I want some credit! I'm the one who started the "Positive Thoughts" topic because there was a lot of sniveling going on!

I typically always work from my layout first to get to the plan files that I need to edit. Its not so much I don't know how things work (but still have a lot to learn) it's more of how to organize it. I think with what everyone has shared with me I am very grateful because I have a better understanding of what direction to go now to clean things up. I really like Perry's way of setting up templates and I like Joe's way of organizing details so I learned a lot from both of you and not to mention the input from others that I have not disregarded. Everyone's input is always important to the whole picture. Thank You!!!

I did all that and I deleted all the framing and started over and set the spacing and rebuild in manually and automatic. I tried it and the spacing does not change. I went out of the plan and back it, I reset everything in every way I could think of. I have to be missing something though unless there is a glitch in the system.

1) If you have your main project plan file and 4 other detail plan files that you are sending items to your layout file that doesn't really slow anything down does it? 2) And the second part is does the items sent from the library slow things down the same or more or less?

I think if you want to use the library more I would still keep the details in a plan file so you have a backup. You can always go back in and block it and put it back in the library if you need too.

Ok, so I changed the roof rafter default settings from 24" to 16" and when I rebuild the framing my rafters are still at 24". Never remember having this problem before? Should be simple! I thing the Chief "gremlins" are attacking again! Or I'm just tired because I have been up most of the night working on this drawing. I know I have been really needy lately but Help!

Joe & Perry, I have done all these methods and so I guess I just need to decide which way I want to go so my details aren't so mixed up. Both directions are good but the important part with me is to find consistency. Thank You

Perry, Do you build you details in a plan file and send them to the layout or do you build them in the layout file? I've done both and I also have scanned details that are in my library. I need to make up my mind and bring everything together and clean things up. Can you give me a little input on that? Or anyone else that wants to comment I would be grateful. I guess you almost have to have a plan file just for details? I have all my stuff in the library but I like that you already have detail in your template. The library gets to congested and so its not easy to always find stuff quickly. Now that I working on a larger scale this is important.

I'm 50 and this is my first. Now I know can understand how my friends feel. Its pretty cool!!!

See Attachment By default the two handles are right next to each other (one larger than the other) and when I grab it the whole roof plane moved so when I zoomed in on it like you told me I could see it. Thank You!!!

Thank you Perry for sharing this video. Been using Chief for a lot of years but never quite enough to spend the time putting together good working templates and annotation sets. But now that I want to sit on my $%$# more I'm trying to learn more to be productive so I can enjoy my new grand baby!!!

The whole roof plane??? I don't get it! I'm feeling pretty stupid right now! Or are you messing with me? Please come down to my education level.

I tried to change the default to my new interior wall layer set I created but cannot figure out how to may it a default?

I always leave the interior walls in on the site plan and roof plan but it would be better if the interior walls weren't there so I will try your way. Also the interior walls get in the way of the roof labels and you cant see all the labels clearly.

Is there any way to move the roof labels around?

Perry, Do you copy your "walls normal" layer set and then mark the new copy interior or exterior to put them on separate layer sets?

Ok, I didn't realize you could send to layout without having something drawn in the plan file so If that's right then I can set that up. Also, In the send to layout dialog box I unchecked the box to make a copy of the active layer set. Didn't really find a need for an extra copy laying around. I don't understand what that is for. Can anyone explain it to me or do I just not need it to copy?

What do you mean "all the views already sent to the layout"? Am I over looking a simple time saver step here?

My operating system and programs in total are only about 80GB so I didn't need to spend the large money on a bigger one than the 256.

I was told to only put programs on the SSD without the data.

Took some advise from my son, I added a "Solid State" hard drive to my computer and I run my operating system and Chief on it and put all my files on the regular hard drive. I'm no computer tech but the Solid State drive was the best thing I ever done. Windows system boots up in about 10 seconds and Chief runs like a top! So I put all my programs on the SS and I'm a happy camper!

Thank You It hasn't happened to me on the current drawing I'm working on but I'm sure it will. Wanted to ask the question before it happen again. The only thing that really bugs me about it is that if I have to resend the layout than I have to put my description back in again for the layout label (Plot Plan 1/8 inch = 1 foot). Otherwise its not too bad just frustrating to cause me extra steps and waist time. Also if I don't noticed that it didn't update and it goes to print that another frustrating moment. Damn Gremlins!
