  1. 1. Create an indented box in 3D and assign the Tile material to it. 2. While in the 3D View convert it to a "Window Symbol" and add to the library. 3. Insert the symbol in the wall - you might have to adjust the origin and suppress casings, etc. A lot of the finer points can actually be done in the symbol dbx of the library item.
  2. Be careful about selecting a Laptop for use with larger monitors. Generally, the maximum resolution that a Laptop will support is the native resolution of the built-in monitor. That means that you'd be limited to 1920x1200, I have a Desktop and a Laptop which I keep synched so that I have my projects on both. If you can get the power worked out for a Desktop in your van then I think you should go that way. You get more computer for the money and you could probably buy an identical system for home.
  3. Jim, The scenario that you outlined for your projects is very workable. For the CDs you can send Plans, Interior Elevations, Sections, Schedules, etc from both the overall structure Plan and the Individual Unit Plans to a single Layout File. Keeping the Plan Files separate makes a lot of sense since that keeps the Plan Files relatively small and manageable.
  4. Exactly - and that way you can edit the symbol's materials, origin, etc to fix what Chief missed.
  5. Scott, In the Bonus Library there are 3D Text Symbols. Place them in your Plan and then in the Elevation View rotate each letter as needed about the "Y" axis. There's no need to create a complete string - just manipulate the individual letter symbols.
  6. I will differ from Val on this one. 1. Create a "Solid Railing Wall" using a 3/8" thick Glass Wall Type just outside of the Shower. 2. Make this wall "No Room Definition" and "No Locate". 3. Insert a Doorway and then make that a "Solid Door" (3/8" thick glass) with no Casings and No Frame. 4. Adjust the railing height and the door height. 5. Slide the railing wall into the opening.
  7. After step 2 - select Add New - then change to Crown. By selecting Crown first you are changing the designation of the base molding to a Crown Molding. That's where the problem is.
  8. You need to click the "Add" button so that there is more than one molding in the room. Otherwise, you are just redefining the existing molding.
  9. It's really best to do all CAD Editing in the Section View rather than in the Layout. It's easier since you are working at scale and all CAD work done in the Section View of the Plan will be automatically reflected in the Layout - assuming both files are open.
  10. If you open the SHP file in sketchup you can export it to 3DS which can then be imported into Chief as a symbol.
  11. Alan, I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. That said, the curved wall at the second floor doesn't align with the first floor wall - and neither does the stair itself. What is planned to be under the stair? Storage? Just enclosed space?
  12. Todd, The key to making it work is to set the height of the room polyline to1". Also make sure you set the molding to exterior (unchkeck "inside polyline").
  13. One thing that I adhere to religiously is to make all my CAD work in the Elevation Camera View. That includes Text and and extra line work such as the Line under the Title, etc. Any succh CAD done that way is automatically reflected in the Layout. I avoid using the "Edit Layout Tool" like the plague - I don't see any reason to use it at all.
  14. BTW, you can also save any Window Configuration to the Library so that you don't have to recreate it again. Then once place in a wall you can still change the type, size, arch, etc without losing other configuration parameters,
  15. Larry, You can create a molding profile and put it in the library for the Window Sill. Actually Chief provides 3 Window Sill profiles but they probably aren't the size you would want. Creating your own is easy.
  16. It's possible to restrict the Floor Cameras to the Room - but the framing is outside the room so it won't show. The other option is to only frame the walls of the room you want - or put those wall's framing on their own layer.
  17. Scott, I think what he wants - and it makes sense - is to have a standard vinyl frame window (nail on variety) like the attached pics. It can be done with the dbx but it's a bit complicated to get all the settings right. Of course once it's done it can be made the default and saved in a template. It would be nice to have a check box that would do this type of window automatically.
  18. Rich, It shouldn't make any difference. The "X" Close button and the "File>Exit" menu items are undoubtedly using exactly the same code to exit the program. This is typical for almost all Apps. The only exception would be if an App didn't include the "X" Close button. The code involved askes if you want to save and then closes all files and Application Windows. In most Apps that require a Log-In the code will also log the user out - Chief doesn't do that.
  19. Todd, Try Centering the Page. If that doesn't do it then uncheck "Show Page Boundary". It's all in the Printer Page Setup.
  20. That can be changed by setting a stretch plane at x=3 for the library symbol. You would need to copy the symbol to your user library to do that.
  21. Check the Library for Cabinet Doors. I'm sure you'll find something - if not then just create a new Cabinet Door Symbol.
  22. Antoine, Try setting the object as "Front Group", not just "Front of Group".
  23. You could also make those changes in a 3D Framing View.
  24. I use reference text macros to label stairs. Using Ruby to retrieve the stair data and format the text provides me with a very complete & accurate description of them and includes the up arrow.
  25. To use the +/- for trailing dimension text - hold down the alt key and type 0177 on the numeric keypad.
