  1. The nVidia forum is very good too. They rival this forum for friendly help. They installed a game on my PC & had me run some tests since they didn't have much data for my card. They said it spc'd out at least as fast as the GTX780. nVidia quit making my card soon after I bought it. go figure.
  2. Bryce, I'm running 4 monitors (2-30"s & 2 24") on my video card. It's a EVGA nVIdia GTX770 Classified(?) w/ 4g of VRAM. No problems whatsoever. If the ports are the same as mine, there are 2 DVI-D ports, an HDMI port & a Display port. The display port kept me from hooking up the 4th monitor until I could get a cable.
  3. Is there any way to stop Chief from flipping walls automatically? Man, is that irritating! It wouldn't be so irritating if Chief flipped the wall about it's main layer instead of it's overall width.
  4. A pony wall should work. Maybe your roof line at the wall is causing a problem. Post the plan to get a definitive answer.
  5. You can insert stacked fractions into any text object, but can't get 'em in dimensions right now. It's been asked for many x's over the yrs, so maybe .......................
  6. There are no pages in my layout template w/ nothing on them. Another good idea is to hide the visual display of currently unused pages.
  7. I would like to see the option to not print the pg in the Layout Page Information dbx along w/ the "Include in Layout Page Table" option. It would make it faster to create the pdf w/ the desired pgs only or print to paper also. Then we wouldn't have to delete unused pgs, just hide them from the layout page table & print dbx.
  8. "Use Active Layer Set" is found in the Anno Sets dbx & is the default setting for most of the OOB anno sets that come w/ Chief. When "Use Active Layer Set" is selected for a particular anno set & then that anno set is activated, the layer set that is current at that time will remain the same. IOW, layer sets & anno sets can be selected from their respective dbx's w no effect on the other.
  9. Lew, Jump into Anno Sets w/ both feet & get 'em wet. You're probably not gonna get your questions answered in any real detail until you make that effort. Even w/ all the debate & discussion, one thing is a given: Anno Sets are HUGE timesavers for those who need to create complete plan sets.
  10. Scott, Welcome back from the dark side. Double-click the layout view & the plan opens in the correct layer set & the correct anno set; It doesn't get much simpler than that. That is how I work once the heavy-duty annotating has begun. I think of my layer sets as 3 different (but overlapping) types: layer sets for the construction documents (layout views) which are pretty much locked in stone, working layer sets (which I change the display properties as needed) & viewing layer sets (section, elevation & 3D cameras). Since annotation is not possible in 3D cameras, no need whatsoever for anno sets there........... When I'm primarily modeling, I'm in the working layer sets w/ the 1/4" anno set active the vast majority of the time. The limited amount of annotation that is done (auto-dimensioning, etc) while modeling goes on the desired layer. There is a simple tool to change the current CAD layer. I don't know if it is part of the OOB toolbars in Chief, but that is how I change the current CAD layer. i use that frequently. There is no need to go into the Anno Sets dbx to change the current CAD layer. And then, why is the anno set/layer set debate always one way or the other. Why can't it work both ways. Pick a layer set, you get an anno set w/ it. Pick an anno set, get a layer set w/ it. Why can't it work both ways?
  11. You can also isolate it by floor by using the floor camera & the "Fill Window" command. Once you've determined what floor it is on, it can be further isolated by turning groups of layers on/off & using "Fill Window" until you have it narrowed down. Kinda like a "Price Is Right" game.
  12. It was fine until the last upgrade a few days ago......here, anyway.
  13. Has something changed w/ the new X6 update? Chief will not display the window casing in a brick wall unless the window is NOT recessed. what.zip
  14. Thanks Glenn. I don't understand how a person (me) can go thru Preferences, come to Reset Options & then say to one's self, "Nah, it can't be in there." Grrrr.....
  15. That's a good question, Rob. Looks like you have a pretty clear idea of how it works. I don't think "Show Line wgts" is meant to be much more than a quick visual comparison between lines. I pretty much only have it enabled for elevation/section layout views to quickly see what lines need to be cleaned up w/ "Edit Layout". Once I've gotten comfortable w/ the printed output of my line wgts & styles, I don't pay much attention to how they display on screen.(Although anything out of the ordinary will usually "jump" out at me.) I look over the pdfs pretty thoroughly. Having "Show Line wgts" enabled is also a huge resource hog. It really slows down view generation.
  16. There's only one monitor. I can't figure it out. I thought there was a "Restore" default position or something like that.
  17. I make a pdf & set the zoom level in Adobe Acrobat (or the reader) at 100% & then pan around the pdf to see how it will print. Would be nice if Chief layout had the same thing. The "Show Line wgts" tool is primarily to view relative thicknesses of lines compared to other lines. IMO. Take a look at Preferences/CAD/Line Properties/Endcap Printed Length. Always select "Use Layout Line Scaling" for views sent to layout to have your line styles print exactly the same regardless of scale used. & of course, you can create your own line styles if the OOB lines don't have what you want. The attached pdf illustrates how "Use Layout Line Scaling" works. Notice how the polyline prints exactly the same regardless of scale, including at the corners. Untitled 2-Layout.pdf
  18. One of my customers can't find the Project Browser. It's "on", but nowhere to be found.
  19. Try disabling "Line Wgts".
  20. Keep your details in a "Details" plan & send them to all your different layouts from that plan. There really is no need to bring (import) the same detail into every plan that will use it. This method does require you to stay on top of your file/folder management though.
  21. If you want walls to the floor & room defs, use a normal dormer; if not, use a floating dormer. Shouldn't matter. Size & position your dormer, then explode it, find/select/delete the "hole in roof" polyline & edit the main roof plane around the dormer cheek walls & dormer roof planes. Use "Join Roofs' tool there.
  22. Use "Cut" instead of "Copy" & you won't have to go back & delete the original.
  23. If you are getting 4 13/16" rafters over the wall, you may not have a room def & Chief sees that as one big gable overhang.
