  1. I fixed my issue and it is due to X12 having the added ability for background color for the fill. Before, concrete had the white solid background built-in. Now, this needs to be added in separately so it would hide the block at the garage door (because I cannot figure out how to build the foundation in this area properly)
  2. Drawing Group, does very similar to drawing order and should solve your problem. You can also adjust the transparency of the fill. Although, I may be having a similar issue with a slab and foundation walls, that I cannot fix...
  3. I am also a structural/civil engineer and I have always associated plate height with structural steel. But as long as the guy swinging the hammer understands...
  4. Top of stud wall (plate) and rough ceiling are the same thing. On this particular project, it is a remodel, so the framer needs to match existing elevations.
  5. OK, so today I learned that Legacy is just a fancy term for obsolete. See, I do know how to search I have numerous macros, from others and some I wrote. Has there been any enhanced documentation regarding what "migrating" is going to do to my macros and what I can expect? Or how to fix issues? Is this going to put the brakes on my workflow? I know enough to write small macros for menial tasks, but I do not have an extended knowledge. Or is this just not a big deal?
  6. Please do NOT apologize and please do not stop asking questions. I think long-time users forget that this is an extremely complicated and in-depth piece of software. I get frustrated with the answers I sometimes get on a question I ask because some people like to insinuate I am stupid because I was not aware of a toggle buried 3 layers deep in dialog boxes. I also think people forget that when something goes wrong with Chief that it usually occurs at a bad time. I know most of the issues I have cause me a great deal of stress when I am on a deadline. 9 times out of 10, it is a very simple fix that I just was not aware of.
  7. Not sure if this was an issue in X11, but in X12, I added "FIELD VERIFY" to Trailing Text under Segments and it also added "FIELD VERIFY" into the extension next to the elevation. Fortunately, in this case, that is fine, but maybe an issue in the future.
  8. Very strange, I cannot replicate this now. Before no matter what (anno/default set) I selected in Currently using, it would revert to say Active Defaults, but all the selected defaults below that were correct for what I was choosing. I will video this if it happens again...
  9. Well, it wasn't earlier! Ugghhh, I was so sure I had an issue I had my IT department (my son) load software to record a video. I get home and it is behaving properly. If (or should I say when) I come across it again, I will record it so I can demonstrate I am not losing my mind.
  10. Curious if I am missing something or if this is correct in using the "New Default Sets" that have replaced annosets. No matter what I select under the drop down, it always says "Active Defaults" under Default Set. The name of my Default Set (old anno) will not display. I think I have to open the Saved Plan View Specification to verify what the specific individual Selected Defaults are. Has anyone messed with his enough to clarify this so I know how to address moving forward?
  11. I find this very useful for plans on a layout. If the first and second floor are on the same sheet, it is the easiest way for me to make sure the walls are aligned visually across the page, copy slide and change the saved view!
  12. THANK YOU!!! That one was stressing me out a bit.
  13. Thank you, that seems to be the best solution and I like that. (I had not seen any posts on X12 yet, so did not start a new thread)
  14. X11 had objects to include. It would be very helpful if you told me how you separated outdoor/indoor fixtures rather than just show a picture that it is possible.
  15. I have searched this forum numerous times for topics I KNOW I have seen in the past never to find them again... I'm not sure how the search engine here works, but even searching that does not point me in the right direction.
  16. Framing and Wall Schedules: No longer have the ability to choose by checkbox what items are included in the schedule? In the past, I only have used the schedule for beams and posts, I absolutely do not want to give the contractor a quantity of joists, etc. That is his job. As for the wall schedule, the same thing. I usually have a bunch of existing walls that I do not need to show on this and I can no longer find where to just toggle those off. Not able to have a Fixture schedule separate for inside and out? Am I missing something or do I need to turn off "Show in Schedule" for each item or show them off in a default? Trimmers and Cripples? Are those even in a default somewhere?
  17. Who stole "Copy and Paste in Place"? I created a stand-alone toolbar for it. Can't get it to go in the existing toolbar.... X12 seems to run much faster in plan view. Jury thinks it is slower in Layout, verdict not in yet.
  18. The front door should face the bottom or right side of the page. Same with text, always read from the bottom or right side, because the left side is stapled... North arrow is not really relevant to floor plans. Let the civil engineers worry about that.
  19. 1. What are you guys scaling? A 3/4" detail, is a 3/4" detail. Maybe I am just to old school to remember when we drew a detail on a sheet of paper that was that. And our hand-drawn sheets looked just as organized then and we did not have the ability to move stuff around. 2. In X12, it sounds like we can have a .layout file with all the details sent to the detail.layout and you could just copy the layout box with all the info to your working layout? Maybe I should hold off on my detail warehouse...
  20. I'm catching up, making sure I have terminology correct.
  21. So the consensus is to use a single plan file with multiple (100's) CAD details. This is basically where I think I am heading although I would put numerous details in a "CAD Detail", i.e. group them.
  22. Assuming you mean add to Library....? (If so, what does that do to the speed of the library?)
  23. Not now, LOL!!! I have ALL my details on one plan sheet, and I keep finding duplicates that I had redrawn. My thought process is to group them and then scroll through a much smaller group.
  24. I understand the CAD details part. I am thinking somewhere in the middle though. Whether it be a CAD detail or floor, not sure which is best, but grouping them such as Eave Details, Floor System Details, Foundation Details, etc. Sending "current screen" is OK with me. I literally have over 20 eave details that I use, truss/no truss; exposed rafters/not exposed, brick/no brick, etc.
  25. Can you further explain that? Where do these individual details go.....?
