  1. It's more of the fact that my current PC is 3 years old and I am running out of space. I still crash from time to time on X13 renderings. Besides my son is patiently waiting to get my current setup for his gaming lol.
  2. Yep! Still saying December. Not much black Friday deals I see on Alienware which is no surprise.
  3. Rene, what do you mainly do with 4K stuff? Just better presentations to clients for reno's/new builds?
  4. Interesting......I never knew any of this. I do renderings straight from CA but I know what you mean on the 4K. I haven't ventured into that yet.
  5. I am about to upgrade my system for CA X13. Can anyone explain what the higher gigabytes do for the graphic cards? That is new to me. My sig shows my current setup and I am ready to spend the money on a dell alienware desktop. Any bad experiences with Dell please let me know.
  6. Last sentence is very true......you have to hustle and be willing to receive any feedback from builder's. Always keep learning more. Will there be slow times? Maybe,,,but that's not really your fault. You can't help if new builds slow down. However, that's when you rely on additions and reno's.
  7. I asked this question a while back and wondered the same thing after being part time for 17 years with my residential design work. Bust your butt, make relationships, be patient with clients and 6 figures is attainable. Charging by the sq foot has worked best for me. Do renderings as well, not just houseplans. Some people want to see color options of their home before spending the money. I charge 100% up front for renderings. People get very excited when you send them a modeled version of their home with different paint options. Every thing else is a down payment and then final payment. I will tell you right now, CA is the only way I can do this full time. Autocad just won't cut it and I am not willing to learn another software if I don't have too.
  8. yes, all is perfect now, just made something fairly easy, hard like i normally do. thanks
  9. and floor surfaces is turned on in the framing view but no plywood subfloor shows. Apparently my setting are jacked up?
  10. You are very right guys, I just noticed that I never built the FDN before I got back on the forum, duh! So, if this is a crawl space on pilings I wont' need stem walls, it will all be open, Maybe dressed up with lattice. How do I manipulate the fdn to suit this? Basically, I need to show double 2x12's for my rim joists and delete the stem walls and draw in manually what I need. Is that the best route to take?
  11. Guys, It has been awhile since I had a home with a floor joist system. "Build framing" will not give me the option to bring in the floor joists. What am I missing? I set up the defaults to suit in each room in the structure dbx. Thanks, plan attached. Hill Residence.plan
  12. Here is an example of how I did mine for the wife (plan file attached). Obviously, the finished product came out alot different once I made impromptu changes during the build. I used CA for material takeoff mainly. tash shed.plan
  13. Latest request.........builders love the door and window schedules for ordering purposes but framers hate flipping pages or even looking to the right and searching the schedule for door numbers then sizes when they are rolling with the framing. Is there a way to add the door and window schedules but instead of a D10 or a W20 (examples) can the numbers be the door sizes (label) on the floorplan?
  14. Thanks for the input guys. Never a dull moment with these homes.
  15. I like that small gable curve.
  16. Agree, I will talk to the builder and see what he thinks. Canted roof eaves is one thing but curved seems a little nutty.
  17. haha....should I upload another profile pic? oooooo yeahhhhhh!
  18. curved roof check box. How have I never seen that lol?
  19. It almost looks as if it's the gutter shape that makes the curved illusion.
  20. So I was sent this as an example someone wants to do on their home. How would you guys tackle the curvature?
  21. Yeah, all of this info is WAY above my pay grade lol. That's some Good Will Hunting type shiznit.
