  1. Now, this is brilliant. Create a "Saved Plan View" for foundation details, wall details, etc, and put different category details on different floors.... .... My current warehouse details are a Nightmare!
  2. @Alaskan_Son has parts, pieces and a video for bar joists that work very well. I just do not seem to be able to find them.
  3. I think Saved Plan Views work great. I can use the same annotation set with a different layer set. It has made my demo plans much more simple being able to reference my as-built plan. I have set up the demo where it basically draws itself, I just have to add notes. I reference my existing plan with a layer set that has almost every layer as a red dashed line. If a red dashed shows up, it gets demoed. Then I get to use the note tool (which could use a few tweaks). Saved Plan Views also make my Layouts look more professional and less chaotic. I can copy the layout from a sheet and paste in place on the next sheet, open the object and change the same plan view, easier and quicker than sending to layout. Works well when reusing a specific layout on another job, just re-link the layout box and done. When I or the client scroll through the pdf, everything is in the same place. Cannot imagine reverting back and not using Plan Views.
  4. I think my best option is to spend a day and get these defaults the way I want them. These specific defaults are a good one to overwrite, so...in my spare time....
  5. I got it to work with the air gap on the inside, but had the ceiling set back the distance of the air gap. I will try it on the outside, Thanks.
  6. It did get rid of the extra slab on the left side, but if I check "Floor Supplied by Foundation Room Below", it removes the wood floor system and only allows a slab, which still leaves me with this extra slab showing under the floor system. The extra footing is gone also. Thank you.
  7. Is there any way to adjust the upper wall of a pony wall to extend out further? My only thoughts have been to add a airspace or non-visible layer on the inside of the wall. If I add the required width with a new material layer "air gap", it messes with the ceiling which I can get around if need be. Any other solutions I am not aware of.
  8. Correction: I am putting the basement floors on Level 1! Good or Bad?
  9. Trying to learn how this all works, and I am having some issues with this foundation. I am working on a test plan to make this work, so I can save it for future reference and use on this project that has been approved by the historic district and I am now putting into production. I faked most of this stuff for the preliminary. This is a little quirky as it is in Atlanta’s historic district and requires the brick veneer at the foundation level. The lower level, I have a part slab and part framed. On the main floor, I will have a crawl space under the front portion. I have had quite a few issues with this, but have worked most out on my own using the resources here. So, I have a few questions: 1. What is the consensus for putting the basement level on “0” or “1”? I know there has been talk about it in the past. I was just always putting basements at the foundation level and that has messed me up on a few jobs, but generally works. On this one I am putting the basement at "0" because of the slab/framed floor, but then I have the upper crawl space area. 2. I am getting extra slabs being generated. 3. My foundation is going to require 2 plans to show all the information, or I just show cad lines on the main foundation level “0” for the “Foundation Plan”, any suggestions? 4. The pony wall is unique in that I need to have the top part of the walls siding come out far enough to clear the face of the brick wall below. I will probably post a second thread for that. If this is not as simple as I am hoping, I am more than willing to go through it with someone who understands what is going on and compensate you for your time. After years of using this program and not using it to it's full ability I am bound and determine to learn all I can. temp.plan
  10. I am definitely paying for not setting this up right from the beginning, but when I started using this I had no idea how it worked. I worry about replacing existing defaults writing over something I have already fixed/changed to work the way I want it to.
  11. I am trying to do some house cleaning and created a new annotation set, saved the file and removed all the other annotation sets except the one I needed and exported it. The goal was to be able to import this and just have this imported. I started to import to a different older plan file and had 2 unacceptable results depending on how I chose the options. Overwrite and Replace checked deletes all the other anno sets in the plan file, ALL OF THEM! Just Rename checked and every Callout, Text, Rich Text, Arrow, Marker, etc default I have gets duplicated. I am not sure what kind of damage Replace Defaults would do to an older file. I did go in and delete all the text styles defaults except the new one, and that did solve those duplicating. I used the search term "import annotation" and did get this. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-01167/setting-up-a-custom-annotation-set-and-importing-it-into-another-file.html They are starting from a "new plan" but they do not address the import options. I am hoping there is a simple answer as, after years of using this program, I have added several annotation sets I want to use on other drawings. I am trying to assemble a productive plan template and I keep hitting roadblocks.
  12. Just a few things that have helped me to start organizing my "User Library" Move an item to the top of the list to put in a folder, temporarily rename with a "0" (zero) before the item name and it takes to the bottom of the folders and is easier than trying to drag all the way to the top. I also do that now when creating a Library item, I change the name to "0 Glass Door" and then it puts it at the bottom of my folders, drop it in the correct location and rename. I am also renaming my folders with a numeric value so they are in the order I want them in: "1 Plan Notes and Labels" "2 Layout Notes and Labels"
  13. If there is a trick to get Chief to include the actual notes on the right, next to the schedule, please share. I have drawn boxes, used the "shift" trick to no avail. When the schedule AND the actual notes are selected, Chief will not let me make a block or library item.
  14. Tried that, I have been trying to get better organized and on my list today was to get the demo stuff set up and stumbled on this small (but annoying issue)
  15. I was hoping there might be a workaround to save this as a Library Object similar to using the "Shift Key" for text boxes. I think I am just going to have to save it as a .plan file and copy/paste. Is there something I am missing? Demolition Schedule.plan
  16. Yes, I understand how to do 2D drafting, for almost 40 years. The reason I asked this question originally, is that 9 times out of 10 when I have an issue with Chief it is usually a simple "toggle" somewhere I am missing. In order to "fix" this for a "three-dimensional model" and work in both Elevation View and 3D views properly, it takes just a little bit longer than 40 seconds. Now that I have wasted several hours coming to that conclusion I know that is an issue I will need to contend with going forward.
  17. All my drawings are 24X36, I create a full-scale pdf and then send to my 11x17 printer for check prints and they are very readable.
  18. It is an issue on elevations if there is a wall on the otherside.. Probably be easier to tell the contractor to slap some plywood on the back and paint it
  19. If I wanted to draw everything by hand I would still be using AutoCad or just get the board out of the closet.
  20. I looked at some of my older jobs and it use to produce the correct result. It may not be a "Bug" per se, but it is incorrect although draw a stair, change the material of the underside to "air gap" and spin it 360 degrees. That is a bug. I do not have the time (nor should I have to) do all these little various extra things the program should be doing. Bunch of "little" issues add up to a lot of time. It is what it is.
  21. Awesome, any reduced fee for an upgrade? If I were to start using this, how much is it going to mess up the previous version, i.e. will this overwrite previous macros? Also noticed on the table both Property Area and Setback/Buildable area have a "_" in front, can that go away? As for floor designations, any other way to show the floor other than ".1" or ".2", this may confuse reviewers or is this from the layer name? I would prefer it to use the info from the layer. The previous version has been awesome so I am very interested.... (I am sure I will have more questions)
  22. That made the stringers disappear and if you rotate in 3d view, the side appears and disappears as you rotate. Very odd.
  23. If that is the only answer then this would be a bug.......
