Channel Cabinets and parts for Singndance
Joe_Carrick replied to MarkMc's topic in Symbols and Content
Not the same thing at all. The "C" and "J" channels are actually recessed into the cabinet behind the doors and drawer fronts.- 6 replies

Channel Cabinets and parts for Singndance
Joe_Carrick replied to MarkMc's topic in Symbols and Content
I just add a separation at the locations I want for the C & J channels. Then I adjust the overlay of the door and drawer fronts accordingly. It's not perfect because the separation isn't really recessed the additional amount of the channels - but it looks pretty good in 3D views as long as the cabinet color is darker than the doors and drawers.- 6 replies

Reference Layer Sets ???
-
Thank you !!!!!

Would someone remind me how to prevent a ceiling/soffit surface from showing below a cantilevered balcony? I'm sure I've done it before but now I can't even find where the material is being specified or what layer it's on in a perspective camera view. I've checked all my structure and floor finish definitions and I just can't figure it out. It's like a ceiling plane that shouldn't be there.

Custom dishwasher symbols not inserting into cabinets
Joe_Carrick replied to YoderW's topic in General Q & A
The height in the Size settings had to be reduced to account for the toe-kick. I know that seems backwards but it's the inverse of the symbol height vs cabinet front height without the toe-kick. -
Custom dishwasher symbols not inserting into cabinets
Joe_Carrick replied to YoderW's topic in General Q & A
Here's my version. Symbol Name is "Low Cost DW4. I basically did the same thing Eric did but my settings are probably a little different than his. Low Cost DW-JC.calibz Note that generally DW symbols in Chief don't include the toe kick as they insert into the face of a cabinet. -
If you find a material that's close, you edit it to change the scale and color. Sometimes a material will just not be quite right but close enough that it can be modified to suit.

Larry, Create a Wall Material Region (1x6) for the Batts and multicopy at 12". They will only cover the wall areas and will be accurate in both 2D and 3D and even show shadows.

How to divide up inside of tall cabinet but keep 2 tall doors
Joe_Carrick replied to sweetmelissa's topic in General Q & A
Leave off the Doors and divide up the interior of the cabinet as needed. Then add the Doors manually. ie: place the doors as freestanding objects and then move them into place. -
I found that the problem is only on my laptop. It works on my main computer. It could be a problem with the NVidea driver but that would be very strange.

Here's a link. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/15059-garage-door-wizard-update/#comment-127369 It's actually called "Garage Door Wizard"

Third party software. I think it's posted somewhere on the forums. You can download and install it on your desktop. Basically it just creates a symbol that you can import into Chief.
-
"Chiefware Garage Door Maker" does it easily.

I will send the plan to CA on Monday.

I just noticed that in the latest version I am unable to adjust the label offsets of doors, windows, cabinets, etc by using the object dbx. I can move them using the mouse but I can't edit them using the dbx. This is a bug - lost functionality. If you can do it, let me know. I've tried everything I can think of.

Probably because each jurisdiction has their own set of required calculations. It almost has to be custom.

You have 2 schedules referencing the same doors and/or windows. Find the 2nd one and delete it.

Changing Room Types for Multiple Rooms
Joe_Carrick replied to OnlineBuilder2's topic in General Q & A
I don't think so. That's not what I do. If I need different floor finishes I use a Floor Material Region. Similar for walls -
Changing Room Types for Multiple Rooms

Make the Wall to the toilet "No Room Definition". -
For my SIP Walls, I've defined them as "Framed" with 2x6 Studs @ 100' OC.I also specify a single top plate. This seems to work fairly well for the walls but I wish there was some way to have the Foam Insulation show and to have a maximum panel width with 2x_ splines (panel joints) I do have a way of labeling the SIP Walls using a custom macro. The Roof SIP's are another problem entirely. I'm thinking the best solution is a 3D Symbol.
-
How do you get SIPs to show in a 3D Framing Overview? They are structural elements but since they don't have a framing material they don't show. What trick do you use to show them?

Some great new fixes, including R-Value attribute for Wall Cavities. I'm going to start doing this and including it in my elevation wall labels. Actually the list of fixes & improvements for X11 in today's update is really nice.

Adjust the Text Style(s) in the Layers of your Plot Plan's Layerset. Check each object that has text and make sure you adjust each of these. This process is essentially the same for all scales that you are going to send something to Layout.

I suppose I could have just called the 6x12 Beams - "Rafters" - and labeled them "Exposed Beams". But then the "ceiling height" would have needed to be lower. IAE, I did model the SIP's as an integral part of the "Roof Surface" and it works pretty much the way I wanted it to.
