I don't think that CA could be expected to create walls from cad that has such a varied wall thickness represented. Alan: since I have never had any success with CTW I suspect this tool is "worthless" I think you are looking for a button called "Draftsman for Hire" no, I was hoping a Chief feature would work as intended I had already anticipated that tracing would probably be needed but wanted to check if any others more skilled than I could get the tool to work Lew

Export your .plan as a dwg ... save to desktop ... open a new plan .... import the dwg into your new plan Curt: why these steps ??? why not use the plan as it was imported originally ??? Lew

I've been using Norton 360 for years I has been consistently receiving the highest reviews in the PC magazines years ago it was totally re-written and no longer the resource hog that it used to be Lew
-
Curt: just curious - is that opinion or did you try it ? no need to try if you didn't for tracing my next step is to determine how to create a proper wall type Lew

one of my rules is to get as much in the box as you can afford now for items that can't be upgraded later especially if the upgrade can be done externally via USB etc buy what you need now but plan for the future if so, then a PC can meet your needs for 4-5+ years instead of 2-3 years get a decent power supply - probably 800W+ range Lew

I've tried to use this tool for the room that is dimensioned but no joy I use the wizard and nothing happens ??? is it possible to use CTW on this plan ??? if so, with what settings ??? I know it can be traced but was hoping CTW would work I haven't tried CTW since Ver 9.5 as it never seemed to work then either Lew NACC_SUITE 118_141002_2145_LBX6.zip

Joey: Vista was decent after SP2 - my laptop is still Vista Win7 is similar to Vista which is why I went with it instead of Win 8.1 for my desktop in Jan When I next need a desktop or laptop I will move on to Win 10 or later Lew
-
yep, it was "import hatched entities" that worked Lew

JOY JOY JOY made a few other setting changes I'll go back and isolate which one is the key Lew

newbies deserve a break concerning "post the plan" but Todd has been around long enough now to know the drill Lew

Michael: my preference is for name brands I've never tried to "go local" - maybe I should but have no idea who to trust ??? with a name brand I might have a chance of them honoring the warranty just my thoughts .... Lew
-
Joey: I like HP's tech support - had good experience with them at least while under warranty not all brands use India for tech support basically toss a coin and choose a name brand that has the specs you want/need I check the reviews on Amazon and Cnet and Computer Shopper (very extensive) EVERY product will have negative reviews some will sound "horrible" so I look for 100+ reviews with 4-5 stars overall I will read the negative reviews to ensure that the product meets my wants/needs As for OS, I hear Win 8.1 is finally "user-friendly" for desktop users I decided to stay with Win 7 when I bought a PC in Jan when my prior PC died in an Ice storm power surge Windows 10 is coming in the spring (MS is skipping Win 9) but that is probably to long to wait Lew Lew

Michael: thanks for confirming I contacted the building manager about trying again I'll check out Draftsight Lew

The attached DWG file is imported as a single line ? it is suppose to be a floor plan of a suite of rooms I am renting for my Foundation's museum I used the import wizard and accepted the default settings is this a "bad" file or am I doing something wrong the file is only 114 KB so I suspect it is a "bad" file ? my experience with importing DWG's is minimal I used to have a viewer on my prior PC but don't remember the name what is a decent free viewer to use ? I have encountered this when working on plans for others from the layout I would click the yellow camera icon which takes you back to the plan then I would copy and rename the layerset 27 etc to layerset that I wanted then delete layerset 27 this way I wouldn't lose any of the clients work but not have a zillion layersets with names that didn't mean anything Lew
-
Tommy: yep, I read that X6 can do cropping however, since I'm not doing plans anymore I haven't used it yet Lew
-
Tommy: I wasn't trying to give step by step Glenn already did that was just giving an FYI as to why a corner handle versus other handles Lew
-
CGU Joe: I don't get this part ??? Lew
-
using a corner handle keeps the aspect ratio Lew

How Do I Show Shelves As Dashed Behind Cabinet Doors?
lbuttery replied to 4hotshoez's topic in General Q & A
Todd: Chief does have a number of "hard-coded" values left over from the old days they are trying to eliminate them in favor of dbx settings but there are still some .... Lew -
I don't really need 1/32" accuracy. Guess I will be doing a lot of rounding in my head... Rob: I found it easier to do the math if I wrote all dims in 1/16 increments so 3/4 would be written as 12/16 so 1/2 would be written as 8/16 Lew

I started in 1976 with 110 Baud then 300 then 1200 then 9600 by late 80's thought I was cooking back then dial-up was and still is dog slow but it was all we had back then I've never had fiber optics available came to my street in VA (outside DC) just as I was moving back to Buffalo not here and probably be a long time coming yet Lew
