  1. Mick - you are correct. It did work. I had to set my interior/exterior materials to default. Must have gotten painted at one point. I'm getting there... I have a new issue (see attached). The siding needs to come down to meet the siding on the existing part of the house. The floor platform in the existing part of the house is comprised of 2 x 10's. The floor platform of the deck is using 2 x 8's. The deck is lowered 2", so that the siding will align. Do I need to fill this in manually? Or could there be a "tick" for this somewhere? I tried looking into the sill without any luck. I know this framing isn't conventional, but it's exactly what the builders wants as per our phone call a few minutes ago. Thanks again for the help, Kevin
  2. Steve and Mick - thanks for the replies. I'm not sure why the siding isn't showing up. I'll post the wall type if I continue to have issues. That said - I'm not sure they will be building the structure as shown by Steve. I imagine the posts will extend all the way down to the floor platform and the siding will be attached to both sides at the bottom. Any ideas on how to do this? I know I can define the entire wall as a railing and choose "solid" for the lower portion, but this does not give me options to include the wall layers (i.e. - siding, OSB, housewrap). Any ideas?
  3. I'm designing a porch where the client wants the lower 3' to be siding on both the interior and exterior walls. The upper section will be screen. I am attempting to do this by using a pony wall (at least this is my first thought). The siding will not show up on the lower section. Also, I am concerned that using this method, it won't frame properly as the wall structure is to be 4 x 4 posts to beam with the siding applied to the bottom portion over 7/16" OSB and a wall cap. I'm sure I'm going about this the wrong way. Any advice on how to make this type of wall? Thanks, Kevin
  4. Thanks Mick. Yes, it wasn't so bad, but sure would be nice to have that purge function. Kevin
  5. Mick - thanks for the reply. The problem is I don't have any "good" plans. I have been setting up my default sets this week for various scales. I did notice that it wouldn't delete a default that was assigned to a set, however, that didn't help much as when you select all it wouldn't delete anything if just one of the items was assigned to a set. It sure would be nice to have a purge function for unused defaults.
  6. Is there a quick way to purge all defaults that aren't part of a default set? Thanks, Kevin
  7. Thanks David. Yes, I've concluded this could save me a lot of time. I appreciate the input. Kevin
  8. Wouldn't this require me to scale it again once exploded? Some of these symbols are fairly complex - would be a pain...
  9. Correct. And their training video for as-builts shows precisely what I was doing: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/362/showing-an-as-built-mask-on-a-remodel-plan.html?playlist=100 What they don't cover is the mess you end up with using blocks.
  10. Thanks Michael. I've spent the last few hours figuring about what you state above. That said, when I use the AS-Built file as a reference under my remodeled file, the fills are exploded. Attached is the as-built file shown in the plan view (just what I want) and then used as a reference in the remodeled file (problems).
  11. The shower block is problematic as I had to scale it on only one axis. The bathtub is also an issue as it was not scaled proportionately. The issue occurs in the CAD detail after sending from plan view.
  12. I am making a demo plan of an existing bathroom. I have drawn the as-built conditions and sent the plan to a CAD detail from view. I need all of my lines to be dashed and in a light gray color. I am unable to explode some of the blocks because scaling is different in X and Y. What is the best method to get around this? I have tried creating a new library symbol with the scaled symbol. I am unable to explode those too. I don't understand why it's not possible to explode a scaled symbol in CA. Maybe I am going about this entirely the wrong way and could use some tips. Thanks, Kevin
  13. Rob - thanks for the tip. This seems a much better way to go about this. Kevin
  14. Because that's what I thought I had to do to put it in my library for future use. Also, didn't realize I wouldn't be able to adjust the texture once a symbol. Still learning and appreciate all your help! Finally got the roof ridge sorted this morning! Kevin
  15. That's what I thought. Doesn't work once the object becomes a symbol.
  16. Great idea! That's what I'm going to do.
  17. That's clever. Not sure how you'd get the cap though. Thanks again for the help. I'm guessing world origin for materials changes when you change wall heights making anything with fixed UV's out of alignment. I'll have to remember to do all the detail stuff towards the end.
  18. Thanks Ryan. You're saying what I was saying. Yes, I have tried painting the symbol - no luck. I suspect Eric had to manipulate the material by adjusting material definition... I will try recreating the symbol with it in it's proper elevation and replace the existing posts.
  19. That's an older version which I have corrected. When you moved it up, did you not see that the pattern didn't align? If so, how did you correct it? You say "... with a new texture applied and aligned." Did you change the symbol or merely use the material eyedropper? I have tried these methods to no avail. Thanks for your input.
  20. They are most definitely sitting on the wall - not in it. They are symbols that I created. The brick was aligned on these symbols before I changed the height of the crawl space which is when the problem started. Could it be that the texture is now UV projected which is why it won't move?
  21. I have built some brick posts to act as newels for a porch railing system. When I first placed them, the pattern aligned perfectly with the adjacent brick walls. Many iterations to the file later and that is no longer the case as can be seen in the images below. I have tried assigning a copy of the brick pattern to these posts and moving position of the texture and the pattern won't move. I understand the global tick box under material def's to imply that the texture is projected in a cubic fashion from one fixed coordinate on all objects in the scene. Is this correct? If so, how is it possible that the placement of the brick texture has moved on my posts? How do I get things looking nice again? I swear once I get one problem solved in Chief, a slew of new ones surface as a result of this problem solving. Thanks, Kevin
  22. Think I got it now. I had some wall types other than Brick-4 and Brick-6. I deleted the foundation, changed walls to proper type, and auto-rebuilt. Thanks!
  23. Thanks Eric. Understand about auto foundation, however, when I make those changes, I now get a big mess everywhere. Should I just delete the foundation, make my walls changes, and then turn on auto-build foundation? Fortunately, I have made backup copies. Kevin
  24. Is this an alternative to what you show in the video or am I to follow the video, rebuild the foundation, and then place the vents?
