  1. Yes!.. I noticed that too. Good to see it coming.
  2. You'll need to build the back wall of the silo... and you'll need to figure out if you want it to cut into the shed roof behind it, or sit on top. Lots of ways to roof a silo too.... you want a dome roof, or round, or shaped same as the oblong silo shape you made? I think you're going to find that the height will need to be adjusted up or down to look best. BTW you didn't actually attach your plan file.
  3. Rich, In the 'Suggestions' part of the Forum, suggest that Chief implement the ability to input negative radius values for a 'double arch' so the inverted arch could be done.
  4. Thank you Michael, Aaaarghh... If I had tried using 'Double arch' instead of 'Broken arch' I could have got it to work. In a way I'm glad I didn't figure it out though, because then I wouldn't have complained and learned the mulling trick...LOL. Mulling is certainly the easier way to go. However, there may come a case where it's not, so good to know this double arch method. Appreciate the well-made video.
  5. OMG!.. thanks guys. I tried so many things and the idea of mulling then arching did not occur to me. Much appreciated.
  6. Pssh... even a proper non-inverted 3-part broken arch is impossible with current window tools. I can only get them about as shown... looks terrible to me
  7. 99% of the time I'm sure click and drag is faster. In my usage, the 1% where an extend command would be nice is an off angle wall that doesn't follow a snap angle. It gets touchy to keep it on track.
  8. Thanks Mick, Ok... well that is interesting that it was the first 'new feature' covered in X10. My bad I guess. Now watching it again I do see why it evaded my interest though. To me it does little to nothing to really express how it can be helpful/useful. I see it's trying but it simply doesn't grab. Perhaps it's just the nature of this ability, because even after all of this talk I still don't fully see or understand it providing a great benefit to my current workflow. I'm going to start using it, I assume it will grow on me.
  9. Hi Michael. Yes I did click it... but only after I just earlier went back to this help file to create my prior post. And that only happened now because of reading all the glowing reports by you and others about how great the feature is, which made me curious for more info. But until now I wouldn't have felt inclined to dig deeper for information on something I didn't see or even know what I was missing. Eric, yes I did see you posted those links above, and thank you for doing that. Yes, I understand the help system is not a user guide.. but still it could offer just a tad more. If they had a link to those videos there that would've been awesome. Somehow you guys and others found the nugget of info that lead you to further searching and figuring out the usefulness of this feature. But it seems many others, like me, didn't. I think it's fairly critical for either the new features video to get the message across enough to make one want to look for more info on a feature. The intro to new features videos by Chief are really great, but ideally there would be a path of numbered videos that one can follow to learn about the features in a logical order so not to miss anything. I appreciate your guys' informational posts here, and everyone else's as well. The Chief community here is awesome. Happy 2020 to all.
  10. I have to whole-heartedly agree with Steve here. Everyone's talking about all these great things about saved plan views, and yet here (see image) is the explanation of saved plan views in the F1 help file. There is absolutely nothing to explain what it is and how it helps anyone. My method for learning about each new version of Chief has been to watch the introductory video and note which new features are special and then try to use them immediately so to lock them into my brain and workflow. Perhaps this feature was covered in the X11 video but it must not have carried much of a splash in it's explanation, and the help file here is an absolute dud. Just watched the X12 intro video and as Rene alluded, it appears Anno sets will be going away. I have to say X12 looks to be incorporating many things which have been asked for in the last year and half that I've been following and posting on the 'suggestions' forum. Kudos to Chief.
  11. Another simple solution since it's for 'as-built' which you should only need a plan view for, is to just draw those walls using lines
  12. Sorry, I cannot understand your first question at all. Second question I can understand, but looking at your model I see you are showing a 6:12 roof pitch and I can see from the picture that the existing roof is at least 8:12 pitch, so that is part of your problem, but your roof has all kinds of errors which would take quite a while to fix and would require knowledge of the existing house that is not available from that photo. It could be fudged into some kind of conformity if accuracy is not important, but more importantly I see major problems if you really want to attach the new porch roof as you have it shown in your model. You're showing it below the existing roof eave, but looking at your attached photo, it appears that would place it directly in front of the glass of the large window on the left which goes up quite high in relation to the roof fascia. Your model does not represent the existing condition in that regard.
  13. Maybe try to push them to do 8:10 pitch at 8' plate to match existing roof/fascia then do tray ceiling at 10' to get the height
  14. Need a cricket in these two spots in red
  15. Yep.... that's where I was saying you'll need a cricket. You'll also need a little one on left if you have to frame around the small pop-out. I just noticed you must've posted a new pic of slightly different size of addition after I commented. Looks like you have it figured out about right.
  16. I would ask why they won't do 8:12, but I'm sure you must've done that already and they have their reasons. If your green lines represent the new roof plan, I would advise to not hip down back toward the house but rather run the two new side roofs together as a ridge back to the house. I would also suggest removing the little 8:12 pop-out on the left then let the new roof frame over that area and California frame over the existing roof as needed. A little cricket is needed on right for where what I assume is garage roof will adjoin the new roof . If they won't remove the little bump-out, it's the same thing but will need another little cricket on the rt. side of where the little bump-out hits the new roof.
  17. Use Tab or Transform/Replicate per others, BUT I too came from Acad and I have suggested several times in the forum that Chief add the ability to move the selected objects in the desired direction and simply type the distance. Hopefully that will happen some day. As for offset... I too miss the simplicity of the offset command in Acad, but there is a fairly close equivalent called 'Concentric Behavior'. Hit the F1 key in Chief look it up. You can map the behavior to a hot key, or better yet I recently learned to map it to one of the extra side buttons on my mouse.
  18. As explained by others it's a psychological incentive to see the price start with a 4 instead of a 5. But, if you think lowering the price by $5 is nonsense, you should know that here in the U.S. gasoline is sold with prices ending with 9/10th of a cent! A historical pricing scheme from back when gas was only pennies per gallon and some wise-guy decided to beat the price of his competitor by 1/10th of a cent. This is a practice that goes on to this day. Talk about wacky.
  19. Whether or not you work with grids on, the setting you use can be important. Per Glenn's comment, the Snap Grid setting not only sets the grid, but the increment for moving objects with the arrow keys. I usually work with grids turned off, but frequently use the arrow keys to move objects by increments set in my snap setting. I prefer 1/2".
  20. Thanks for trying guys... I thought perhaps I was missing something, which I'm prone to doing. Just figured out my workaround which is to send the ortho-overview to layout, then send plan view to layout with everything turned off except for room names and notes and overlay them.
  21. Using watercolor with line drawing on top
  22. You can set your snap units to whatever you want in General Plan Defaults
  23. Is it possible to show Room Labels and/or other text in an orthographic floor overview? I have those layers on, but no joy. Any workarounds?
  24. Probably not the ultimate solution you're looking for, but you could maneuver the model or plan within CA to show what you want to show, then take a screenshot to mark-up using whatever program your Wacom tablet will support
  25. Nick, Maybe you thought of this already, but I would suggest that you make and rename a copy of your plan after you build the phase one model, and use the renamed copy to do your phase 2.
