that Suggest that the Samsung Driver for the 860 is not installed...at least to me... *** See above.....not being a NVME drive means it doesn't have a Samsung Driver I don't think.... Samsung Magician will also tell you exactly what is installed just don't use it to update the Firmware or use it's other gimmicks... https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/860evo/
-
Both but m2 SATA III not PCIe (NVME) , lappy must have a Combo m2 port which has M and B keys in the Slot. *** appears as if it is SATA III and in 2.5" mSATA and M@ Formats https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/860evo/
-
The model number suggest SATA III not NVME And I don't see any Samsung Storage Controllers? but maybe the Samsung Driver is not installed for the 860 and it is Using the Microsoft one.... https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820250091 The EVO 860 is also SATA III AFAIK and comes in m2 SATA or 2.5" SATA format

Make him put this one in and Clone your 1TB Drive to it and make it the Boot Drive..... ( 1TB to be Storage) https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6ZP8PC7365 with the Credit for the empty WD 500GB it shouldn't cost much if anything if you factor in his embarrassment... https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820250091

m2 isn't always NVME , some are combo Ports that can use NVME or SATA drives in the 2280 Format... But assuming you have the Strix Scar II 15" GL504GM it seems it had a NVME drive as per your sig.
-
So You have 2 SSDs neither of them NVME , both are SATA , so your system specs , don't match your Sig. The EVO is faster than the WD SSD though. You can use the 2nd Drive to run backups to or even Image the 1st drive too for emergencies..... I would have the Evo as the Storage Drive and get a 500GB 970NVME for the m2 slot....
-
Oh so you did ,
-
Both actually... but only the onboard controller is under Controllers
-
Looks like the 1TB HDD got swapped for a 1TB Sata SSD ? SDD is faster for sure but you should have a 256 NVME Disk too either that or you have 2 x 1TB drives ? 1 Sata SSD and 1 HDD (Hybrid)

I don't think Chief likes (elevated?) Macro's with Capital Letters anymore, so it changes the 1st letter to lowercase.
-
It could have Both ...nvme for the OS and the 1TB for Data/storage , many laptops do. The 1TB in your sig. is a HDD not an SSD though. https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FireCuda-Gaming-Solid-Hybrid/dp/B01IEKG484 Are you using the mini-displaport for the external monitor? Edit : forgot to say device manager should show the installed Disk Drives

HD Product? it was the lack of Plan Views and that someone has Checked the Box allowing HD to edit the plan not just View it , so I assumed the Original Designer was working with the HomeOwner at some point or taking the Owner's Plan to Permit? , but I guess it could of been done in X9 too and just shared with the Home Owner. I think this is the 2nd HD Product plan I have seen someone having an issue with Foundation being off too though...
-
Foundation must be on to see it in the Display Options, not sure why it would be unchecked in the Camera View Set (Not Foundation Wall but that too, though it was on.) looks like the plan came out of one of the HD products originally .......

Alignment of floors (levels) on layout pages - how?
Kbird1 replied to J_Ward's topic in General Q & A
This is likely what I was remembering this morning....... Michael's method isn't that difficult especially now with Plan Views etc , we can make the Layout box pretty much show us whatever we want in Plan View especially, by Opening the Layout Box Specs. and adjusting the Annotation Set or Plan View Sets , Floor etc etc ...have a look and you will see what he is suggesting. M. -
Sorry Joe , now I see what you were getting at.... no you can have an empty Sig. but if you haven't been into set one up, it is unlikely that the Option to view Signatures is On as you need to check that Forum Box in your Profile (not Avatar). I think Sigs. maybe off by default if you Use Mobile Apps to reduce the Data cost.... M.
-
It seems some new members don't see them by default , but when you setup your Own there is aa Checkbox to enable All Signatures to be View , you can later turn off individual one's if you don't want to see them. David did a Short Video that may help too.... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/18908-signature-here-at-chief-talk/?tab=comments#comment-155662

Alignment of floors (levels) on layout pages - how?
Kbird1 replied to J_Ward's topic in General Q & A
Other Way would be to add a Point to the Layout Template (Page 0 or Input Point on specific Pages) and then use Point to Point move for a certain Corner etc. M. -
I prefer Plot Lines myself and do as much as possible "In Plan" before going to Layout.... M.
-
If you can't see it , that is because you haven't done yours and enabled Signatures while doing it.... Mine is there too but a desktop.
-
Are you trying to send from a 3D Overview or similar camera view instead of a Plan or Elevation View?
-
There is lots of Info here ...but not alot on MACs.. mainly cos CA recommends Nvidia Graphics cards but they are now in MACs too. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/search/?q=Laptop recommendation&sortby=relevancy&search_and_or=and And Budget plays a big part eg have you got $1K, 2k, 3K or even 4K? Download the Trail and Start Playing.... maybe what you ave is good enough for now? doing you signature and letting people know who you are will help too ..... *** to fill in your Signature.... go up to the top RH Corner above and click on your UserName> Account Settings> Signature.... and enable Signature (will Turn Green) then add your Hardware Details and Chief Software Version, as different Version require different Answers.
-
You sure ? tried GPUz yet ? ......most 1080 have 8GB ...I thought..... either way you should be good with 4GB ( CA Render Tab should show you too but it didn't always read all video Cards correctly eg my 4GB 970 GTX was seen as 3GB Cross Sections and CAD are all Lines , sometimes thousands of them depending on the Patterns ( turn them off ) which can really slow things down in CA

Only things still set to Default in the Old Plan would take on the Defaults of the New Template..... Try opening the Old Plan and Importing the Defaults from the New Template instead. If that works then also import the Annosets, Layer Sets etc from the Template too as they won't be in the Old HD Plan. M.

So you don't do any kind of backups to another HDD or an external USB or even a Flash Drive? I'd highly recommend you do as you'd lose a whole lot more if the HDD dies or you get Malware or something. Personally I use the Free Macrium Reflect version to Image the Whole HDD to and external for major issues twice a week and I also use the Free version of SyncBack to back up the My Documents folder to the Same External and a SD card in my monitor's Card Reader daily too , which also saves the Chief Data Folder by default which includes you User Library too.
