That sounds like flawed logic. When do you figure "the deal is made"?? Isn't that akin to the old bait and switch?? Oh well...I won't argue with you. As soon as I saw it posted though I gave the info to a friend of mine who has mentioned wanting to buy Chief several times over the past few years but likely couldn't afford it at full price. I would be a little upset if he told the OP he'd take it just to have the OP say "someone told me I should be asking more so it's this much instead." I would also feel bad for having wasted someone's time on a Sunday for no reason. That's just me though.

Just my 2 cents

Mike - gotta agree with you 100%

Once the offer is made - it shouldn't be flexible simply because a better price offer comes along

Far as I'm concerned, that is greed alone speaking without any morals

I have seen this happen time after time - especially when disasters happen

So, IMO, his stated offer should stand

Sorry Lew if I don't agree with you on this one

Nicinus:

yep, the buyer has no obligation to inform a seller the price is too low

I have a friend who buys pipe collections for resale - usually from widows

he and his partner will offer more than the asking price to be fair

as long as they can make 50% which is the standard most dealers expect to get

I have seen the American Pickers show where they get much more than they expect

and they will share the excess with the seller

If I ever bought an item at a yard sale for $1 and sold it for thousands I would

share with the seller - it's just the right thing to do

but the gist of this thread is that a seller can change their mind at any point

prior to accepting the money

On Pawn Stars I saw a guy sell a one-of-a-kind guitar for $35,000

he had been asking $50,000

they shook hands, yet by the time they brought out the cash he reconsidered

and decided not so sell

its the buyers product until money changes hands
