If I use a section camera as a callout and put it on a layer should I be able to turn that callout off in different plan views

Yes, that works.  Just set that layer to not display in the plan views where you don't want to show it.

There is also a setting in the Camera dbx for "Display on All Floors" which can be useful.

thanks for the answer but if I start new plan that works. In the plan I am working on the section camera callouts  don't want to turn off.

 Is there possibly a setting somewhere that would not let the callout be turned off.

  if I insert a callout they behave correct. only camera used as callouts don't work.

I tried it on an existing plan.  I changed the layer of a Cross Section Camera to a new Layer which I created.  Then in another Saved Plan View that didn't use the same Layer Set I unchecked that layer for display. 

 

It worked perfectly.

When I switched back to the first Saved Plan View the Cross Section Camera was displayed.

What is sometimes confusing is when a camera view is open it will always be visible even when turned off.

Thanks Michael.  I did not know that was an available setting.  It must be on by default.  Very helpful.
