stager386
Does anyone know how to create a different material region on the floor that has an unusual shape?
jscussel
Use the "Floor Material Region" tool and shape it as you want. What version are you using?
stager386
Thanks Jon. I am using X8. But I cannot make the floor material the shape I need. I've attached the floorplan.
Joe_Carrick
Select the Floor Material Region and use the "Break Tool" to add vertices. Then grab the edit handles and move to the locations where you want them. You can also change a segment to an arc if needed. Editing the Material Region is just like any other Polyline object. rlackore
To add to what Jon and Joe said, you can also create a closed polyline, edit it's shape to whatever you need, then convert it to a material region using the convert polyline tool.
DMDesigns
The real question is, how come it does not flush the top of the tile to the wood..? --Dave
Joe_Carrick
The real question is, how come it does not flush the top of the tile to the wood..? --Dave Simple answer. The Material Region is a different thickness than the Floor Finish. The Material Region only cuts down to the sub-floor.
Alaskan_Son
Joe is correct. Increase thickness of one or more of the layers to bring flush or uncheck Cuts Finish Layer of Parent Object.
stager386
Thank you everyone!! My next issue......I want to remove the tiled ceiling and paint the exposed ducts and pipes. This is a basement remodel. Do I need to learn how to build the ceiling to show the things that are normally covered?

You'll need to remove any ceiling finish layer(s), build framing for the floor or ceiling above, and you'll need to learn how to model the ducts and pipes as well. rlackore
Build the floor/ceiling framing, either manually or automatically. Open the Room Specification dbx and remove the ceiling finish. This will expose the floor framing and/or the ceiling joists above.
stager386
I guess I can't build framing. I have Interiors. Not Premier.
Joe_Carrick
So you would need to use PSolids or Molding Polylines for the framing.
