Me two I'm familiar with most of these things but if you remember my original question was; Looking for a few Ideas to draw a four-plex apartment unit. Are there any sample drawings within CA or anywhere else I can look at to get me started? Haven't drawn an apartment building yet and I need to get my thought process in that direction. Any help would be appreciated. More for two story design layouts for the apartments themselves. I can do it on my own but it always helps to cheat a little by looking at some other drawings for ideas. This is mainly just preliminary to put some cost together for the owner. I have done a lot of work for him in the past and don't mind going thru the extra work but I wan to keep it simple. Not getting paid yet. Respectfully

Thank you I forgot about party walls. I thought party walls were more for Condo's but I sure do understand the separation is good for sound. I have done a lot of sound walls for restaurants and churches for the bands. Quiet rock is my material of choice for sound but it may be to costly and over kill for an apartment. Does separation also help with fire? I know 5/8 type X is the materials to use but just to be clear I'm asking if the 1 or 2 inch gap helps with fire? http://www.quietrock.com/

I spoke to my son and he buys a lot of his components through newegg.com and some from Fry's electronics and even alienware. I think with all the information I have been given I think I will build a system myself using his help and the technical information that you have all shared with me. I have been using AVG as an antivirus and I also herd some good things about system mechanic. Any thoughts on that? Thank You

Thank you all for the specifics. That really helps! I want to make a good choice and these are all good suggestions.

I put mine in desk top mode also. I just think it is really awkward compared to other versions. It was set up for touch screen and I think that is why it is the way it is. I think they should of figured a way to make so you can still have the traditional desk top. They sort of did that but not very good. I think they really missed the mark. I think its even worse than windows vista. XP in my opinion has been the best ever as far as user friendly. I hope they do a better job with the next version.

One of my lap tops has windows 8.1 and I hate it. Let me know if you get more info on the upgrade I would like to do that.

I have had HP before also and I had good luck with it in the past.

My son purchases his equipment through alienware and builds his own for gaming. He spends a couple thousand every few of years. Maybe I will ask him to build it.

I think I will look for a local shop and see what's out there. I will tell them I want it good enough for gaming. I think that is a good suggestion. All great suggestions! Thank You

Thinking of getting a new desktop computer to run the CA program. I know a lot of people don't like Dell but I have a Dell and have been very happy with it and the online support has been good. I pay the service fee each year because when I screw things up I have instant help and I multitask a lot so I need it. Does anyone have any suggestions on the type of operating system, hardware, software....? And I'm open to other manufacturer's I just wanted to give my experience with Dell Computers. I not totally dumb when it come to computers but I would like to know what others are doing so I can make a better choice. Thank You Joey

I I don't need to dimension off them. I just use them to reference the wall for the structural calculations. Its funny I have never use the Paste Hold Position. New it was there but I guess I never thought about how it could help me, Thanks Joe

Ok, what I came up with is to put them on a layer set as Ii usually do but copy and paste to the second floor. But what I didn't know is that I can cut and paste "Hold Position" and it will be same as first floor. That works unless someone has an even better idea?
-
I put them on their own layer set but don't see in the dbx where to display them on all floor?
-
I'm not sure what the technical term is but I call them "Reference Lines" (refer to attached picture to see what I'm talking about). My question is; Is there a way to put these reference lines on the first floor plan and have them show up automatically on the other floors without having to manually put them on each floor? I put these in on all my drawings manually and I hope I'm not missing something simple. I thought there should be an option or tool to automatically generate reference lines but I haven't found anything yet.

I guess just being consistent is most important. I appreciate all the input. Although since I have been on the forum I have changed the way I do things on several items. Hoping that I can be of help to others at some point.

I don't always show existing windows and doors for the entire house but when your doing Historical houses you have to show everything for the planning commission.

I put the (E) and the (N) in front of the label in the schedule and on the elevations but not the floor plan. Like this:

Well.....I suck at golf so I may as well be doing stupid stuff with CA to pass my time. Seriously though I learn a lot when we tangent off on some of these issues.
-
Well, I couldn't help much with solving problems so I'm glad I can make you laugh at least.
