x18 room label issue

I am not sure if this rises to the top of a gripe list but...

I selected a room (closet in this case) and went direct to the label tab and turned it off in all views, then jumped to the room tab and changed the room type to "Closet" from "Living" and the label suppression was then switched off. Not the behavior I was expecting. Has this been happening similarly in previous versions?

It's always worked that way, more or less.  Try it in X17 and you will notice that when you change the room type that it would automatically check the box for "show room label".  The big difference is that the "show room label" checkbox was right there where you could see it instead of on the label page where it is handled now.  Another difference is that in X17 there was a preference setting that allow you to turn on this automatic behavior that looks like it is not in X18.  Not sure why they got rid of that though.

When switching room types there are a number of room settings that will automatically change according to the Room Types Defaults. Room Labels' Display options are the same way. In x18 the Room Types Dialog now has a label panel. This allows for setting a label text style and visibility based on room type to make it convenient when switching room types. For example, if you prefer your closet rooms using a smaller text style by default you can set that in the Room Types Defaults and then whenever you change a room to be a closet, that room will automatically use the smaller text style. 

If this is undesirable behavior or would be better changed in any way we appreciate your feedback and reports so we can make this functionality more useful.

Hi Tyler,

 

For my room labels I'm still using "Rich Text" that I've stored in the Library.  This allows me to have different text styles & sizes on each line of the label.  I have several different RTB's that cover the area, dimensions, ceiling height, etc depending on the room types.

 

I currently have to manually place these in each room.  It doesn't take too much time but having it automatic would definitely be an improvement.

 

It would be great if there was an option in the defaults for each room to use a "named library object".  IOW, in the "Room Label" defaults and in the "Room Specification  Label" have this:

• Label Content
  • Automatic Label
  • Specify Label
  • Label Source (library object)

This would also need to be in the "Room Types" defaults so each room type could be different.

 

Mainly I'm interested simply to get the automatic placement in the room(s), but I might also want to vary other parameters such as layer or color.

 

I would think this could be fairly simple to program - just the source of the label to be used.

I think your suggestion should just be allow rich text in room labels which we've been hammering for years.
Because you could just write conditions for room type and accomplish the same thing and would be less work than going through every room type to produce a unique label. 
Also I will mention it again, I am perfectly happy to login to your machine and show you exactly how I have this done using a custom font and how simple it is once you have it setup.
Its a helper manual that remaps anything you want to another part of a font family. And I can do this for any font you want in a matter of minutes. So while we are holding your breath for RT in room labels you can have the perfect system without all of this manual work that you are doing with your labels.
If you are at the raining in idaho I'd be happy to set this up for you

Unfortunately for me, going to the UGM in Idaho is just to much money.

My RTB room labels use Arial Normal but with Bold, Underline & sometimes Italic.    Here are a few examples:

 

All of this information is presented by custom macros.  I don't currently use a check for "room type" but I do check some NVPs.

 

Are you really able to do this with the current room labels.
