  1. I usually just create a room molding polyline and add it to the outer edge of the floor.
  2. Open the closet room and raise the floor...see attached;
  3. I made this video a while ago but it’s still relevant.
  4. Raise the roof. In a 3D view…select the 2 roof planes, open “transform/replicate”, enter the amount you need to add to your walls in the “Z” elevation. That should do it.
  5. You probably need to manually draw in an attic wall. Go the attic level and draw in a wall using the exterior wall type you have been using. You can designate this as an attic wall. You may need to see your roof line to make sure you are drawing the wall in the correct location...and, you don't want the roof to "cut" into the wall...and, you want the roof to abut the attic wall. So...you may want to post your plan as stated above.
  6. I offer online Chief Training. You can learn more by visiting my site; www.MyChiefSkills.com.
  7. If there is a flat ceiling...the auto floating dormer does not cut a hole into the ceiling below. What you are describing only works if you turn the ceiling off. I'm not sure whether the OP wanted a ceiling or a vaulted ceiling.
  8. If you would attach your plan someone would help you. Also...what version of Chief are you using. When you get the chance you should fill out your signature.
  9. Attached is an example plan. Dormer Open Below Example Plan.plan You will need a 2nd floor...but, no room definition. Open one 2nd floor exterior wall and set this wall to have no room definition. This way...you have a 2nd floor but Chief won't build a floor...it will treat the space as an attic. However, you can draw the dormer walls now on the 2nd floor. Create a room inside the dormer...and make it open below. The dormer walls are not set to "roof cuts wall at bottom". You will need a hole in the roof plan around the dormer. I placed these on the 2nd floor...then, moved them (cut/paste) to the first floor and changed the line type to dashed. If you have to vault the first floor ceiling...well, the process is similar but more difficult.
  10. Rob - you can "retain" framing...but, if you do then the "auto regenerate deck framing" does not rebuild your deck. So...if you manually modify the framing of a deck - which we all must do because the deck tool only gets things "close" - then you would open the deck room and on the structure tab select "retain floor/ceiling framing". But - your deck will not "rebuild" if you move a wall...just keep that in mind.
  11. you have to make sure that "automatically regererate deck framing" is check "on". If you have manually framed the deck...then this turns feature is turned "off"....and won't returrn until you check it "on". However...you will lose any custom deck framing you may have done.
  12. Why not use the "auto floating dormer" tool. You will have to adjust the parameters of this tool (dbl click the icon). Since your house roof pitch is so low...you have to remember that when you use an auto dormer tool in Chief...the ridge of the dormer cannot extend above the main ridge of the roof plane you are placing it on. If so...you'll get an error message. Are you attempting to have a "room" for this dormer...or, is it just resting on top of the roof. If so...use the "auto floating dormer" tool. If you need a room...you'll have to build a second floor. What type roof do you want on the dormer...gable or shed?
  13. I downloaded your smaller file...lineweights work fine for me. Made a quick video... Line Weight Issue - Watch Video
  14. The file you uploaded is a DWG...not a .PLAN file in Chief
  15. You might check your preferences;
  16. You have to turn lineweights "on" in order to see the actual lineweight of objects; You can also toggle lineweights from the "VIEW" menu.
  17. Take a look at my "fix" plan. Not sure it's exactly what you want...but, you might find a few useful golden nuggets in it. I drew your plan from scratch as there were too many gremlins in trying to fix things in your plan. I created the general spaces...but not every detail. Glenrock clone - Steve Nestor Fix Plan.plan
  18. Open the room, change the room to "deck"...ignore the warning...and then on the deck tab, make sure you check "automatically regenerate deck framing". Chief gives a warning whenever you build a deck over the top of another room...in this case another deck room below. You should change all your deck rooms to the "deck" room type. They aren't "porches".
  19. @Hannahfdc - I messed around with your plan...fixed a few things and modified the roof design. Not sure it's what you want...but maybe it'll serve as inspiration. Your deck rooms were named as "porch"...I changed them to "deck". If you don't want them to be decks...I'd change them to "balconies". Greg Plan - Roof Example.zip
  20. To get the floor...just open the room and on the deck tab, select "automatically regenerate deck framing". Just ignore the warning...you are building a deck over a room below (another deck in this case)...which Chief just cannot seem to contemplate.
  21. If you would post your plan file...that will help you get a good answer. Thanks.
  22. @Hannahfdc - If you would post your plan one of the Chief experts on this forum will give you guidance. Otherwise we are all guessing.
  23. That front wall is a pony wall...and you placed a door into the wall that is cutting the lower portion of the wall. I don't think Chief will show the remaining area of the wall below the door. Just a guess...but, the actual "foundation" wall is below the door. And...since that wall is exposed to freeze...it will have to have a deep footing. Maybe you should have placed the lower level plan on "level 1"...and had a true foundation plan on "level 0"?
  24. Steve - Well, I placed the door elevation relative to the "Finished Floor"...along with my change to the "elevation of lower wall top"...and it seems to work. I also turned off the "exterior casing".
  25. Steve - well, that actually does not change the foundation plan view. I think this is because you are actually cutting the lower portion of the pony wall?
