A dumb question... how do I post plan files?

I'm using x17 and can't for the life of me figure out how to export a zipped file small enough to share in chieftalk. I know there was a tool in older versions where you could export a zipped file directly from a program, but looks like its no longer around. I'd really appreciate a detailed walkthrough or a video to explain it.

Now for an even dumber question- how do you imbed pictures in a post? Yes, I'm an idiot. Thanks for the help!

No worries - we all start from somewhere.

To post a .PLAN file, first make sure that the file is not open in Chief.  This is an easy mistake -- otherwise, the file will show as a 0 KB (no content) file size.

Then, you can create a separate .ZIP compressed file of that file (right click the file in Windows to get that option).  A compressed Zip file will usually get the file small enough to post.  You can drag and drop the file to your post.

For images, you can drag and drop the file directly to your post.  Or, you can CTRL-C (copy).

This presumes you need us to look at something in the building.  Copy it, then strip the copy of all that is not stuctural.  Remove terrain, fixtures, furniture, clean off any weird textures you may have applied, the file is to contain no plants, no people, no nothing but walls, floors, roofs, windows and doors.

Okay, I got that far, but it's still too big to attach. What next?

Just to add, you can remove anything not related to the problem — including windows, doors, and literally anything that doesn't alter the issue you need help with. Any file can be reduced to fit within the size limit.

At the bottom of the window where you compose your post, you should see a paperclip icon with "Drag files here to attach, or choose files..." So find the file and drag it into the window, or click Choose Files and navigate to it that way. Then, once you have attached the picture file, click in the post where you want it to appear, then click on the picture to add it. See below:

Renerabbitt- I did what you suggested, and it looks like it's working. Would appreciate if someone else would try opening the plan through the wetransfer link and let me know if it's working for them.

SC,

Download worked for me...

However, you uploaded the whole Project (.CAPROJ) file.  This is essentially a file that contains all project assets.

This explains the very large file size and why you could not upload to the forum using usual methods.  (I don't think forum members would want to upload a whole project file either, but a single .PLAN model file is okay).

What you want to do is just upload only the .PLAN file (zipped).  The .PLAN file is the building model without all the other stuff.

Here I zipped your .PLAN file, which comes in under 4 MB.  I attached the .zip file for your reference.

Okay, good to know. I had thought I had deleted the additional files, but evidently not. Thank you!

I personally prefer the whole project, often times it gives context or contains something we need depending on what's being groubleshooted. Also for sharing with work colleagues ot progress a set, this is a preferred sharing file formwt
