  1. At the risk of stating the obvious... If absolute perfection isn't necessary, have you considered just finding similar furniture and modifying the size and material settings instead of drawing everything from scratch?
  2. Just one man's opinion, but I think they've done the right thing. They've set it up to work more like wall and room definitions where multiple layers can be assigned. I think it makes for better organization and stability under the structure tab where they have it now.
  3. OR...Open Symbol>Symbol Name The Description field in the Components dbx gets it's information from the Symbol Name field in the Symbol Specification dbx which in turn is tied to the library name (the latter 2 are one and the same) -If you change the Description field, it has no affect on the symbol name or the name of the library item. -If you change the Symbol name after the symbol has been placed in the plan, it will automatically change the Description field but unless you add the re-named symbol to the library, the symbol in your library will remain unchanged. -If the item is added to your user library, any changes made inside the library (either through the library browser itself or by changing the symbol name in the symbol dbx) will affect the other 2. So...it really depends on what your overall goal is. -If its a one time thing, change either the Description field or the Symbol Name, don't see why it would make much of a a difference. -If you want to use it again in the future and want the symbol name and description column to match, just change the Symbol Name and add it to your user library. -If you want to use it again in the future and want the symbol name and description column to remain different, modify the Description and add it to your user library.
  4. You could save us a lot of guesswork and likely get a quick and accurate answer by attaching the plan file.
  5. I never use Chief's auto dimension tools. With the possible exception of Auto Exterior Dimensions, they simply require more work than it's worth in my opinion. I just use manual dimensions. Having said that, Chief definitely has issues with dimensions in elevation in general no matter what tools you use.. It's probably at or near the top of my personal list for things that need FIXING (as opposed to a feature request or an improvement). Sometimes the dimension tool will snap properly and sometimes it won't, and sometimes it will randomly snap to an object 10 ft. away.... It's not uncommon for me to resort to using point to point dimensions because I simply cannot get something to snap. Anyway, That's it for my rant...I would recommend just using manual dimension tools.
  6. YIKES!!! NASA testing facilities? A replacement for the Pentagon?
  7. You could also possibly just create a room with a very short ceiling above your porch to avoid redoing it. That or a ceiling plane and a manually built attic wall, or a polyline solid and an attic wall, or...
  8. When your plan is too big too attach, just do a Save As and delete all the unnecessary stuff.
  9. If you attach the plan you'll get a much more accurate answer.
  10. Open that porch room and under the structure tab, make sure to check "Ceiling Over This Room". If you have auto rebuild attic walls toggled on, that should be all you need to do. If not, you'll have to go up a floor and actually build a wall manually and designate it an "Attic Wall".
  11. There's a Theater Objects bonus library you could check out. You can also search the Sketchup 3D Warehouse, I'm sure they have something in there.
  12. My random thoughts for what they're worth. -First instinct and reaction... This is an ill-advised move. Very little benefit at the cost of putting off a lot of faithful users. -Second thoughts...For what Chief offers, they may be pound for pound the lowest priced architectural software out there right now and with all the requests we're constantly throwing out for new features, I have fully expected that Chief would eventually have to raise their prices... -...not the least of which are commercial/industrial/BIM type changes, which made me wonder if perhaps Chief is just exploring ways to make those people who really want/need those features to pay for them so all the rezzy (residential) guys don't have to pay for things they don't need. -Third thoughts. NO, this is irritating and really rubs me the wrong way. One of the things that makes Chief unique is their all-in-one package. If you buy the full/premier version you get everything in one software. Nothing else to buy, no extra libraries to pay for, no add-on modules, no third party rendering software necessary, no plug-ins, etc. I would really hate to see that change. -Final thoughts...I hate to say it, but I would much prefer to see a price hike in the cost of the software and SSA rather than a nickel and diming type approach. I for one realize that we get what we pay for and with all that we ask for as a group I know we'll eventually have to end up paying more. I'm not so naive as to think if we want all the features out there that we won't eventually end up paying what people are paying now for Revit, ArchiCad, AllPlan, Vectorworks, or even Softplan. If we want/need the extra features, suck it up guys and stop pissing and moaning every time Chief raises their prices a little. Otherwise, stop asking for things we don't really need. Bottom line IN MY OPINION...if you need to raise revenue, do it through the price of the software itself and not by nickel and diming us. I want to pay once and have the whole package.
  13. I've only been able to replicate this behavior by placing part of my model way far away from the rest.
  14. To reiterate what the guys above offered as solutions... You simply didn't have any walls to display. You needed to build them.
  15. I would personally probably go with the polyline solid method and convert it to a material region for the issue with the top riser.
  16. I for one can't tell what I'm looking at or what you're talking about. Can you attach the plan?
  17. Hmmm... That's a tuffy. I think the dormers are flush with the walls below too. They might stick out a little past the chimneys, but I think it's only the exterior cladding and molding.
  18. You bet! Glad I could help :-)
  19. It's not available for all objects but seems to be available for most. Only becomes available once you select the first object.
  20. I use the Match Properties tool for exactly what you are talking about all the time. It has a lot of uses, but I primarily use it as a selection tool.
  21. Agreed. Over 200 hours doesn't sound too unreasonable for the project you've described... Especially if you start needing interior furnishings and decorations, renderings, etc. Custom projects can be incredibly time consuming from a design standpoint and if you're like me and like your 3D model to be comprehensive and accurate...it can take that much longer.
