  1. Hello Perry, I heard about this a couple of months ago and asked how it was different from the present - fill with transparent check box checked and was told no, it's completely different. From your description above it's the same tool.....Are you guys messing with me?
  2. I don't have X7 yet so I can't open it but I can tell you how to manually fix it if you don't know.
  3. Larry, Also check the room label name on the general tab that I didn't see in your video. If you had checked "porch" or "garage" for room name it would convert it to a cement floor.
  4. Yes, don't rotate it. If nothing else (trust me, there used to be something else(s)), it confuses me when I flip a plan never mind rotate it. You get used to working on a plan with everything in a known and familiar spot.
  5. Do you use a stemwall in Vista or is it a monolithic slab with just a little haunch like CA shows in your first video above?
  6. Darn internets..........always foiling a good scam.
  7. Todd, I do these types of foundations all of the time. What specific questions do you have to achieve something you're not getting? Do you want the top of all foundation to be the same height (like attached pic) and also the same footing height?
  8. I agree. They only wanted a screened porch removed so I just took it off and did the elevations over again. Back in the early versions of the program you really couldn't bring it forward even 1 version so we had to redraw it. In these later versions of CA I've taken plans forward 3 even 4 versions with not many complications.
  9. I just received a call from a builder that I designed a few dozen homes for in the early ought's. They wanted changes to a plan I drew in 2005 in version 9.5. I couldn't bring it forward and work on it in X6 if I didn't have a few of the versions between. I get one of these call about once or twice a year as I've used CA since 1997 and version 4.
  10. Do you mean elevations? I put all of my text / notes on cross sections and my elevations I leave completely clean with no notes or elevation data etc. I always looked at it as the elevations were for visual representation and the cross sections were for construction. I also do a cross section of each different type of roof condition while quite a few others I notice will only do one or two general cross sections and put the rest of the info on the elevations. To each his own......
  11. Have you ever seen an accident up ahead off the side of the road and you can tell that it is minor and they've got it under control? Then you drive on by without so much as a sideways glance....... Now most people would rubberneck doing their best owl impression while driving by... I treat these ML posts as the former not later.......Unfortunately for me I did in fact glance over ever so briefly.
  12. Try BC Calc. It is a free program designed for Boise Cascade EWP products but it will also do solid sawn products so you can do your SPF or SP or Douglas Fir or Hem Fir framing materials as well.
  13. Bryce, He said "temporary dimensions". I haven't found a way to change it.....
  14. Overlook, Start by trying to find one of the CA users that is local or at the very least in your geographic area. They build homes completely different in Florida than they do in Massachusetts (or Ohio). It is far easier to start with someone local with knowledge of your areas construction techniques rather than someone who doesn't know your local codes or construction techniques. You'll save yourself a ton of headaches.
  15. Isn't this the same as the checkbox to make it "transparent pattern fill" that we've had for quite awhile?
  16. It's called the "truncated text phenomonon".......It's been going on for years. X3 and X4 were notorious for it. I haven't ran across it yet in X6 and have yet to try X7.
  17. I think (don't know for sure) that engineers refer to the braced side number first........... See this link for example..... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/2983-column-load-chart/
  18. I thought I took an inordinate amount of time designing versus finishing the construction documents after the final sign off from the customer. I thought it just didn't come to me quickly but maybe I am ...........average after all...
  19. I moved the rear gable over a little to line up with the windows. I also added a cricket in the front. I imagine it has to have one...... brown.zip
  20. Rich's diagram shows a *S* shape rather than a *W*... Might want to switch to a *W* shape Rich. The flanges are not as thick so they would be easier to punch / shoot the ledger.
  21. You should do it in one section. In order to show the handrail instead of the balusters / newels you would have to turn them off and then use a cad box with solid fill.
  22. Phyllis, Change those two setting and snap it over the wall and let go of the mouse. The top section should snap between the wall and look like my attached pictures.
