ACADuser
Building these is a PITA, is there a better way? I just guess at the locations of the roof baseline when creating the roof planes needed. Once you have one you can copy but that first one is tedious work. Any ideas? Kbird1
Those are Called Roof Returns in CA and can be done Automatically in the Wall's DBX M.
ACADuser
Mick, Not the same roof, but thanks. The roof built can not be modified to look like what I wanted. Eric, Do not understand the process but will try again when I return in a few hours. Thanks
Kbird1
I didn't open your plan , it appeared to be a standard roof return so I didn't go any further..... what is it you want to do? M.
joey_martin
Alan when you select the roof return there is an option to "extend" the roof return. Set that to 8"-10" and see what you get. I bet you get what you are looking for.

Kbird1
If the Roof over the garage Door is supposed to extend all the way across you may need to break it's edge and drag it left manually and join it to the Porch roof. Auto Returns seem to work all right though in your plan.... M.

TriumphantBuild
Does anyone have a picture or diagram of the framing layout for this hip return bird box?
GeneDavis
I don't like a hipped return to have the same pitch as the main roof, and so lower the pitch of the two small roof planes that make the return, to maybe half what the big roof has. Which means I gotta build them manually. Maybe I ought to find out how to edit the auto-generated ones.

TriumphantBuild
I tried lowering the pitch to and 8. Ran into planing issues. It only worked out when I kept it the same pitch as main roof. First one took me 45 minutes to frame. The last one took 15 minutes.
