JKEdmo
Is it possible to have a deck room's planking stop at the inside of a wall instead of running to the exterior of the wall / floor platform (e.g. w/ a deck offset value)? I have an existing enclosed screened porch and I thought I'd tried to show the flooring with true deck boards. I know deck rooms are supposed to be exterior, but was wondering if this can be finessed as a deck room type w/o resorting to manually adjusting deck board widths, etc. Thanks again, Jim

This is X18 btw.

MPDesign
Not at computer, curious what the minimum width for a boarder plank is? Maybe 1/16"

JKEdmo
Well, I think I figured out a workaround. Not sure if this will lead to issues down the road... A Deck Room is an exterior type room and I believe I read somewhere it is designed to generate deck boards to the exterior edge of the deck walls that are not adjacent to interior rooms. So, I created an adjacent Open Below room next to the Deck room to get rid of the exterior space and it seems to work. The interior deck boards now stop at interior wall surface. MPDesign
Hi Jim, I was wondering if you set the border to be 1/16" wide if it would work in deck mode. Clever idea to make the room outside of the deck room!
Joe_Carrick
Jim, Are your railing walls defined outside the deck? Maybe reversing the wall layers would help.

Joe, I just tried your idea and reversed the walls so that the exterior wall layer was to inside of porch room. Did not seem to make a difference unfortunately, i.e. did not force deck plpanks to build to inside. My guess is Chief has it so that deck planking builds to the exterior room boundary rather than exterior layer of a wall. Thanks, Jim
CliffsCris
I was messing around with this because the project I'm currently working in has a deck. X18 has added the "Build Platform to Exterior of Layer" and "Build Deck Platform to Exterior of Layer" options to wall settings under wall type definitions, but it only allows you to pick between Exterior and Main Layers. If you have multiple Main Layers it will only allow you to choose the top Main Layer but as many Exterior Layers as you want. I was not able to come up with a combination to get it to work how you want it, but maybe that will help.
Joe_Carrick
OK, do this: Make the railing wall a "Room Divider" Add another "Railing Wall" and mark it "No Room Definition" Move that wall into position up against the Room Divider. It should work just fine. except that you will need to add an exterior band (Molding Polyline Framing or Fasia) around the deck to make the 3D and Framing work. Deck Planks need to cover Framing.
