, the reception is open to customers and those who are interested in Chief Architect. It would be a good chance to meet other Chief users from the area and learn more about Chief Architect Software. Washington D.C. When: November 17th, 5-8 PM Where: Agora Restaurant 1527 17th Street NW Washington, DC 20036 P: 202-332-6767 Solen Room Boston When: November 18th, 5-8 PM Where: Stockyard Restaurant 135 Market Street Boston, MA 02135 P: 617-782-4700 Tavern Room
  7. Alan, these are solved in X8 now (due out in Q1) "word wrap.... and, more shape options."
  8. Greg, X8 is due out in Q1. The feature list, which is significant for the new release, should be out in a few weeks.
  9. Here are two photos I recently took on Hayden Lake in N. Idaho
  10. I think you can configure some of the Disto devices to round up. If you are having an issue with ceiling height, please reach out to support – it worked fine for us, but, we would like to track that down.
  11. I have a Lenovo similar to yours with an NVIDIA card; I went into the NVIDIA control panel and added Chief Architect as a program to default to the NVIDIA card. The laptop does not always switch as you might think it would, so telling it to use a specific card may solve your problem. If not, please contact our support group.
  12. Here's a video from Stephen Gross of Valley Home Improvement:
  13. When I use automatic dimensions for elevations, I have a dimension default set (usually through an annotation set); the dimension default is defined to only locate a few items, and has the font size, and arrow size defined - otherwise, you will get a lot of dimensions that are difficult to read. I typically use the interior elevation with the "NKBA general annotation" and you can see how it works with the auto NKBA dimension; if the annotation set is "1/4 Scale" it looks very messy. See my two examples. The difference was the annotation set with the correct defaults define. I don't do a lot of exterior dimensions; hence my interior example.
  14. For that type of cabinet, I would use partitions and a polyline solid, shaped, as slab door. You can create custom doors – here’s a video: video.chiefarchitect.com/?autoplay=10046
  15. Cheryl, a sharing feature would certainly be helpful and it's on our list of things to consider in near future
  16. Jon, we have been forecasting the Android version at the end of June.
  17. We are aware of the feature request to set hardware by face item. The solution for your situation, as Graham suggested, is to mark NO hardware in the DBX; then, place the hardware as a stand-alone item from the Library.
  18. Jon, we will have a wall thickness setting in the next release of Room Planner.
  19. Tony, can you post your file? Framing members, like trusses, require the roof and/or ceiling platform, otherwise they cannot be placed or can disappear if the ceiling or roof change
  20. Here's one idea: 1. in the attic, Draw a wall and mark it as an 'Attic Wall' 2. place a doorway in the attic wall; use a broken arch option to match the curve of the ceiling Another option would be to draw a custom shape using a polyline solid in an elevation view
  21. Use the polyline solid tool; watch this video segment - it starts around 0:51 into the video. http://video.chiefarchitect.com/?playlist=50 - video # 10103
  22. Larry: I did an auto build roof, then copied only the handful of new roof planes I wanted, then did an undo and pasted in place the roof planes.
