NCC-1701
'Launch Help' seems to take forever to load (about 20-30 seconds or more). Is it linked to my internet connection?
BenPalmer
I have the same issue: It was discussed here with somewhat of a solution: http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread.php?65859-X6-BUGS-List-Them-Here
NCC-1701
Thanks a million Ben!. After reading the thread, "Run as Administrator" solved the problem. Now runs slick as glass... Not sure why this should be necessary though, this is new hand built computer, CA is the only 'major' program running at present...
BenPalmer
You're welcome...yeah, hope they fix it...I think they mentioned running as administrator may make some things not work...haven't seen anyone complain about problems with it though, so it may be fine. Doug_Park
I think we have a fix in the pipeline. I would reccommend not running as admiistrator though as it breaks other things, like drag and drop from explorer onto Chief.

Dan_Park
The issue is related to User Access Control (UAC) on Windows - An alternate solution to running as administrator is to install into a folder other than the standard program files directory. As Doug stated a fix, we hope will solve this, has been obtained and we are targeting it for the next update. For those that don't know, UAC is a security measure introduced by Microsoft for windows Vista which caused much angst when initially released. It prevents programs without administrative access from writing to a directory where programs are installed. The idea being that programs that are installed don't ever need to change unless you are reinstalling or upgrading. Data that needs to be changed is stored in a different location. In this instance the help program for X6 (assistant.exe) is opening the help database for read and write access. In reality it only needs read access. At any rate we have identified this as one problem for slow opening help files. Another problem is virus scanners. In some cases real time virus protection can cause slowness as well. The primary cause, we believe, is the bug.
BenPalmer
Somewhat related question, but more on Microsoft's side...is there any risk in turning UAC settings to 'never notify'?

Doug_Park
X6 is a major change. I expect to see bits of problems for awhile. Some will likely be hard for us to fix, while others may not so keep letting us know what is annoying to you.
