Give me a minute and I'll upload the "original DWG" i use as the floorplan baseline, *plan file, with layers I add, as well as the PDF where I'm seeing some issues with method you advised on. Would love to figure this out, because it has been a monumental PITA for me for a long time.

If you like you can PM that to me or if it is not private info you can post it here so others with the same issues may learn something as well.

Only issue I see, and a common one for all PDF's in Chief, is line weights pretty much all need to be 1, or they are crazy looking in PDF version (way too "fat"). What works fine within Chief, or even DWG fails in PDF with any higher line weights. Never understood why that was, but with mechanical drawings I do all the time, on commercial projects, has always been that way.

That should not be happening. Are you currently using X7 ?  You might want to post a plan file Backed Up from Layout... "Backup Plan Files and All Referenced Files"  ( Layout and settings )

Something is definitely messed up in your setup with the plan and layout sync.

Chopsaw's method. Easy enough to export out of Chief as DWG, but from TrueView I can't "export". Is there even an export option in TrueView, or is it just Plot?

Have a look at the "Batch Plot" options > Publish Options > Include Layer Information.

  4. There are a series of tools on your active toolbar that will work for that sort of operation depending on the exact situation. For that particular problem you posted I would likely use the "Extend" tool.  The "Trim" or "Mitre" and "Lap" tools can also be quite handy as well.

When I added the same image to the bump map and then checked "inverted" it reduced the visibility of the OSB slightly, not 100% sure if that's what you're asking though.

Just wanted to clarify if both layers were using the exact same settings...  If you made a copy of the existing layer with the inverted bump map or got a stock material file from the library.  I am not much of a materials guy but like to see the software working correctly and be user friendly. :)

Okay, I got a makeshift work-around to get it to visibly work but not sure if it will mess with anything.

In the roof surface I added a 2nd exact replica of the black standing seam

Great work !   Unfortunately it will really mess up your material list but you might be able to work with that as long as you are aware.

It would be good to get to the bottom of the issue though.  Do you have one inverted and one regular bump map ?

Perhaps @CADustin could comment if this is a material issue or a rendering problem that should be sent to tech support.

  7. Yes absolutely.  You can draw on one and have 3D on the other or a window for ALDO, LB, PB, etc with a 3D or elevation view or even reference material or another program..   But be careful you don't get carried away or you will want 3 screen like me.  I sometimes have 4 live views running simultaneously. :)

Thanks - I'm happy to do so  - not sure how to do that - the plan is 250mb.   Is there a way to strip it down to the essentials or a place that this site uses for those files?

That might be difficult to strip down to 14 MB without making a mess.  Just upload to your cloud account and post the link here so we can download it.

  9. You can go and change your Material Default after the fact but that would be the long way to do it for sure. Not that the half post is the first detail that you would logically think about. ;)

I guess I don't understand why you wouldn't also be seeing the "top" of the terrain at the point closest to you, if it is sloping away, but the mind of Chief is beyond me :) I will make the suggestion. Thanks.

That would certainly solve the problem.  It should at least generate a clip or section line and I think it would make a lot more sense to most people.

Chopsaw, I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean - if I take a section perpendicular to the contours, why would I be looking at the underside of the terrain?

If you cut a section of a natural terrain condition it is quite likely that you will have some "ground" that slopes away from the camera and some that slopes toward the camera.  If it is sloping toward the camera you should see a continuous section line.  If it is sloping away from the camera it will appear transparent since you are looking at the underside of the surface. Try it on a simple slope with a camera facing each way.

  12. I will assume that the image in the camera view is tiny.  This is usually a result of a very wide or tall model or some small object that has been placed or lost out to the side a long long way.  You can often find the object by using the "fill window" tool and then slowly turning off layers until the view is "normal" and then isolate the layer and use "fill window" again.  If you have a lot of items on the isolated layer you may need to move the known items to a temporary layer.

It is a bit of a process sometimes so if you have difficulty you can always post the plan file and one of the experts can help.
