We recently started using CAx7 to design and build all of our jobs requiring plans but often run into situations needing the stamp of an engineer. We need to find an engineer that would be able to use the work we've put into producing the design and layout files to produce their set and collaborate with us in the process. Our typical requirements are for small home additions and random structural approvals as required by the building department. If anyone is interested, or knows someone who is, please let me know. I am also fairly new to CAx7 (background is Revit/ACAD/Rhino) so there may be a bit of a learning curve on the front end as I get over my "bad habits".

So you know, I really dont think many engineers use CA, so its doubtful you'll find someone from this forum that can integrate the way you're seeking.  Your best bet is to export into dwg and then import their work...which will increase your options.

I export my plan and elevation views as AutoCAD dwg file formatted views to then share with Structural Engineers, works for me for decades.

I know an engineer in Anaheim you can use, he just needs full scale prints, and does no drawing, just for markups. P.m. me if you want his number

I work with quite a few engineers here in the OC. In Orange, Santa Ana and Lake Forest.

Like David said, I send them my DWGs and PDFs and let them do their thing.

PM me if you like or email me at andytardif@gmail.com 714-412-0371

Thanks for all the feedback. I suppose for now we'll have to continue to send .dwg or deliver prints. On a fairly similar note has any used Chief to Collaborate at all? Is it useful for this type of trade to trade communication the way Revit is? Thanks again.

I'm a licensed PE and in the process of switching over to CA. I'm also in the process of seeing a lot of work come in the door. I'm definitely interested in collaborating but I'm in Reno so you guys would have to do any site work for me. I can do inspections via video though so it could work out. Give me a shout.

One of the engineers I use on the Monterey peninsula uses CA but I find that minimally helpful. Most engineers are just using the plan and section views. I can export dwg for that easily enough.

We have been a design-build contractor for over 40 years. Our engineer of 25 years is retiring and we are seeking a replacement. Normally, we create our own structural drawings and submit them to our engineer for corrections and calculations. We would like to interview individuals who have an interest in collaborating in this fashion. Please email morris@careybros.com.

We have owned a single family home for over 20 years and now are in need to legalize it from a Single Family Home to 2 units. We need to submit plans with elevation info to legalize. The home is in Oakland, CA. If you are in my area please contact me. Thank you.

I purchased Chief Architect Premier X7 to design our own house and have no need for it anymore.  Looking to sell my lifetime software license for $995 to recoup some of the original purchase cost ($2,695).  Software can be downloaded directly from the Chief Architect website (digital locker) after license transfer agreement is recorded (I will arrange and pay $100 transfer fee).

Great option if you want full design functionality of this great program, but don't want to pay full price for latest version to get all the latest options.

      Hi,

We are a modular company, and we are looking to make Chief our primary software. We draw the plans in-house and then send them to an engineer to draw the structural pages, call out fastening, and stamp them. We are modular; however, we are somewhat custom and ship all over the country. Therefore, each plan set needs to be engineered. If you know of any engineers that work with Chief and are licensed throughout the country, we would love to chat!

      Thank you!

We are a small interior design firm in northern new new jersey, we rely heavily on Chief for our presentation materials and construction specs. We are working on a large project and need more bandwith in creating 3D renderings, condocs, etc. Also would like someone to set up our defaults and layer sets properly as we have never really done that correctly. Please provide portfolio and rates. If anyone is in the Metro NYC area that would be even better, but willing to try remote if we can trade markups easily. Must have experience in drawing millwork and cabinetry. Must be in X10.
