  1. Yes the extra lines...annoying, my perspective on this is it is a artistic rendering and it is meant to convey a design. I keep the extensions on and keep the lines squiggle on..here is the settings i use. So in the end it is quick and artistic so i put up with the lines as there could be construction lines visible in a water colour. I guess i would tell customer if asked that this is to convey the design intent.
  2. If a raytrace is done well...it looks great..i see so many that dont..this water colour rendering took me secs to do..
  3. HI everyone, there is always a lot of discussion about ray traces and how to make them look good. In my opinion total waste of time when you can get a rendering using the water colour after setting up the scene with your max 8 lights that conveys the design very well... Here is an interior and exterior..comments?
  4. I have an interior 4" wall flush with the inside face of a 6" exterior wall, the 6" walls are not closing properly, i have checked to make sure all walls are standard top and bottom heights. I have never seen this before. The two exterior walls are different types but the same thickness and main layers and dimension layers. Any ideas?
  5. But should I be painting walls with painter tool , doesn’t this cause problems
  6. Knowing that only 8 lights can display at one time, is there a way to group lights and turn on and off these groups?
  7. I am using material regions for battens and wanted to be able to show customer different wall colours by opening wall and Changing material, but then I need to also change material region. i wanted to link material region with a wall material.
  8. I have used my logo and made it a wall surface and set it high on wall and made it faint and it runs around entire room. another way is to put a picture on wall with a promotion of your business . View in Chief Architect’s 360° Panorama Viewer.
  9. I might have painted it, can’t remember, I have not redrawn it yet, I guess that is what I will do. i thought there might be a simple answer. thanks
  10. I am having trouble when I change exterior wall surface material on defaults one of my walls on my model will not change to new default, anyone have a reason or fix?
  11. Hey Michael, looks like a good way, the only problem is chief has very limited hex tiles...also harder to mix different tiles this way. Cheers.
  12. I made a tile with a surrounding grout as a material region and then copied again and again, I will save this and I should be able to drop it in another plan .
  13. Thanks Eric....much better to do with material regions...for both grout and tile... not sure if i will keep multi-colours but i like the effect. Cheers...
  14. I built polyline solids for grout and tile and then had to make a material region to cut out floor because in water colour view the lines of the hardwood would show thru unless i made tile at least 1/8" or thicker than hardwood? not sure why this is happening...i thought that even if polyline solids were 1/16 above floor it should cover the floor?
  15. But the issue i see is the tiles have to match exactly where the cut out is in both vector view and standard view, and i think it can be difficult to align x and y for this tile especially if there is more than one instance? Maybe it makes sense to make tiles as a 3d polyline solids and then the hardwood can be cut using a precise material region? Chopsaw what is the #3 key, forgive my ignorance?
  16. I would like to get some ideas on the best way to represent this blend of larger hex tiles and hardwood in chief?
  17. Thanks a bunch eric, how would anyone know that? I changed the drawers back to slabs and kept the doors as a library slab with horizontal grain texture. I used a vert grain texture for drawers to get a horizontal grain in end.
  18. Here is a plan with the cabinet in it, what am i doing wrong? full height cabinet.zip
  19. I did this and no matter what i do i cant get the drawers to show horizontal grain wood, i saved material and rotated it 90 degrees and tried putting both on drawers..it wont change?
  20. Hi all, i want to have a horizontal textured laminate look on a full height cabinet for both doors and drawers. CA automatically makes drawers and doors go in a different direction? I thought maybe make two different cabinets and have two different materials, is this the only way i can do this or can i do this on one cabinet another way?
  21. Thanks for reply’s it seems like ca has some work to do on stairs. adjustible stringer thickness comes to mind as well as separate material for stringer. in my area for a standard builder house they use a stringer against wall and run carpet up the inside of stringer to the top and then a wood cap is put on top of stinger against wall to finish off. but there is about 1/2” of space between stringer and wall then a 1.5” stringer..
  22. Thanks Eric, i wanted to show carpet on stairs and another material on stinger. Maybe i can use a carpet runner full width? Seems very odd that ca would have the stringer the same material as stairs, this is not the norm in my area? Cheers.
  23. This might sound like a stupid question, but is there no way of making the stringer a material other than the risers?
  24. Thanks Alaskan Son, great work around. After the roof is set then I turn off auto roofs and change roof structure back to normal? So would I have to set sheathing and framing to .001? But as you said it is a challenge to calculate distance off plate especially if you have multiple roof slopes , not set up for using plated roof trusses at all in my opinion.
