  1. I currently have 16 GB ram memory in my computer and was going to upgrade to 32. Can anyone tell me if this could make a significant difference when I'm working with 3D renderings if the rest of my computer hardware is sufficient?
  2. In the future remember also that when your in the attic level you can turn on reference display to see your lower walls so you know where you need to place the attic walls that Chief does not add automatically.
  3. That's funny! Sounds like me. There is only one room divider so you must have done it.
  4. You are a big help to others. Thank You!

I was wondering if you could help me with getting all the bugs worked out on a complicated roof design if I sent you the plan file. I would of course donate to your cause. My problem is I don't have enough time to learn it. I have been using Chief for about 20 years now so I'm not new at this. I set up everything to run live and I use annotation sets so I have a lot of time learning and building my template.

Right now I'm trying to do an as build and they must have added on to this house 3 or 4 times so its cut up. I got the outside to look right but from the inside you can see all the penetrations from the roof lines. Frustrating!

The addition I'm adding is the area where I put the Mansard roof. Seemed like a good way to do it to keep it simple and keep the cost down. Also I think the city would prefer a lower profile roof.

I'm sending you the plan file in case you would like to take a look for me. I would much appreciate it.

Its easy to draw what you did but its another thing to build it and make it work structurally without the high cost. Structural design codes have gotten way out of hand here in California (most of it unnecessary in my opinion). That's not my problem here. Its cleaning up the inside lines for 3D view I'm concerned about.

Someone building this would start by cutting back the overhangs on the intruding roof planes.

I noticed you have a ridge showing. Is that correct?

For questions like this, it would help to have an as-built model as a comparison.

  5. I'm more of a visual guy and I like the training video's but the knowledge base is faster sometimes depending on what you are doing. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/?utm_source=Chief+Architect+Premier+20.1.0.43+x64&utm_medium=software&utm_campaign=Resource%3A+videos
  6. Great Advise!!! Thank You!!!
  7. If you want to just put it over the drywall you can use the material region tool under the wall tools. Watch the video in CA for the "Wall Material Region" tool. There are several ways to achieve what you want to do. It sounds like you need to go thorough some of the quick start video's and introduction videos.
  8. My Hero! Thank You So I also found it in the default settings so it wont come up anymore.
  9. I thought I was just loosing my mind. Thank you for clearing that up!!! Yes, Please Chief fix it ASAP! Thank You Eric
  10. I did that. The header lines are solid and the opening lines are dashed. Its the dashed lines I can get to turn off.
  11. Does anyone know haw to get rid of the dotted line in a door opening without having to turn off the doors layer? I don't remember ever having this problem before x10. Thank You
  12. I know what you all are saying but I don't even get the difference between a room divider and an invisible wall. The layer is the same for both and I don't understand that either. I understand the concept of it I think but why are they not totally separate from each other as tool?
  13. Thank You Robert, I appreciate the input but I'm very happy with my new laptop for what I do. The problem with the CPU is minor and I was just curious why it did that. From what I understand that even gaming computers will max out the CPU but there are setting that you can do to help with that if its an issue. Other than that everything runs fine But I like to understand how things work.
  14. No worries David! I really appreciate your help and we all fall for the crap once and a while and we really don't know what's true or not with this guy. That is why this forum is so wonderful. We can all learn from each other and help each other out. Even the most knowledgeable guy on this forum can use help from time to time. I only wish I had more to offer than always being the guy to ask the questions but I guess in some ways I am helping by asking in the first place. We challenge each other. OK, enough mushy talk! You are vital to our forum David thank you for your humble attitude and all the effort you put in!!
  15. ThioJoe made a video warning people the he makes humorous videos that you should not follow as truth. However he has what he claims to be a legitimate set of videos to actually help people. The problem is how do we know for sure what is fiction and what is truth. I would like to believe him but I just cant unless I have something to back it up. I think he screwed himself by starting the fake videos and then trying to go legit. So he is technically a dumba** anyway.
  16. I updated my signature and your right I have been absent for a long time. Last year was a rough one. Thanks For The Help!!
  17. My CPU maxed out when I use 3D and causes hesitation while I cut and paste windows and other functions in the perspective view. Does anyone know how to avoid this issue?
  18. Yes it works nice now that I upgraded to X10 Thank You
  19. Joe, What version of Chief are you using? Your library wont download. I'm still on X9
  20. I'm trying to show an exterior bi-fold door system 12 feet wide with 4 panels. One main active door on the left and 3 bi-fold panels that fold to the right. Is there a way to accomplish this? I cant find anything in the library. Please Help
  21. Thanks Guys! I was having trouble making my pool equipment enclosure using the retaining walls as a room because it kept messing up my terrain levels. The terrain wall would have been perfect to use but it wouldn't except the gates I wanted to put in it. So I ended up making a room with an exterior wall and three invisible walls and I just lowered the elevation of the room to get what I wanted. I would like to know if I could have started this whole project different. Was wondering if maybe I should have started with a basement under the entire deck area because maybe I wouldn't have had so many problems with putting the deck in over a retaining wall. Anyway, wanted to share my thoughts and maybe get a little feed back. This is the first time I ever dealt with these different levels. Its not easy to get the terrain to do what you want it to do.
  22. I'm trying to put a gate in a terrain wall but it wont let me. Is there a way to do that? Can someone please help?
  23. Good Morning!

Hope everything is going well with you
