Ca Is Showing Mistakes That The Architect Didn't See In Revit
Alaskan_Son replied to Electromen's topic in General Q & A
No one here but you knows all the people involved and all the little intricacies of the situation, but based on what you've said, I can't imagine any benefit to saying anything at this point. If you think there's a particular reason to say something or that something good could come from it, great, speak up. If not, I say just leave it alone. -
Sounds like maybe a bad wall connection. Perhaps you should attach the plan.

Just make sure "Blend Colors With Materials" is OFF.

This Is Big News In The Future Of Bim/cad As We Know It.
Alaskan_Son replied to 4hotshoez's topic in General Q & A
I for one hope it doesn't. Stay the course Chief. You have something special and I think it will become even more so as the "Big Dogs" continue to "progress". Just improve what you already do so well and continue to add new features without selling out. Just my thoughts. -
Just delete everything except the problem area and attach that.

You betcha sir : )

Mark, I just checked out the issue you're talking about. It looks like the dimensions aren't snapping to the edge of the CAT 5 symbol in plan, they're snapping to the center of the 2D block assigned to that symbol which is the reason for the discrepancy. As far as I can tell the only way to fix it is to create a new block without the words "CAT 5" or with those words centered on the little triangle symbol.

Red Rectangle ? Does Anyone Know What It Means?
Alaskan_Son replied to jessde's topic in General Q & A
Jess, I can't be certain, but I'm pretty sure the reason you got a negative point in the thread you mentioned is because you didn't seem to appreciate the help you were getting . Someone asked you to to post the plan...no plan and no response, someone asked you another question...no response to that, and then you marked it as solved by just starting over without having actually learned how or why, and without having utilized the help you were seeking. When a person does something like that it seems a little like..."Why did they even ask if they weren't going to listen?" and it can be very frustrating when there's no response when people are donating their own time and expertise to try and help you. -

Red Rectangle ? Does Anyone Know What It Means?
Alaskan_Son replied to jessde's topic in General Q & A
I suppose you don't care about anyone's reputation in "the real world" either? And that you don't ask for referrals or recommendations before hiring people? And I'm guessing that means you don't believe in reading product reviews or ratings before purchasing things? I'm assuming you also think that taking architectural advice from some first time designer is just as good as getting it from Frank Lloyd Wright too eh? -

So, I stand corrected. I guess it didn't resize properly for me afterall. I guess I only looked at the dbx numbers and not the actual drawing so much. Here's what I get... If I open a new plan, draw a wall, place the fixture on the wall, and resize it to say 1" x 1" x 1", all is well as far as the dbx numbers are concerned. The 3D preview is definitely wrong but the numbers stick. I click okay and then open the fixture again...numbers are still good (preview is still wrong though). I can open and close as many times as I want and the numbers will remain 1"x1"x1". As soon as I open a 3D view though, the height will revert as the rest of you have stated. After I open the 3D view, the numbers will revert every single time...even once the 3D view is closed. In other words, there is definitely a problem with the fixture, but the problem changes a bit once a 3D view is created. Very buggy.

Resizes just fine for me. Do you have "Retain Aspect Ratio" unchecked?

One downside to the platform method to be aware of is that it may mess up your cabinet schedule. Nothing wrong with the method and its how we still build euro style cabinets anyway, but its something to think about.
-
I could be wrong but I think the OP is looking for a flat side at the range and a toe kick on the opposite end. Like this...
-
You got me curious so I started messing around with it a bit. My conclusion... I think the best solution is to do as I stated above and create a little skinny cabinet, suppress its label, don't include it in the cabinet schedule, and then simply put it on its own layer and turn that layer off. Don't make any other adjustments.
-
Depending on how accurate you need your cabinet plans to be, you can... Create a very thin cabinet next to the range (maybe 1/16" wide) with the standard toe kick. Then the cabinet next to it should behave as you want. Your dimensions might be a little funny though. You could help address that by decreasing the size of the main cabinet by the same 1/16" (possibly even decreasing the size of the stile on the range side as well). If your dimensions are rounded off to the nearest 1/4" it shouldn't matter too much.

I think perhaps you have the wrong idea about what Chief will do for you as a tool. Chief won't meet any of the above requirements for you. It will just help YOU draw the plans and meet those requirements. Physical aptitude for hand drawing aside, if you don't have the knowledge and expertise to produce a set of code compliant or Title 24 compliant plans by hand then Chief isn't going to do you any good. It will help you produce a nice looking and useful 3D model and make producing plans EASIER, but it won't produce plans for you. That is all on you (the designer).

I usually have AT LEAST 2 plans...As built and Remodel, although whenever there is a notable change in the remodel design I do a Save As and give the plan a new name so I can always look back or revert to an older idea if necessary. It usually ends up looking something like this... Smith Residence As Built.plan Smith Residence Kitchen.plan Smith Residence Kitchen 2.plan Smith Residence Kitchen 3.plan Smith Residence Kitchen 3.layout Smith Residence Permit Plans.pdf Smith Residence Cabinetry.layout Smith Residence Cabinet Layout.pdf And any number of detail layouts and PDFs for specifics tasks or subcontractors

HC's method works great, but Jon's method has some added benefits. You simply save "temporary" copies of the plan, SPECIFICALLY for your 3D views and nothing more. Deleting all the excess can make renderings much faster.
-
Why not just save a separate plan specifically for the view you want and delete the garage entirely? I guess it might help to see how this garage is built. Just a suggestion, but attaching a plan or picture might help.

Use the "Rotate" handle. Looks like a triangle floating a little ways out from the symbol once you select it.

Thank you Doug. I ran a file cleaner and deleted all the unnecessary stuff. There appeared to be about about 30 or 40GB of temporary files. I also ran the defragmenting utility but that didn't seem to be the problem. After doing all that, I opened up a plan and it appears to be back to its normal blindingly fast speed again :-) Thank you sir. And thanks to the rest of you for your input as well.
-
What exactly are you experiencing when trying to upload a plan? After clicking on "Browse", are you making sure to click on "Attach This File"?
-
Thanks for the input, however what makes this current issue unique is that it seems to have nothing whatsoever to do with 3D and happens even in a brand new blank plan with only the plan view open. If I create a 3D view it seems to have little to no effect on the lag time between actions (or commands). To answer one of your questions though...my laptop confuses me a bit. It acts like it has a SSD but according to the literature it doesn't. It apparently has a 5200 RPM HD but I never hear anything "spinning" and it starts up almost instantly (just a matter of seconds usually). The bigger point though is that it's a new issue...my desktop used to be MUCH faster and it appears to have nothing at all to do with 3D performance. I guess I'm assuming the video card doesn't have much to do with performace in plan view.
