How to pin elements in place

In other software such as Revit, it is possible to select an object and pin it to avoid accidental moving. This helps to keep working on the other elements in the same layer while a specific element is pinned. In addition you can put your view in two different modes: you can select pinned elements to just see their properties or you can use the mode that makes it impossible to select the pin elements.

However I can't find a similar option in CA. From online search I found out the most you can do, is to create a layer for those elements and control them by locking the layer.

This is not efficient due to the number of back and forth you have to do every time you need to select an element in that later and unlock the whole category. In addition, this makes the rest of the elements in that layer vulnerable to be accidental move while doing an edit on a different element in that layer.

Does anyone has a better solution?

Thank you

Yes, layer locking is the way Chief handles this.  Pinning is unique to Revit I believe.

I think it's been suggested before, but you might make the request under the forum suggestions category.  After all, the squeaky wheel gets the grease!  :)

This is not meant as a slight in any way shape or form but I have not accidentally moved anything in this software in over a decade. I truly think it is difficult to let go of the way another software does something, because when it comes down to it, this software is worlds faster than Revit, so fully embracing its methods are beneficial.
That being said, this may help you:

Additionally, I would encourage new users to switch to contained selection modes

This will help you avoid inadvertently selecting more than what is fully contained within a selection marquee which can help for moving things around.
Also learning hot to perform tool restrictive selection using shift+marquee with a tool active to restrictively select that object type/symbol category while avoiding others
If you can give an example of when you wanted to lock an element, we might have a nice helpful solution for avoiding that condition, such as resizing walls by locking a side to resize about:

Another way to avoid accidently selecting and moving things is to use layer sets to hide all the things you don't need.  Chief's way of using saved plan views is a good way of handling this but I don't know if revit has something similar.  If I want to work on the foundation plan, or the framing plan, or the roof plan, or the kitchen plan, or whatever, I can setup my view to only show the things that are important and then hide all the other stuff that gets in the way.

Here is some more info that might help:
