Yep, downloaded from Nvidia last night. I tried a few things in an attempt to isolate the issue: Preferences - Unselect 'Manage GPU Residency' Rendering techniques PBR - Unselect 'Refraction', remove background. Clean install of the Nvidia drivers, gaming and studio Occasionally, RTRT will work without issue, so maybe some corruption under certain circumstances. Still digging.

I've been exploring RTRT since I got the RTX 4070 Ti and settled my new PC. Running Windows 11 (22H2 22621.1413), Nvidia driver 531.41, also tried 528.24 and some older ones. A soon as open in PBR-RT, a given plan will sometimes crash even before the first sample is completed (capped at 200), sometimes after 10 or 15 and some other times it will work endlessly whatever I do (zoom in/out, pivot, etc.). Sometimes the initial PBR-RT comes up ok, but the error occurs an soon as I orbit the view or soon after. The error, always '186': RenderingPipeline.cpp(186): Error #272032750 "An internal rendering error has occurred and the program will terminate: Device Removed" 03/28/2023 03:40:28 PM Build: 24.3.0.84 Windows 64-bit I have downloaded and tried CA's Grandview plan: same issues. I have tried with a simple plan: 4 walls and roof. The error does not pop up. I seems to be tied to the complexity of the plan, but I can't reproduce the issue consistently. I also use TwinMotion with PathTracer: no problem. Still investigating, but any thoughts? Any similar experiences?

Computer Specs - Please help me select a new desktop!
ProPlan_2011 replied to RAULMAYORGA72's topic in General Q & A
I might have a different opinion than the previous posters, but here goes. My old PC had been running reliably since 2013 (!). I did introduce some SATA3 SSD's along the way. So that's 10 years. I had issues with the power supply issues lately so I thought it was upgrade time, plus I was intrigued by RTRT (more on this later). As you can hopefully see in my signature, I've upgraded to 2023. My cost: 2150 US$ equivalent before taxes. I did assemble the system myself. What's 2150$ as a tax deductible business expense, over the next 'x' years? My philosophy is go as high as the budget deems reasonable, I did that in 2013 and have no regrets. A few comments on hardware: CPU: I opted for the i7-13700f after reviewing benchmarks. For my budget, i9 (13rd gen) was too much. I looked at previous generations: the cost savings versus performance pushed me to the i7-13xxx. I acknowledge AMD has some serious processors, but that's not my religion Mem: 32GB is the sweet spot for me, but I believe that should be a minimum for anyone. I run at 50%, but I'm not seeing paging activity, so runs faster and I'm more productive. Plus I have headroom for years to come, I hope. If not, the motherboard has 2 more slots waiting to be filled. Go for DDR5 at a minimum Storage: I previously has 2 x 1TB so was inclined to upgrade accordingly. But then I looked at the delta between 1-22TB drives: +30US$ per disk (yes, it was on sale). Even with my previous 2 x 1TB, I was seeing them fill up pretty quickly, so don't skim on storage (if budget deems reasonable) Video card: I wanted the RTX 3080 but is was sold out. The RXT 4070 Ti cost me 77 US$ (+10%) more, no brainer despite the outrageous prices for these cards and it's 21% faster (depending on what is benchmarked) RTRT: as soon as I could, I fired up CA (X14) to finally see what the excitement was all about. As quickly as I had turned on RTRT, I turned it off. Not a performance issue, but I could still see noise on PBR. From my own perspective, I did not see the added value of RTRT. But then again, I didn't test much. -

I was told it would be ready in 1-2 days following the webinar. Still no email with a link.

@HumbleChief - don't have X15 yet, but coud it be that the two filters want to return elements that satisfy both filters ?

I've used Visio in the past and still do for some specific 2D drawings. By curiosity, I exported a CA project as .DWG (you do have to be specific as to the output version). I opened it in Visio (version 14): all I saw was what seemed like a graphic. On right-click, I had the option of converting 'CAD drawings'. That lasted for more than an hour. I had to leave. When I came back, Visio showed an error, so I never got the final result. Good luck.

Not bad at all, thanks!

Chief Architect for modern European architecture
ProPlan_2011 replied to Marr2000's topic in General Q & A
I agree that CA can handle NA and European structures. It's weakness is the libraries. Most often, I need to 'furnish' a designed home to have the client relate to it. But furniture, fixtures, appliances are often 'dated'. It's hard to find modern looking elements. That's where our European friends will struggle I believe. -
What did you use to render? WIsh I could live there but probably not pay for it

Have you thought of a wall niche? Your 2nd picture suggests a wall quite thick. Then you could insert a cabinet into the niche.

True, subscriptions have hurt the software industry, but as far as I know, Microsoft hasn't gone down hill because of that. Here's an alternate view. Microsoft has gone to the subscription model for its Office offering, BUT, they also offer a permanent licence model. And I think this is the best of both worlds. You want the "latest, no hassle, willing to pay whatever" ? Subscription is the way. On the other hand, you want stability of your environment (read: my licences won't go belly up at one point), then buy the permanent licence. Microsoft's strategy is to suck you into the subscription model with additional features (do you need them?) and sustained software versions as long as you pay. But they don't alienate existing license based users that need/want to keep using the product even if they don't update over time. But what if all users go the permanent licence way? No recurring revenue, right? But Microsoft will EOL support of versions of the Office package over time, so new revenues eventually from that group. Personally, I like the stability option of a permanent licence and if EOL comes up, I'll decide based on where I'm at in my business at that time. So, question: why can CA not offer the equivalent and follow Microsoft's lead ? For this to succeed, CA needs to offer advantages for both approaches, subscription and permanent license. P.S. What would be great and totally transparent is for CA to honestly explain their thinking process on their current pricing structure.

As usual, top notch, thanks. I believe your creations are now X14 only. When imported in X13, the process completes successfully, but the item is unusable in my experience. Maybe identify which version it is compatible with?- 245 replies
