I have found with roofs that if anything happens like you have listed there is an error somewhere. Once that gets fixed everything falls into place. From making sure all roof plans are joined to wall placement CA roofs are very sensitive. Might even be a box needing checked or unchecked. I fixed a boxed eave this morning after a search and found a 10 year old thread that showed me what to do. It worked great.

10 years later and this really help my situation today.

I am thinking the same thing as yall. Take out the colors and render in clay or technical lines. Use colored renderings for my portfolio on website, google and IG. Thanks! I may scrap the interior videos all together but keep doing the exterior walk arounds. Now I just gotta hope my returning builders and clients don't get too disappointed with one less file. Or maybe even have a video file charge for the headache they bring.

Sounds like we work the same. The interior videos are black and white BUT on special areas, like this current home I am working, I wanted a shot of the kitchen, dining and loft space (open concept) rendered and I use physically based. Looks cool with my video card I have. That's where the problems begin, visuals on the interior video and colors on the renderings.

After using Chief Architect for 8 years now I think it may be time to change the way I present my plans. Before Chief, I used 2D AutoCad for the prior 14 years. Here is what I send for my preliminaries for 8 years now: Exterior video walk around, Interior video flyover, colored exterior renderings and a plan set consisting of the same 3D renderings (non color on title page), site plan, survey and parcel info on sheet 2, floorplan(s) with door, window and cabinet schedules and sq ft breakdown on sheet 3, roof plan and details on sheet 4 and finally exterior elevations on sheets 5 & 6. That being said, what I am finding more and more is the interior videos are really becoming a hassle with too much focus on them by the client. They know my design process focuses mainly on getting construction plans done to build the home and getting the exterior color and material ideas incorporated so they can at least see that as well as the Builder, doors and windows correctly sized also. What I do not focus on or charge for is interior design. I use the same cabinets, doors, moldings, backsplashes etc, on all homes. The interior videos are causing clients to get hung up on colors, cabinet door styles and other things that do not pertain to house plans, more of the stuff they sit down with their builder or even interior designer to pick out materials at the build phase. Most builders send my plans to their cabinet guys anyway and tell me not to spend too much time on cabinet design. Do you guys bother with presenting interior videos??

Thanks guys, very helpful.

Howdy Chiefers, is there a way to chamfer a door like shown below. Would be cool if so instead making a note for the builder to custom cut it.
-
ahhhh, well there you go, thanks JKE.

In X15 and below floating formers automatically cut a hole in the roof and allowed light into the attic is why I was asking. If I cut a roof hole in X17 it creates a shaft down into the room, even if left unchecked, and I don't want that.
-
Both.

I noticed something in X17. Why aren't dormers cutting roof holes anymore? Do we manually add the roof holes now? And while I am asking, I also noticed basin sinks I have used for years no longer have faucets built in to them and just something else we have to manually add.

Pretty cool JKE. End result below. I watched this tutorial https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/388/drawing-curved-stairs.html and used a part of it to get it more J shaped. I cannot believe how long I messed around with this. Needs a little cleaning up but nothing bad.

Too bad we can’t draw a spline or arc and have the stairs follow the contour. Guess that would be in suggestions
-
I think the client is getting too confused on visuals. The actual built stairs and the stairs shown on the plans (below).
-
Would winders help? It looks like in the pic the treads are tapered.

Thanks guys, I will give segments a try.

Hey guys, CA curved stair tool is too much of a radius. How do you guys get something more subtle like this? Almost like it is straight from the top and then it curves the last 1/4 part at the bottom. I tried to manipulate the curved stair tool but it's too sensitive and just won't take shape. I even tried a straight stair and adding a break towards the bottom to curve but that created two sets of stairs. Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, wild thought here. When we record walk through's is there a way to add music? My files default open to windows media player and don't see where that is offered. Thoughts? I am not experienced in this area. I just design the homes haha.

I take huge down payments (large portion of the overall project) to do prelims so giving them the CAD file is harmless to me. They basically paid for it. Whether you send the CAD files or not some people are smart enough to know that you can import the pdf files you send them for the prelims into AutoCad or other software and have lines ready to use. However, I don't think that has ever been asked to me other than engineer's requesting it. I get it though, why would she want it? Take it to another designer?? If that was to happen you probably dodged a headache anyway and didn't need to work with them.

Dang that looks great! And thanks I will take a look at your plan file.

Hey guys, looking for a garage door like below. Would this have to be manually built somehow on CA? Owner is adamant on his business having this type of door. What we have in the library is too nice. I have every manufacturer downloaded in my library and don't see anything.
-
How on earth did that happen? I promise I wasn't drinking whiskey when I started the plan file. haha

Here ya go, I am at a loss. An old gas station was torn down and my client is building his office on the lot and wants to go with the gas station theme. Kinda cool idea. In it's early stages and I deleted just about everything except the structure just to get it to upload. Williams State Farm-copy.plan
