  1. While we are on this subject I have a question, for my everyday work I have an Asus 28" monitor for the plan, a hp 22" that I keep my lib, layer displan options and project browser on, and a vizo 46" tv that is setup in the corner of my office with a HDMI cable for when clients come to view the plans on which is a duplicate of what is on my Asus screen here comes the problem when duplicating my screen the floor plans don't show up very well on the 46" tv but when I put overviews or elevation views they look great, is there some setting I am missing. I was thinking of switching out the 46" for a 32" but if this doesn't help there is no need to do that Thank in advance
  2. Thanks for the info I will give it a try
  3. The crazy thing is after leaving it turned off all night I started it about 10:30 this morning for a meeting with clients at 11:00 am and it has been running since with no shutdowns ever since and I just checked it know, will try and see when it shuts down again, what a crazy thing when you need to get the work done, using this laptop is ok but I like the bigger screen and dual monitors
  4. Perry it's a desktop and when I changed the power supply I cleaned the whole unit and all fans were working there are a couple fans in the unit and all holes are open and clean
  5. Thanks Chopsaw will give that a try in the morning
  6. Thks DJP guess that is the next things to look for at this point it is hope and poke unless someone else has had an experience like this
  7. I have been having trouble with my computer lately shutting down at different times, sometimes it would run all day and sometimes it would just shutoff, my computer guy thought it might be the power supply so he ordered me a new one and I installed it today and it still shuts down, turned it on and it would shut down let it sit for a while and turn it on and it would run for about a half hour then shut down, let it sit and start and would run for about an hour, the power supply is a Corsair CX750M 750W MODULAR TYPE and still no difference, has anyone else had this problem them with there’s and knows what could be causing this. Thank you
  8. This is one of the reasons Chief needs a total revamp of the stairs so we have more control over them
  9. Jim looking at your example using only one studded wall doesn't let and room for any electrical or hvac items in those walls, with doing the double studs with the shaft wall between let the builder put these there without compromising the integrity of the fire wall
  10. Joe yes that is the way they do it frame one unit add shaft wall then frame the next unit shaft wall again and continue on, this way the inspectors consider them to be all separate units
  11. Joe the floor platforms are handled as separate area with the shaft wall being continuous from the foundation wall up to under the roof sheathing, we do full foundations here so the foundation wall be it 10” poured conc. Then the shaft wall starts on top of that, when having a basement beam it is usually a steel beam and has a post and footer at the separation conc. wall
  12. Attached is a wall I made for my townhouse projects SHAFT WALL FIRE DIVIDING FOR TOWNHOUSES.plan
  13. For the firewall I use a product called shaft wall along with 2x4 walls on each side the shaft wall which meets the fire separation fire code and the guys around here love it
  14. Wouldn't all your sides be 4'-0" which would make those dimensions in that manner or am I missing something
  15. With all of your resourse and knowledge I would tell you to dig in and draw something you want as a trial and do as Perry says set your defaults first and start drawing on the first floor anything you can think of and when you get stuck refer to the manual or video's, search this site and ask questions and just go for it, you are not going to learn everything is a day and will take alot of dedication on your part to how far you want to go, since my age caught up with me and I can do the phyical work I use to know I build them on the computer and a lot of the builders around here like that because I came from the trenches
  16. If your building supplier is to do that then that relieves a lot from you, one thing you might want to learn or get a book on the IRC codes and lookup what are the requirements for your area as far as floor and roof loads with any snow load and frost requirements
  17. With those basic requirements you shouldn't have any problems, here to by the IRC codes and have to go before a plan reviewer for approval before construction begins, I supply 4 elevations with any notes that are needed, foundation plan with requirements for my area for frost protection, floor plans, flr jsts sizes, clg jsts, and rafters, a roof framing plan, electrical plans, section details
  18. You have the knowledge and just need to take that and run, my background is like yours and I started to do design build for my clients using Chief way back in the early versions and have just grown with the program, take that knowledge, learn the program and dig in, you don't say where you are located and what is required in your area as far as plans go, the only thing I don't do for my clients which are builders and people looking to build is the heating systems which there plumber can get at the local suppliers, read the manual, view the video's, and ask questions on here these guys are great and are always willing to help, getting membership to Chief Experts and ChiefTutor has be invaluable to me for learning the program and worth the investment, also youtube has great video's on there. HTH
  19. Joe Michael video's would they be on youtube where I can find them or someplace else Thanks
  20. I have an Epson WF-7520 that works well and will print up to 13x19
  21. been awhile since I used it, try when you go to print pick winline as your printer maybe like print pdf, not to sure you might want to contact them when I used it they were very helpful
  22. Mark check out a program called WinLine, I had the same problem with my hp500 and this program which is a print driver worked for me to be able to print on the hp500 before I retired it and you might be able to download a version to test it before you buy it, http://www.winline.com/downloadv8c.html
  23. I do it from the subfloor to bottom of header on a 8' wall floor to top height is set to 83 3/8" which would represent the bottom of my header for the r.o.
