It's a crowded pool in here, but we'll find room for you.

Ahhhh, that would be a pdf. Converting each page to an image would be another way, but way more cumbersome than a pdf. Why not pdf?

"OtherCAD" is just a catch-all phrase for any other 2D drafting application. It's puzzling that the text didn't show up in AcceliCAD: & I did turn everything on. I think. I'm really liking Draftsight so far. I just installed it a few days ago.

I open it in AcceliCAD & the text isn't there. I open it in Draftsight, it's there. So, I don't think it is all Chief.

Rooms In Plan Will Not Open For Specification
ebdesign replied to firstimpression's topic in General Q & A
The OP could create an exterior room polyline when Chief highlights the exterior room & then look for where the polyline "jumps" inside the house or there are a bunch of short segments all bunched together. That would very likely be where the problem is. -
Rooms In Plan Will Not Open For Specification

THAT is funny! -
I imported that dwg into Chief & got the same thing you did. The text abv was there but not the rest. I opened in OtherCAD & all the text was there. I assumed I needed to do something in OtherCAD before importing it into Chief.

There's something strange going on in your plan. I fooled around w/ it some. Might have something to do w/ the roof only covering part of the shed- which is a "Deck" room type also. I couldn't get room labels to show. I could get the dock framing to stay when I changed the room type of the shed to something other than "deck". Also, got the framing to stay when I selected No roof/ no cl'g for the shed. Could not select the shed room in a camera, but could select the dock room in a camera. Very strange.

You should be able to control wall plate hgt w/ the cl'g values called out in the Room Spec dbx. Roof slope over a specific wall can be changed from the default in the roof tab of the Wall spec dbx. I like to keep a camera open & tiled w/ the plan so I can get immediate feedback on the changes. If it didn't work, try something else. Once auto roofs have taken it as far as you can get it, turn auto roofs off & edit them manually.

My only option is wireless & I "survive" w/ 8MBPS down, 4MBPS up for $30/mo.
-
Yup. Done a lot in FL. Probably most of the time when trusses are used.
-
Set your default framing for roofs & cl'gs at what you want to use for top & bot chords. Use an 8" CMU wall plus any other layers to get the finishes. In roof defaults, select "Trusses" & use "Raise/Lower From Cl'g Hgt" to define truss heel hgt.

Well, it does say "Copy" in the T/R dbx. "Copy" means one thing here & something else over there? Come on now, it's the same thing. If that is not the case, that's part of the problem. There ARE inconsistencies in how different things are duplicated & where they end up in plan view- depending on tool used, object type & where the task is being performed-plan or camera. One method works for some things but not others. That could be cleaned up some. IMO

Cut/paste in place them to the floor you want 'em displayed on. You'll probably have to adjust their hgt abv flr. Quick way to do that is to drag them up/down in elevation.

I don't know if this is what you want or not, but I was horsing around w/ the Wall Hatch tool & discovered that even when you change the default fill of the wall hatching & move it from "Walls, Hatching" to another layer, it still stretches w/ the wall & moves w/ it too. The hatching can get a little funky at wall intersections if they are not both hatched, but... I didn't realize wall hatching was this developed. I've used it plenty of times before, but always after walls were in place. The wall hatching is the overall width of the wall & can't be edited (I don't think). You can delete it but not move it off the wall. You can edit the ends to clean that up. Interesting. Is there a way to change the default fill?

We need to be able to do more w/ the wall hatching tool.

It's the wall definition, like Joe, Scott & others have said. Chief builds the wall main layer to the bottom of the rafter, which is "real world" & extends all layers outside the main layer to the roof gable/eave soffit. This allows eave & gable details to be defined properly. Define walls like they are put together. & roofs too. As best as Chief will allow anyway That gets the best results in 3D. w/ regard to attic walls, as long as there are no rooms directly abv on the floor/attic abv & the entire gable wall is one wall type & aligned vertically, I just have Chief "balloon thru cl'g" in the Structure tab of the wall spec dbx. Then there is no attic wall & the wall framing is continuous, which is how most all gable walls are built nowadays (at least around here). If roof framing will be trusses, as soon as you add a truss over the gable wall, Chief reframes the wall & stops the wall framing at truss BC(cl'g hgt). In the case where the gable attic wall needs to be a different wall type than wall below, simply go to the flr/attic abv, select the attic wall, change the wall type & remove the attic wall definition in the General tab of the Wall Spec dbx. Chief will not replace that wall when w/f/c's are rebuilt, & will build wall correctly to roof (provided the wall top/bot remain at default hgts). I don't see any need for a 1/16" flr. You can also disable auto regeneration of attic walls in Wall Defaults/General Wall Defaults.

The 2 that Chief has are in the Bonus Catalog, which you can download from Chief's libary. SSA of course.

How about "highly likely" Lew? Can you give me that? I think most all drive cleaners will ask or notify w/ "OK?" if the Recycle Bin is to be emptied. In the initial setup, for sure. I know Windows does. When the Recycle Bin reaches its specified capacity, it deletes the oldest files 1st. So your "inventory" is always being rotated. out w/ the old, in w/ the new. I just looked at mine. Oldest file still there is over 2yrs old.
-
Delete them all. If you ever need one, they're in your Recycle Bin. The archive folder always opens for me too; that I can remember anyway. I have it set to notify me after 30 files. 14 was too often.

Glenn & Scott, So you have a room on the 3rd flr at the same elevation as the room on the 1st flr? Yeah............ What's the 1st flr plan look like? or a flr overview? Lotsa things can be done in Chief lotsa different ways. Often times, in order to get something done, methods that don't make much sense need to be used (aka "work-arounds"). Doesn't mean they should be adopted as normal daily practice or that I need to provide for that rare occasion in my everyday template. In the 18+yrs I've been using Chief, I have never had a need to have a blank floor; not one single time. Whatever circumstances make y'all feel you need one, I find another way to get it done. I think that's important to point out to all who visit here, or I wouldn't put myself & y'all through this. Joey's last sentence of previous post makes all this worthwhile.

Scott, I'm 63. My son just turned 40. Yikes! Golf: The Bear at Grand Traverse Resort is a nice course. it's a target course, ala Europe, many strategically placed hazards; it's a little flat because PGA had some tour events here for a few yrs & it needed to be "walkable". I've played it twice in 24yrs. Plus it hosts the Michigan Pro Open every year. There are a whole bunch of beautiful courses all over this area. I've golfed several of them, but no where near even half of them. A few of my favorites: http://www.golfthechief.com/ http://www.a-ga-ming.com/torch/ http://www.grandviewgolf.net/ & my "home" course: http://timberwolfgolfclub.net/

Scott, I'm not having any trouble moving between floors. I use the arrow keys just like you do. I was trying to figure out how Perry moves directly to the attic flr w/out scrolling (arrow keys or Shift M/N) thru all the intermediate flrs; which is what he seemed to indicate he was doing in post #20. I listed the 3 ways I could think of to do that. That's all. Sorry if my syntax & sentence structure left the semantics fuzzy.
