  1. Phyliss, To fix the offset problem you're halfway there. Check winders then go to the tab - style>winder> and change maximum contraction to 5". Then stretch the stairway to the outside of the wall. As for the two stairways on one floor in plan view I used to use a cad block but now just show the stairway going from the floor as shown to the next upper floor. The basement stairs will be on the foundation plan then.
  2. I haven't done anything lately. In version 10 I did a handful of multi-unit buildings. To make the symbols I copied the plan and deleted all of the interior. I'm sure it is much better 6 versions later but back in 2005 +/- I still get the shakes and hot flashes thinking back about that project.
  3. After working in the EWP department drawing joist layouts and sizing beams for 4 years my opinion of this is that if a designer alters one dimension without actually moving that item it is only the beginning of more confusion on the plan. I can't tell you how many plans I worked on when I couldn't even get the exterior walls to close because they changed a dimension and forgot to change the corresponding opposite dimension. I think if you want to change the dimension move the item. Using electronic whiteout is a no no......
  4. Thanks Doug!! I checked out the usage of memory and found that mozilla uses more than twice as much memory as the floor plan only view in CA. It runs better now. I will make a point of only having CA open on the laptop.
  5. MIchael, it is a small plan (2,400 sq. ft). I don't even have any text, cross sections, elevations or framing done on it. Barton, good suggestion! I'll transfer it to my desktop and see if it is the plan. I'm almost certain it is not though....... Lew, the laptop worked fine for X4 and X5. I don't know if I do enough work on it to upgrade at the moment. I may wait until windows 9?
  6. Hello All, I have started using X6 on my older (2 years) laptop. The specs are: Intel Core i5-2450m @ 2.5 ghz 8 gb RAM Intel HD Graphics 3000 (which I downloaded the latest driver) I suspect it is the onboard graphics rather than a card correct? I have undo's set to 5, turned off "automatically build floors and ceilings", have only the floor plan window open etc. yet every time I touch something (a window for example in the attached picture) a series of boxes show up stating it is rebuilding floors etc........and it will take about 5-10 seconds or longer to run through all of the boxes. Is there hope for this machine or is it the graphics? Thanks.
  7. Thanks Larry for checking! I don't work by the hour so it doesn't matter but there are people I would imagine who would be concerned if a customer has access to time spent on the drawing as a whole or for a particular change.
  8. Hello All, Does anyone have the client viewer on their computer? Do you know if you are able to see the time log in a file opened in the client viewer? Thanks.
  9. Transform / Replicate tool..........it sounds like it is similar to VW offset. Concentric or multiple copy in CA is a few more steps than the transform / replicate. It works with 2d & 3d objects.
  10. If you use a pony wall on the 1st floor then you won't have a dedicated foundation plan. It is better to put the foundation on the foundation level.
  11. Hello Amy, If you need any help I'm just up the road from you and I have version 9.0 all the way to X6 on various computers. Well, except X2. I skipped over that one.
  12. Ross, See attached file. Check out the settings on both floors. Foundation test.plan
  13. Change the dimension in the movable size box. See attached.
