JDesign
If Chief is working fine on regular sata 6 harddrive, would it make any noticeable perfomance difference if I added a SSD drive, a 120gb, and only installed Chief on it? In other words add a SSD slave, call it D or E or...but just for Chief? I have an opportunity to pick up a slightly used Intel 120gb SSD for a very reasonable price. DRAWZILLA
A while back I purchased an SSD, tb size drive, with everything on it, and it made a huge difference for me but It really depends on what you already have. If you have a killer system , you probably won't see as much difference. Mine was getting a little old so it really helped me.
KenL-sdd
SSD made a huge difference in my systems. I cloned my main drive to a SSD then used the old drive a D or E. Be sure the operating system, chief and all drawing files are on the ssd.
JDesign
So the OS and chief and product files should ALL be on the ssd? I have used multiple drives and partitions before but a 120 now seems a tad small? Of course one can move all the other stuff to D or E..... TheKitchenAbode
Best to put Chief, the OS, programs and main files on the SSD. That way you will get maximum performance. You should also notice an improvement in your catalogs as these are disk based. Graham
KenL-sdd
Amazon has the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM) for $149.00. Free shipping. That is a good deal!
DakotaContractor
Definitely get a SSD. Makes a world of difference for CA and just about everything else. Like Ken said, you can pick up a Samsung SSD for cheap. I went with a couple of the 1 TB ones. Would never go back.

mrscott
Perry, Would your mind sharing your system specs? I have my Windows 10 Pro and X8 installed on a Samsung EVO 850Pro 128GB SATA on a 6GB bus connector. I need to upgrade to at least 512GB but was wondering if I should use my MOBO's (ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS) M.2 slot for this drive. Which connection will make for quicker response? Thanks Bro!
