  1. If you create the stairwell with a room which includes, not only your steps but also includes the landing then, the open-below room will have the default ceiling height of your 1st floor, so there’s nothin to do beyond that. The landing gets adjusted when properly snapped to the two stair runs. The other way is to use a separate room to define the landing, and another room with an open-below room for the 2 stair runs. You would then drop the floor level of the landing room to the height you need to accommodate the stairs. With either option you’re never adjusting the ceiling height.
  2. Hopefully it works more like it does in Archicad where you define a colour and fill pattern for the walls, floors, etc, when they get cut by a section.
  3. The announcement only says Mac raytracing, which we already have, so I think they mean realtime raytracing or whatever that greyed out section is called when you do PBR. Also excited to see poché fill. I guess we're finally getting cut fills for sections and maybe even 3D views?
  4. @DefinedDesign You can adjust the handrail peeking out on the landing by adjusting the grab handle of the railing wall at the break you inserted. The grab/break handle determines where the railing ends.
  5. You can lower the floor level of the “open below” room by 28-1/4”, so that your door will sit at the proper level. No need to lower the door. An open below room behaves the same way as other rooms.
  6. In Quebec we have 3d detail drawings available which are up to date with the same building code version as in Ontario. They're available on our builders association website APCHQ or the builder's bonding and guarantee website GCR. I'm sure you guys have similar in Ontario, just ask a local builder which association he is a member of. You should see their logos on any certified local builder's website, even. Of course they're in French but I'm sure you have something similar in Ontario. You could still click around and copy the images and make those part of your detail drawings. (along with some google translate) Here is a link to our builders association website: https://www.apchq.com/entrepreneurs/technique/fiches-techniques here's an example.... 93131 JLV.23 TECH Fiche technique S5-01-02 VF.pdf
  7. @westvale Here is about the best I can do on a Mac. If you find this good enough for publication (I don't) then here are my settings. One important thing is to use a proper backdrop as the backdrop will affect lighting. The reason you're getting the washed out look is mostly due to your white background. On a Mac a more subdued background like some of the Dusk skies are usually easier to work with as they are darker. It's easier to increase brightness than to decrease it. @stevenyhof credit to Steven for the background image below.
  8. You can do a pony wall where the bottom portion is your 4” high concrete stemwall and the top portion is your barn wall at whatever thickness. Just be careful of how you’re aligning the top portion over the bottom one. I’m assuming you’ll want the outside to outside alignment, since you wouldn’t want a concrete ledge going around the outside perimeter. The future 4” slab can go in whenever you want as the floor structure. I don’t think you need a floor finish. That’ll be provided by the cows, I guess… I'm not sure what “existing road base” is? Is that just your terrain going through the barn?
  9. No one will tell you this but it is impossible to produce a proper ray trace or pbr image on a Mac. Give it up. Standard render is your only friend. It will produce “acceptable” images to show your clients but not worthy of website, portfolio or brochures etc… If you want professional renderings, hire it out or buy a pc and spend the time.
  10. You definitely need a cad program to view whatever you export. I use Qcad Pro about $45 usd, a one-time perpetual license. https://qcad.org/en/online-shop Each view has to be exported separately. floor plan level, 0, 1, 2, cross section, elevation front, back, left, right etc. 1 export per view. I would reduce all line weights to 1 or even 0 (experiment) Acad users often dump every view on one screen and then zoom into the various views. unlike Chief’s floor levels and saved camera and plan views. So you might want to do the same, this way they open 1 file and everything is there. I’m not a regular Acad user but I often export out to engineers and architects. Maybe it’s regional but they always ask for all views on 1 page. Here are my settings for the Eport Drawing dbx:
  11. Chiearchitect.com my account digital locker make available
  12. @ValleyGuy Would love a video of this beast in action.
  13. The toolbar almost goes blank with maybe two or three icons remaining. I realize this is mostly a Mac issue, with more than one monitors, so it gets little attention. Little attention, except from the people who don’t have this issue. It’s been an issue discussed often enough on this forum, and if you call Chief or make a report they will pretty much tell you it doesn’t ever happen on any of their computers, Mac or PC, despite multiple reports. I'm hoping that if I ***** about it maybe something will be done about it. I’ve actually learned to live with it by mostly using hotkeys, like that little three-legged dog still prancing around happy as a button. Thanks for showing interest. I hope you don’t encounter this ever.
  14. I would gladly give up the ability to customize Toolbars if it meant the out of the box Toolbars would just stay put and not go all wonky on me. I’m at my wits end with this crap. I use keyboard shortcuts for most tools anyway. Anyone willing to join the chorus on this rant?
  15. I can't wait until we have "cut fill" control of walls and floors instead of the auto detail tool. The auto detail tool will create patterned cad boxes but won't update to follow changes in the plan. Hopefully in X16?
  16. You can also just take a screenshot when the pdf is nice and big so that the resulting screenshot will have a pretty resolution without the pdf bulk.

  18. Edit area - all floors, tool along with transform/replicate tool
  19. I’m no engineer but have done similar before. Trusses like the one in my crappy marked up drawing are doubled up on either side of the lookout shaft/steeple. Between those doubled up trusses are lvl’s to close the box.
  20. I do these a lot. Create a mirror version of the plan: 1) turn on all layers except cameras and use the "Edit" > Edit Area > Edit Area All Floors and marquee select everything. 2) transform/replicate > reflect horizontally Save as Mirrored Version. 3) Delete everything on the right side after that dividing wall. 4) Edit Area All Floors, select all and move the block to the right by the appropriate amount. 5) Edit Area All Floors, select all and copy (ctrl C) Open original plan and delete everything to the left of that dividing wall. 6) Paste Hold Position. 7) Profit
  21. More powerful if you’re using default sets via Saved Plan Views.
