  1. I've had some stubborn rafter tails that would not trim correctly too. Are you rebuilding roof FRAMING when you rebuild the roof plane? Shouldn't "Trim to Soffits" be checked in the Framing tab?
  2. Joe, Do you have to remove the (D) everywhere it appears in the cabinet spec dbx before you add it to your library? If that isn't done, won't the cabinet pick up the current cabinet defaults in the target plan when it's added from the library? Related: If you make changes to the component properties of a cabinet & then add it to your library, does that cabinet retain the component changes when added to another plan from the library?
  3. OK. yeah, that would be useful. Don't architectural blocks work like that? Or some groupings from the library?
  4. Just in case anyone is not aware of this: Check "By Object" to retain all the line display properties you used when creating the CAD block. Check "By Block Layer" to have all the linework in the CAD block displayed per the layer display properties the CAD block is assigned to.
  5. That's how these types of discussions often start, hijacking a thread. The OP got his answer several times early (& late) & the thread turned out to be quite informative & enlightening, at least for me. I knew there was an "issue" w/ drag/tab as an offset tool, but my understanding of how it works is much clearer now. Thanks to Glenn & Scott. I look forward to a "real" offset tool (& stretch tool) in X7.
  6. Aaarrrgggghhh..............I think it's time for one of the Chief dudes to chime in. I've been aware of this "issue" for quite a while & I'm certain I've submitted this odd behavior to TS previously, but will do so again if necessary.
  7. Yeah, .333' is just a hair short of 4", but not 5/8" short. More like 1/128"
  8. Nice tip Glenn. I can stop making a line a polyline just to move it concentrically. I think we have beaten this "drag/tab as an offset tool" into submission. There does seem to be a difference between copy/paste & copy/paste in place. You wanna see the 2-headed move handle, not the 4-headed one. It appears the behavior is pretty consistent too; although it didn't work for Scott in his short Pt2 video; even though he thought it did. (5.333' is 5'-4", not the fractional distance displayed) Why it works like that is a question for Chief. Anyway, another "secret handshake" ferretted out; & as long as the user is aware of that, drag/tab seems pretty reliable as an Offset tool. There were 666 views of this thread yesterday morning. Now there are over 1k views, so there were a few users following this.
  9. If you want to concentrically copy a polyline, why wouldn't you simply set your jump to the distance you want and drag a corner? You get the spacing between the sides that you want instead of from the corners...even w/ a non-orthogonal hexagon that you were using in your video. or was it a pentagon?
  10. So we're back to Levis' process, but it's even worse than what he wrote. You lose the copied angle of the original line from the clipboard when the original line is copy/pasted in place. You have to re-select one of the lines & copy the angle, drag the copy in the desired direction, then add/subtract 90d 9in your head.............blah, blah, blah. It should be foolproof & much easier for dummies like me.
  11. Scott, Great tip on how to concentrically resize polygons. Add a break & drag the new corner. Sweet!
  12. 2nd video: 5.333' is 5'-4" exactly. You did not get that when you offset that line. A copy of a line is always parallel to the original line until it's angle is changed by the user. Just "words" I know, but that is what we are working w/ here. Sorry to be such a PIA w/ this topic, but this is important stuff to me. Particularly w/ site plans/ property line setbacks, etc. I always dimension them after offsetting or concentric moves.
  13. Scott, I watched your video. You didn't watch mine very closely. My angle snaps are on. In your video, the lines you are offsetting are all at angles that are included in your angle snaps (15d). So when you drag the copy off the original line, the perpendicular drag angle is also part of your angle snaps. Try a line w/ an angle carried out to 6 decimal points (similar to a property/site plan) - or any line really- whose angle is not included in your angle snaps. I can get it real close, depending....... Don't forget, a truly offset line has it's (s) & (e) points also perpendicular to the original line (s) & (e). I believe movement is controlled by active snaps, w/ the angle snaps taking precedence in this case. I think for offset to truly work for ALL lines, regardless of angle, angle snaps should be off & watch for the perpendicular extension when dragging the copy. But, I certainly hope otherwise if you can do it.
  14. Scott, How long does it take to process? Anxious to see it.
  15. I'd like to see a video of it being done as claimed. Make sure the line angle is not horizontal, vertical or any other angle that is part of your angle snaps. Also show the tilde or +/- on your dimensions so we know Chief isn't rounding off the dimension.
  16. When a line is selected w/ a mouse click, the "grip" appears close to where you clicked along the line UNLESS you clicked near the mid-point of the line, in which case you will get the line midpoint as a "grip". (I believe Chief calls it a "center move handle".) "Near" might mean zoom level and/or snapping distance, but I'm guessing w/ that. I believe this happens even though mid-point snap might be disabled. Chief will move that handle to the mid-point of the line sooner or later anyway. As long as I remember Chief's videos accurately, that is my understanding. I'll be looking for Scott's video in the morning.
  17. Yeah, I misspoke about the perpendicular extension snap. I don't get it w/ angle snaps on. Doesn't matter though. I turn all snaps off except for angle snaps & get the same thing. Here's a video. The video doesn't include the "all snaps disabled except angle snaps" attempt, but it was the same thing. http://youtu.be/90c0nZhF27E
  18. I have all snaps on (except grid snaps), inc angle snaps & perpendicular extensions. I get a perpendicular little symbol as I'm draggin' the copy; plus a temporary dimension (which doesn't show up unless they are perpendicular.). I dunno. Somebody please make a video and show me.
  19. I do not get the exact distance between the lines even w/ "Polar" selected & the rest of the " ifs ands or buts". Pretty close, but not exact. This has always been the "oops" for me & why I make a polyline & use 'concentric'. Am I missing something? Probably.
  20. Have you tried that Kilgore? When you do, be sure to start w/ a single non-orthogonal line. If you can get it to work using drag/tab, clue me in please & I'll be forever grateful.
  21. When you double-click a layout view, Chief opens the plan in the LAYER SET that is currently displayed in the layout view. The LAYER SET is the controlling factor here, regardless of how you have your anno & layer sets set up. Chief is always gonna open the view in the currently displayed layer set, your anno set may be what you want or it may be "UsIng Active Defaults", depending. It can be very confusing. Also, anno sets are only controllable from layout in plan views; that feature is not available in sections, elevations, or CAD details.
  22. The intersecting wall is secured above the pocket door framing; cripples & interlocking top plates.
