  1. Nice Glenn - got anymore of those up your sleeve? .....and despite the comments somethings happened under the hood of X7, manipulating large 3D perspectives has become much faster for me
  2. Nice Bill - I keep looking for the 'Like" button when I see something like this
  3. Nice idea Joe - does the cad concern make a call for the ability to adjust the horizontal cut plane of floor plans ?
  4. draw invisible wall(s) to the sides - check winders in the dbx - make sure 'max tread contraction' under 'style' is at least long enough to extend the sides the distance you re are seeking
  5. Same as Joey - Always start with the existing and change it to a CAD block - I've tried other ways but this gives me the best control.
  6. Both right thanks guys - can't see the wood for the trees some days
  7. Nice to know I'm not alone Bill - I can work around it anyone else tried it?
  8. This is a plan footprint CAD detail created by clicking the plan footprint icon. I draw a polyline over the existing house footprint then draw a line across the polyline open the line dbx and check arrow on each end, the line length jumps to zero. I have had this happen on other plans. If I draw a line horizontally and add arrows its fine - if I draw an angled line not connected corner points on the polyline its fine - it only happens when the line is from corner point to corner point. OK just checked, it does it in the plan too. Is this something to do with the line wanting to become part of the polyline.
  9. Thanks Glenn - I've been playing with this for years and all of a sudden in the heat of the moment I had no below floor levels. Obviously I checked to see what layer was turned off not knowing that the foundation layer chopped the lot off...learn something new every day. Gotcha on the CAD, Layer.. it probably helps if I slow down and try not to work this stuff out in the heat of battle....
  10. Anyone know why my deck framing and subfloor disappears in camera view if I turn off the foundation layer, even though the foundation layer in the camera layer set shows that it is not used. (no the subfloor an deck framing are not on the foundation layer). Drives me nuts this stuff – I spend nearly as much time trying to figure stuff out as I do drawing some days. ......and why does one wall show as being on the layer ‘walls normal” but when I grab two they show as being on layer 'CAD, Default'
  11. Scott & Perry, Its the "Panopticon" effect http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panopticon Big brother setting us up to become our own policemen
  12. Yup Gene, That was my problem after much moaning about X6 and how snaggy it was. I reworked the terrain (removed it and rebuilt it) on a large hillside project and bingo I'm flying again. Not sure why that particular job suffered as another similar project didn't seem to.
  13. I never thought of that Curt - I too notice that updates don't always happen and usually go to the plan & back to the layout......some days I hate the way I over think things - zoom/unzoom - scroll the mouse wheel and all is well........
  14. Yup Michael - 3.4GHz no turbo boost.
  15. Well there were a few assumptions - I love the way conversations quickly change, my archicad got switched to a revit/autocad debate over night. What ever a program costs I still expect the damn thing to run properly. It's frustrating when I draw/design for a living and the program can't keep up with what I'm laying down on the screen...anyhoooo I'll see if tech support has any solutions......love your input though
  16. .........interesting reading everyone but..................lets face it a software package like CA should scream around with 16GB of ram on a 64bit system. I have no problems at all with large Archicad files and renders. I hear the settings suggestions but what settings are likely to bog/unbog the catchy behaviour I'm experiencing. I'm not aware of any that make a difference, and as stated had no problems with X5. I hear the SSD comments also but come on guys this thing should run on a standard system without a problem. Would love to hear from users who have experienced this and solved the issue.....
  17. I've just sat with a client using my old laptop - although a bit slow on regenerating - it seemed smoother than CA on my desk top. Laptop is 32bit, 2Ghz with 3.00G of ram running on WinXp. Desktop is 64bit 3.4GHz with 16GB of ram running on Win 8.1 Anyone else seeing a difference between 32/64bit and different windows platforms?
  18. OK I am still getting a few of these and also just a blank lock up at times - but when I re-open CA I haven't lost anything yet. I'm also having times when things get a bit snaggy and X6 seems to catch for a second or two when I'm moving/copying stuff. I usually close the plan and reopen it again and then things run OK...
  19. All good here Graeme - I have just started using the built in 'save as pdf' setting in X6 and having no problems with pdfs in layout from the DBH compliance docs......but I have brought them into a cad detail sheet first and then to layout not sure if this makes a difference. You say "when printing the whole of the layout". Does it happen when you print single/specific layout sheets?
  20. Jonathan/Doug Same problem here even after upgrade of CA & video driver......usually happens around an undo. I have had this problem in older versions with imported cad details/blocks but it happened yesterday with a small clean plan. I'll make sure I log when the issue arises next time. Same as others, X5 was no problem.
  21. Yup... happened a few times for no apparent reason - loaded the update last night and haven't had any problems so far. I am not on a server and have more computer grunt than I know what to do with.
  22. Hi all, Can someone tell me where if at all, I can set a default "Y offset" position for the auto created layout box labels. I realise I can open each one but......somewhere there must be a default setting I'm missing. thanks in advance..
  23. This may also depend on 'what' camera view you are using...
