  1. Yeah buddy, one of my favorites. I just love "TRAVELING BAND".
  2. Trivia question, and don't look it up, who wrote the song and who recorded it first. If I am right, it was originally done by one of my all time favorite bands.
  3. To move a particular SIDE a defined perpendicular distance. I think this would be what we would want to do 99% of the time. I do not think that in the last 40 years I have ever wanted to resize a pentagon by a ratio of of 1.25.
  4. BTW, try resizing a pentagon that is anything but orthogonal. I can do it, but can you? I will do a vid in the AM to explore how confusing this can be for those that do not know the secret password.
  5. There you go, have angle snaps off, stand on your tip toes, do 3 hail Mary's and if you are lucky, it will work. Yeah, I know, I am being cynical, but don't we want this to be easy for those of us that ain't the sharpest knives in the block. Actually, I think I was able to do it with angle snaps on.......... but I should never contradict the Great Glenn Woodward...... but I will check in the AM to see if by chance I know more than GW.
  6. Wow, we told him how to do it and he still can't do it. What does that tell you? Either it does not work or it is such a PITA that even a competant user can not do it. Is anybody listening at headquarters?
  7. My question would be why does he have to be careful? I believe this thread is about the weakness of CA's tools. Jim has been using this program longer than I have had my wisdom teeth in. He knows the program pretty well..... but he did not know this? Why not? Because he has to be careful? CA should listen to these types of comments and then they might have fewer disparaging comments about their CAD tools. Jim should be able to select his line, start moving it, hit the tab key, type in a number and feel confident that the line move that far in a perpendicular direction. I really don't care how CA does it, but they should do it so it as simple as possible..... maybe hit a control key or something. Careful? Nuts. When we are producing we don't want to have to think about being careful, we want to blow and go. Two more weeks until my miserable trip from Oregon down to San Diego with a broken seat spring up my wazoo.
  8. This is a very good question. It is not super clear on how to do this if I understand what Jim is saying. But, if you select a non-orthogonal line, COPY, select and start moving in a particular direction, hit the TAB, make sure it is set to POLAR, make sure your are moving in a PERPENDICULAR DIRECTION, input the DISTANCE, the new offset line will be correct. Understand you must have ANGLE SNAPS ON so it moves PERPENDICULAR, but it is possible to do what KT is talking about. Jim was not very clear on why he could not do it, but I think I can do it, but you must know the ifs ands or buts. Jim, if you still do not understand how to do it, make a quick vid showing why it won't work and then I will do a quick vid on why it will work. Definetly not perfect, but doable.
  9. Well, I may stand corrected. So you get an acad file that has topo lines and these lines have an elevation assigned to the topo lines, I do not understand how CA will understand these lines have a terrain elevation assigned to them, but if they do and CA can recognize the elevations, this is super...... I think. I am sure CA has a video explaining this process, does anybody know where it is?
  10. You guys must understand what you can and cannot do. You cannot import the 3D TERRAIN. All you can do is import the CAD LINES that represent topo lines and then you must trace those lines and assign an elevation to them. As Barton eluded to, you must be specific as to what you want to do and what you are specifically having problems with...... \
  11. This was interesting. I think you uncovered a bit of a bug. The question is, suppose you wanted a wall to connect the deck to the house. The deck on left can be attached, no problem. The deck on right cannot be attached to house..... unless you put a separation between the two deck rails that abut each other and run up and down the page. IOW, your plan works fine as long as you separate the two deck rails that run parallel and abut each other. A 1/2" separation is all that is needed.
  12. I'm not sure if anything you said is correct. I think you are making it far more complicated than it is. Someone may disagree with me, but there is nothing you said that I could concur with Maybe somebody else would like to elaborate..
  13. Just rebuild the roof but without the holes, that is probably where the problem is.
  14. For me the biggest reason to relate topo to CA is to avoid the mathematical gymnastics I must go through if I am designing two buildings on a steep lot. It is much quicker to determine elevation differences if the elevations are relative to building 1 versus an outside benchmark. Think about it.. And I don't know what the big deal is. Why won't CA throw in that option. They could probably throw this together during their lunch hour.
  15. LOL I think they do have a trailer for the horse that the Yukon will pull. So they have a 4 year old Mercedes and a 17 year old Yukon with a broken air conditioner and springs popping through the driver seat, guess which one I will be driving. In fact Dave doesn't think the Yukon can make the trip, so we are going to take the 101 in lieu of the quick drive down the 5, just in case the Yukon breaks down. It would be my luck we would be driving through rush hour traffice at 5:15 in the afternoon in LA when the darn thing breaks down. I would coast over to the shoulder and the dogs would have to "spend a penny", the parrot wouldn't shut up, the horse will be spooked by the cars honking at me and a spring from the driver's seat would of found an uncomfortable spot up my wazoo. Boy, am I looking forward to this trip.
  16. Video here if interested. Nothing special, killing time. http://youtu.be/J2uBDzg9Yiw
  17. This is so true. Sometimes we think we are saving money but actually we are losing money. So my Mom and her Husband are moving back to San Diego after 10 years in Oregon. They have two cars to bring down along with a horse, four dogs, 3 cats and a parrot....... all in two cars. Now they are older than Joe Carrick..... which puts them at about 137 years old. My Mom can barely see, she has broken her back several times falling off her horse, and she can't lift her arms above her shoulder. Being the wonderful son that I am, I insisted on flying up there and driving one of the cars and they can drive the other. If I fly on Friday, it will cost $312.00. But if I fly on Thursday, the day before, it will cost only 247.00. A savings of 65.00.... nice savings. Of course I will not be working Thursday, which at my 10.00/hour rate times 8 hours means I lose $80.00 to save 65.00. I ain't that dumb........ I am flying out on a Friday.
  18. Just post the plan and we will figure it out for you...... holy kamoly
  19. You did not try everything... remember this, that is not an individual flat ceiling plane, it is a ceiling plane from the room itself, therefore it gets its material from the room material dvx, so I went to change it, but for some reason your ROTATED material did not show in the materials list even though it was in the plan. So I made the material again rotated it. The material you are trying to change came from the room ceiling finish.
  20. I believe all manual. Auto hangers would be super.
  21. Thanks John, we all appreciate hearing from you guys on issues like this.
