Ponywall question

I have a 2x6 Pony wall with 1 1/4" thick clapboard siding on the lower 2/3 and 1/2" shingle siding on the top 1/3. After working on the design for some time I realized I needed to thicken the shingle siding from 1/2" to 7/8". When I changed the thickness of the shingles, I noticed my Pony wall moved back half the distance of the added thickness (added 3/8" moved back 3/16". In trying to trouble shoot this "problem" I increased the clapboard thickness by 1" to see what the results would be. The wall did not move when increasing the clapboard thickness, moved only when I increased to top shingle siding section of the Pony wall and that would move half the distance back of the total increased thickness I added to the siding. I have my 2x6 studs as the main layer and I have the pony wall to align with the outside of the main layer. In some way I'm hoping I'm just having a "senior moment" because I'm at a lost as to what is going on. Any advice would be much appreciated.
