Griffin Posted June 21, 2016 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Still (apparently) new to CA. My floor framing always wants to build LVLs, where can I change this to lumber as a standard default setting? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Alaskan_Son Posted June 21, 2016 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Floor defaults, structure tab. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Griffin Posted June 21, 2016 Author Share Posted June 21, 2016 Thank you, and where is THAT tab located for default settings. I can click on every joist to change the material, but I can seem to locate the general default. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Joe_Carrick Posted June 21, 2016 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Edit->Default Settings->Framing->Foundation Edit->Default Settings->Framing->1st Edit->Default Settings->Framing->2nd etc Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Griffin Posted June 21, 2016 Author Share Posted June 21, 2016 Thanks, but I guess I'm not asking the question correctly. The framing defaults dialog under EDIT>DEFAULT SETTINGS>FRAMING>FOUNDATION does not appear to have a tab or dialogue box for the floor structure tab, it only has floor structure thickness. I want to frame with 2x12 joists, not LVL's which seem to be the default. I want to change the program to always default to dimensional lumber, not LVLs for joists. Joe_Carrick Posted June 21, 2016 Share Posted June 21, 2016 In that dialog, select Edit, then highlight the joist size (change the size if needed). The Structure Type drop-down box will be activated. You can select the type of framing there. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Chopsaw Posted June 21, 2016 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Just like Joe said and here is the Picture that took 30 seconds extra. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Solution Canuck Posted June 21, 2016 Solution Share Posted June 21, 2016 Default > Floor> Floor Structure Edit (L)> Layer 2> 11.25"> Structure Type: Lumber> OK. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Griffin Posted June 21, 2016 Author Share Posted June 21, 2016 Thanks, my problem was the grayed-out value for Floor Structures Layers. The dialogue defaults to the first layer which is the plywood (which is the only option and therefore grayed out). I have previously set layer 2 to 11.25" for the 2"x12" joist, but did not see that allowed me to change the structure type as well. Thanks guys. Griffin Posted June 21, 2016 Author Share Posted June 21, 2016 Yes, Canuck that was the key: Layer 2. Thanks. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Alaskan_Son Posted June 21, 2016 Share Posted June 21, 2016 Just to clarify here... -As I suggested and as Richard spelled out in a little more detail, you can adjust the floor structure settings via Edit>Default Settings>Floor>Floor Structure. Doing this you will adjust the floor defaults for whichever floor you are on when you open the Default Settings dbx. -As Joe suggested you can also reach the exact same Floor Structure dbx. by going through the framing defaults. This has the benefit of allowing you to adjust those settings for multiple floors without having to switch floors and open up defaults again. -The above 2 methods only adjust the "defaults" on a floor by floor basis. In order to adjust the ACTUAL floor structure defaults plan wide though you need to do so via Edit>Default Settings>Rooms>Normal Room>Floor Structure tab. This way you can actually check that little Default box if you want to. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Canuck Posted June 21, 2016 Share Posted June 21, 2016 I think the thanks should go to the entire crew here as we teach each other. I only knew the answer because Scott answered it for me last Oct.ish. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
