Chief defaults to dimensioning the face of the stud (wall dimension layer), so without looking at the drawing it's possible that your input dimensions (wall surface) are off by 0.5" per wall when adjusted. Preferences>Dimensions>1/4" Scale (for example)

Good morning guys, Is there a way to save my Custom Color additions between sessions - they always seem to reset when I launch the program.
-
No problems, only took a few minutes to do the conversions.
-
It's been very stable for me, beginning with Beta2. I am using X9 for production work now.

We really have it pretty good with Chief Architect folks. If you want to amuse yourself for a few minutes, here is a recent video on how to create corner trim using Revit. LOL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no8cqwgmCt0

I'd recommend making a small investment in yourself by going to chieftutor.net and subscribing to the video series. You will save yourself lots of time and frustration and also lay a good foundation for your success with Chief Architect. JMO.

Just amazing. That drone will come in handy when you want to get a bag of chips delivered from the pantry.

Yea, looks like your system rocks. No waiting around for that rig, except that were all waiting around for a rig like that.

This is a good graphics card, and almost certainly not related to the 5-minute save times. Lots of folks are waiting for the new GTX 1080Ti which will be half the cost of the Titan X - out sometime in February. http://www.pcgamesn.com/nvidia/nvidia-gtx-1080-ti-release-date

It is possible to get much higher large block write numbers if you want to invest the time. This guy is running 12 times faster on benchmark I/O.
-
You might go through the checklist here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00521/troubleshooting-slowness-in-chief-architect-plans.html
-
Your numbers generally look good, but you are taking a hit on larger file read and writes. That's the 4K block test on the bottom. Are you using Win10 disk compression - that would slow you down.
-
Yes, I did not read your post carefully. You might install CrystalMark software and measure your drive performance. I'd be interested to see what sort of numbers you are getting on each drive. http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskMark/index-e.html I used the 2.7M Installer version

Thanks Guys, it was really easy to assign the keys as I had not messed with this before. CA has some strange things assigned to the keyboard; makes me wonder how everybody else is using these features.

Anyone have a way to format text Left/Centered/Right with a keyboard command or menu item?

Frustrated With Chief ....may Be Going To Softplan
Griffin replied to joedesign30's topic in General Q & A
I worked with Softplan 2016 for about 6 months and completed a dozen projects before moving over to Chief in July (I'm very happy I did). Softplan is not very intuitive but quite powerful and has some features still lacking in CA (doors and stairs are better in SP). However, changing wall definitions, creating complex roofs, adding to libraries, working with Sketchup objects and a few other things are a real pain. If you read the book (required to get up and running), you will see that it is VERY procedure oriented. You start here and then do this, and then you can go to the next process. Get out of sequence and all hell breaks loose in terms of productivity. Be prepared to take at least 100+ hours get a full project done the first time through. Softplan is really designed for the high-volume builder who is cranking out small modifications on a handful of stock designs they build over and over. SP can't be beat for that type of work which is why it has a loyal following. If you are doing one-off designs then CA is much better IMO and more 'fun' to use (if there is such a thing after working every day on the computer). -
If you use notes on a single plan page (instead of a template page) and the send the desired note section to a layout page, you can still have one source file for any edits. I don't have a problem coordinating the changes on the layout page as it does not happen very often.
-
Here are the text notes I'm currently using. I keep these on Page 1 of the template and then distribute the notes out over the drawing pages as I go. Any additions would be welcome (in any format). Text_Notes.layout
-
I use Joey's method and it seems to work pretty well for me. I reuse the template from project to project so I always have the most current revision. My notes are mostly what comes standard with CA plus a few changes. Does anyone have a more complete set of notes for Residential they can share?

Hi William, I was hoping to find something in Chief that would be more easily modified, but this is a better source than anything I have here. Many thanks!

Does anyone have a basic set of dumpster details they can share?

Baseboard showing up on exterior elevations
Griffin replied to cjanderson66's topic in General Q & A
You might try setting the room type to undefined and see if you can reset the baseboard definition.- 9 replies

Send to layout Line Thickness Question......
Griffin replied to Korel_Design's topic in General Q & A
FWIW, I'm using Joey's 1=1/700 in. approach which works well for me because the integer number line widths are small enough to distinguish in plan view. I have also cut way down on the number of layer sets I need to manage. Who is the Annotation Set GURU here? I could still use some tips with this aspect of the program as it's so powerful.
