Hi everybody,

I have been using chief for a very long time, but I still come across this issue. I need rock around the stove area and the fireplace, but no matter what i do, it shows as the default paint color. If I add a stone wall in another room, it works fine. can someone please help. Driving me crazy.

Thank you Brian

As Shane said... Would be a good idea to post the plan. In the meantime, are you trying to paint the walls, use a material region, use a polyline solid, add a wallcovering, moulding...?

Brian,

Try changing the interior and exterior wall materials from the plan's 'default' to your csv2021t. Sometimes if a wall gets painted there's no retrieving it, not saying that's what happened, but if you change the interior and exterior wall materials in the materials dbx your stone texture returns. Only tried the fireplace but might work elsewhere as well.

Try the "Wall Material Regions".  I like using them because it provides a Real Word example of what is occurring and could help highlight any conflicts with other objects.

I redefined the walls to have 1/2" drywall on each side. Added the stone via the Materials panel, then set the thickness back to 3-1/2", or something like that.

Related Question

I define a new wall in Brian's plan, stone, studs, drywall. Stone does not show. Define same wall in new plan, stone shows.

What is overriding the stone in Brian's plan?

Eric, I think it's the 'default' material and the wall might have gotten painted at some point. If you change the interior and exterior wall material from default to the stone material csv...it works perfectly as it should. Not in the wall dbx, but in the material tab. Learned that about many moons ago from that would be smarter about such things.

...and did you define a new wall, in Brian's plan, by copying the/an old wall that had the same default material? Sometimes the default setting will mess things up.

And wait, I'm pretty sure Glenn is awake and he can set it straight.

Hey Brian,

Open the room>Materials>Walls>Select Material>Use Default Material.

I think at some point you may have painted the walls or changed the material through the room dbx. In which case I believe the ROOM will control the wall material from that point forward...until you check "Use Default Material".

I think that was the method I was searching for. It works with the method I described but I think this method is faster/better.

Michael, this didn't work when I tried it. I tried it wrong DOH. I selected the wall not the room. Nice.

3 walls shown. Defined as New, not a copy. Stone, framing, drywall.

Drawn inside existing structure, shows default? finish. Wall drawn outside any structure renders correctly. Wall drawn in new structure built with default exterior walls shows correctly.

Anyone understand why the incorrect one is incorrect?

Eric, select the room>materials>select materials>check Use Default Material in lower left of dbx. fixed. The room material was over riding the wall material.

EXACTLY as Michael described above. I misread his original post.

When I place a window/door/etc. on a wall and type in the dimensions, sometimes it will move the edge of the wall instead of moving the window along the wall. (ie: if I have a 20' wall with a window on it, I want the length between the corner and the window to be 4'... instead of moving the window over on the wall, it will just extend the edge of the wall out past its original point so it's now 24'). Please help!! I'm not sure how to look up this issue so if there's a video on it already please direct me there!

I have watched the video of ChiefSkills by Steve Nestor, "DORMERS - Auto and Manual Types"
Trying to use the idea there to cut my walls out of the living space. I think you called it "Cheek Walls".
See the real picture and the angled ceiling. That is what I am trying to do.
      Any thoughts?

Hi, I am a Revit user converting to Chief.
When working with angled walls in Chief, I have not been able to lock a wall from moving when changing dimensions on connecting walls.
I am familiar with how to use the directional tools to move an end of an object to adjust its dimensions.
When angled walls are off-angle, I can waste significant time adjusting the lengths of the angled walls and still not achieve the dimensions I need for all connecting walls.

The use case scenario is when I am drafting a plan using dimensions provided to me to create the build.
Of course, if I was creating a plan from scratch, I could probably avoid this situation.

      Any suggestions?

The wall shown is on the same plane with a false gable roof above only a portion. The wall from the interior will reflect the same ceiling height as the rest of the home, but from the front elevation I would like the wall to be taller to move my gable up. How can this be done in CA as the wall heights are dictated by the room's ceiling height?
